How to protect an early trip win?

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

I want to win on each part and employ strategies to win on each. I’m sure the skeptics will whine about the ATS being a bad bet
,

I have had trips where a good hit on the ATS has saved an otherwise dismal outing.

Hi Sputnick. Good thread. Good comments from everyone.

Most success from any type of money management will eventually get back to the individual player being able to apply self discipline.
I think the often-discussed envelope system (figuratively or literally) is a good method to assist with a gamer surviving a multi-day/multi-session trip. Which is what I perceived was the original posters objective. However, I think a "trip survival" system should also be tied to ones long-term money-management system. Because IMO they are all related, or should be. Regardless if one plays three times per day or three times per year.

I strongly believe its what we do with the wins as being more important than how we handle the loses. The loses come and the loses go. The wins come and the wins go. The loses (losing envelopes) take care of themselves(they go to -0-), and we dont have any control(they are forever gone/never to return). I lose envelopes all the time. Maybe not down to -0- but down low enough that I cant continue with current wager sizes and progressions from that envelope/ must open another. It still stings, However, it is consoling to know/ see what I have done with the winning envelopes.

Typically I will wait a couple hours or half day prior to opening a new envelope. No matter how many times I lose an envelope it can still sting a little or at least be a slight emotional draw down. Just my personal opinion and approach.

If we manage our wins, and we win BEFORE our envelope goes to -0-, and dont RE-Gamble 100% of the winnings, that is how we get ahead/stay ahead or at least have a fighting chance to have something to show for our investment/time.

BOTTOMLINE: We shouldnt force ourselves to rewin the winnings we already won/that may have been won from previously-won winnings.
In other words: Dont play 100% of winnings back through, ever.

Losing sessions and losing envelopes will occur. Just like the winning sessions and the winning envelopes(that are not capped/ may go for awhile prior to losing)

Bet size-to-Number of bets-to-Buyin, Buyin-to-Trip Bankroll, Trip Bankroll-to-Overall Bankroll. Never take Overall Bankroll on trips--thats what the Trip Bankroll is for......

For Example: if we are frequently having to end our days' sessions at noon due to hitting our loss limits then maybe we are wagering too aggressively, too large of wagers, too small of wagers, not enough envelopes, Too long of trip ...etc. We need to tweak the above ratios/ only we can do it.

This along with having an envelope system and per diem loss limit will help with getting to day three on a 3-day trip.

more later,

Continued Success To All,
All the best,
Tgold

I love the envelope method. However, there have been times when nothing has gone good and I want to stay up and play video poker with what's left of the envelope till its gone or I win something big.

On evenings when Video Poker even sucks and the envelope is empty. I go over to the cashier window, refill the envelope and go to bed. Later that month sometime, I get the invoice from the casino and it reminds me not to have too many of those "play, play play, come what may" days.

Then I spend some time thinking about being rational-get in, get up, get gone. Still, I greatly value those evenings at the video poker bar, playing $1 or $5 and drinking Single Barrel Jack cause I can sleep in the next day.

Lots of interesting comments on this thread. Thinking back 20 years ago when we had similar threads on now defunct forums, one of the most popular answers was to "get a check for my winnings from the casino cage, then mail it home." I'm not sure if these days no one trusts the post office anymore, if no one trusts casinos to be in business long enough for them to get home and cash the check before they go bankrupt, or if they just want to hang on to the cash "just in case" they need it.

Heavy,
All points for not wanting a check or trusting our mail services for me.
Cash is king for me. When I was a young man, an older well-off family friend always had a huge wad of folding money in his front pocket. He would tell
me and my brothers, "boys, if you got this knot in your pocket, you can get anything you want in life" Also, I like the anonymity of cash. Thanks for
wisdom that everyone is willing to share. Much appreciated!
