Buy Silver Now....

Believe it or not, craps is not the only game in the casino. Savvy players have a back-up plan for when their craps game is off. If Heavy isn't winning at Craps you're likely to find him playing Baccarat, Blackjack, or even Roulette. If the table games aren't working out he may even take a cigar break in the high limit slot area for a little hit-and-run action. But just like craps - you have to plan your play and play your plan. If you have a question on slots, video poker, carnival games or any table games other than craps, this is the place to post. Let's hear about the games you play when you're not playing craps! What's your game? What's your strategy? How's that working out for you? Inquiring minds want to know!

Jamie, there is a premium you pay when purchasing metals at a coin dealer. The question is can you overcome it with your system. Does your system entail purchasing silver through a coin dealer, etf or futures market.

It's also good to have Silver on hand when the werewolf apocolypse begins. Silver is a precious metal that is used in a lot of manufacturing processes making it sensitive to supply/demand. Silver's troy ounce spot price has been trending downward for the last five years or so from a peak of about $30/ ounce.

You have to keep mind that the metals market is highly speculative. I have years of knowledge of the gold market and I have to tell you that it is totally controlled. The moment you see people hyping gold, they are ready to take a profit. What they want you to do is buy while they are selling and taking profits. Drive the price down and they buy at the bottom. You get screwed. I won't comment on silver, but can draw your own conclusions. The diamond market is even worse. Diamonds are perhaps the single worst investment you can make.

Um, $1000 face of quarters = 4000 quarters :)

On silver.com, they are SELLING ROLLS of silver quarters at $127, not individual pieces. Good luck getting that price from them to BUY.

Jaime, do the math. It's a pretty simple calculation :)

Also, go back and check the silver.com website. It's pretty clear that they are selling rolls of washington quarters at $127. A roll of quarters if $10 face value, or 40 quarters. Works out to $3.175 per quarter, NOT $50 or $127.

And again, that is what they are selling them for. Their price to buy them will be much lower, obviously. Probably by 50% or so.

The high was $50. I held before the peak and on the long slide down.

msthis1, $1.00 of pre 1965 silver coinage (excluding silver dollars) has .715 ounces of silver in it. That is the commonly accepted number to account for the wear on each coin from circulation. That makes each dollar worth 11.78 at today's prices. Multiply by $1000 and you are holding a bag worth $11,783.20

I haven't been a buyer in a while, but about two years ago there was a run on so-called "junk silver" and the premiums on circulated pre-65 coins was rather high. Typically there is a discount, but the market decided otherwise. I haven't checked prices recently, but I would anticipate that junk silver returned to a normal sale price with a slight discount to the spot price.

If anybody needs resources for buying/selling silver and/or other precious metals with lower premiums, shoot me a PM. I know of a few places where individuals trade/buy/sell outside of the normal channels.

Yes: It is 4000 quarters, $1000 face value and I understand the silver market. I've been in it for 40 years. Just decided to unload a small part to use for other endeavors.

I figured as much. Most people don't have $1k face lying around unless they know what they are doing.

Thanks for the correction, caligula. My recall isn't as good as it used to be. I wanted to post a chart with Silver's spot price in a timeline, but I didn't get around to it. Precious metals don't pay interest and dont't pay dividends, so the goal is to buy low/sell high (as with most investments). Collecting coins can be fun, but it is important for people to do their homework before making a purchase. Personally, I like keeping Silver Eagles.

Didn't one of the Binion's have a underground vault somewhere in the desert that they kept their coins and bullion in?
