Managing Free Odds

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Managing Free Odds

Post by heavy » Mon Oct 24, 2011 1:07 pm

Ah, the Free Odds bet - one of those bets that is so good that the casino doesn't even display it on the layout. You just have to know about it. But how much Free Odds is enough? How much is too much? Is there such a thing as too much? Yeah, I think I have the answer to that but I'd like to hear your opinions before we go too far down the trail.

In my neck of the woods - as well as in much of Mississippi - the 100X Free Odds bet is the norm. We even had one Mississippi casino with unlimited free odds up to table max at one time. It was absolutly crazy. Sometimes they're run it as a $3 minimum bet with a $500 table max, so players would come in and PUT all the numbers for $3 with $500 odds and just wait for someone to catch a hand. Great if you had the bankroll for it. Not so great if you didn't. Volatility is your friend when it goes the right way - and not your friend when it goes the wrong way.

I like to use a Free Odds progression on the 100X games - starting with single odds and running a Fibo type progression. Seems to work pretty well.

Anyway, back to you. Faced with a 100X odds game do you stick with your old standard 2x odds, 3.4.5x odds, 10x odds - or do you go for the full boat? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'll admit to using huge odds as get back bets from time to time. Although I'm much worse about laying big odds than taking them.

I don't recall the last time I made a Come bet! My Pass odds begin usually at 1.5 to 2.5x the line amount. If the roll progresses, I'll press it gradually with profits from Place or Buy bets.

In joliet one place had 500x until they got whacked. The other place had 100x for years and they got whacked. Now I think both are 10x. Oh well.

That's got to be one heck of a roll before I'll get above 25x. I haven't made a Come bet in a very long time, or a Put bet for that matter.

Do not the ODDS have to be at least 4X to pay better than placing the same amount$$ at risk ?

The people I know who use "FREE ODDS" say they run a progressive escalation of ODDS as a method of increasing the MONEY AT RISK taken out of winnings without having to "THINK" and as a way to help the dealers run a SMOOTH GAME. That may apply far more to a shooter than another player.

Many times other players actually take more off a JAM UP ROLL than the shooter for reason of the shooter not managing his bets as well as the other players.

Just my mussings
