Favourite 68 Strategy

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Favourite 68 Strategy

Post by chuckmek » Mon Jan 06, 2014 10:43 am

Just wondering if anyone would like to share their favorite Place 68 strategies. I've just started trying out different progressions/regressions and wondering what the veterans of the site like to play (if at all).
Just to make these equitable...say a win / loss of $200 win / $300 loss...

I prefer an early steep regression. Like most of the guys around here, I've tried a lot of them. The one I'm playing these days looks like this:

$30 six and eight
First hit - collect $35 and regress to $18 each - $1 sevens exposure
Second hit - collect $21 - same bet - $20 profit in the rack
Third hit - drop $3 on top of the pay off and press the number that rolled to $42 - $17 profit in the rack
Fourth hit on the $42 bet - pays $50 for $1 - If the $18 number rolls - same bet - lock up $21

At this point I continue to collect $50 for $1 on the $42 number until the sister hits again, at which point I press it to $42

Once BOTH numbers are at the $42 level I'll take one more hit, then press the next one that rolls to $90

You rarely get to this level but on those occasions I do, once I hit $90 I press my bet by $30 on every hit until it reaches $180. IF I hit $180 the next step is to drop $30 on top of the $210 pay off and press that number to $420. Then you collect $500 for $10 on every hit.

I hope you get to that level soon and often.

Hummm.. I gotta try this. I just looked at this strategy compared to our live rolls from the last Cherokee trip and this strategy would have won $671 WITHOUT any pressing. Just $30 6&8, regress after one hit to $18 6&8 and then take all the $21 hits. That's no PL bet, nothing working on the CO. Here's our rolls and how the payout adds up.

I've been playing with a lay across strategy at home and I also looked at that against these rolls. Not pretty. Letting the lays work on the CO then stay up indefinitely lost -$1475. Letting the lays work on the CO and then down if two numbers got picked lost -557.

Start at $12 each
First hit go to $18 each
Second hit drop $3 go to $30 each
Third hit drop $1 and go to $48 each
Fourth hit collect $104 and down from the number hit and split remaining $48 to $24 each and collect each hit after that.

Need four combined 6/8 hits or your out as much as $26 each try.

Adjust your starting wager according to your loss tolerance and go from there.

These are great. The one line I keep hearing from Heavy is "Take me down" throughout this forum.

Thinking you want to leave with a $200 profit before losing $300, how does this stack up:

$30 on each 6 & 8 -> $60 at risk
Hit #1 regress to $18 on each -> $1 at risk with 36 working
Hit #2 progress to $24 on each -> $8 Profit + $48 Working
Hit #3 progress to $30 on each -> $24 Profit + $60 Working
Hit #4 Either down or repeat the cycle depending on your gut or the shooter.
If Down then $59 Profit + the $60 down off the table = $119 on that shooter. The biggest risk is the initial $60...
Otherwise every cycle can give a profit of $59 unless the 7 shows which eliminates what you have on the table....Take me down...

I ran the rolls in Freak's post flat betting the 6 and 8 at $30 each and the win was $490. The same rolls working on all come outs ended with a win of $495. Based on all the testing done on another board about a year ago, I still think flat betting a fixed percentage of one's bankroll is a viable method for DIs.

Chuckmek: I almost like you last strat. Difference is press only the number that hit. Amazing how many times the sister is a wall flower so no reason to romance her.
Regress from $30 each to $18 each, then press only what hits one unit.

Interesting to see that flat betting $30 each wins $490 and a 1-hit at $30 regress to $18each wins $671 on the same rolls. I think some of my pay-out math might be slightly off above, but I think these are fairly indicative of our typical live rolls. I went back and counted the winning hits. Assuming that my next session will be similar to this one, can anyone figure the best regress/press strategy to maximize a session based on the parameters of this session? To wit:

15 hands - no hits on 6 or 8
14 hands - 1 hit on 6 or 8
11 hands - 2 hits on 6 or 8
7 hands - 3 hits on 6 or 8
1 hand - 4 hits on 6 or 8
2 hands - 5 hits on 6 or 8
2 hands - 6 hits on 6 or 8
2 hands - 7 hits on 6 or 8
1 hand - 8 hits on 6 or 8
1 hand - 12 hits on 6 or 8

Thinking out loud here, it seems to me a key stat is that there are nearly as many 1 hits as no hits. Let's say I know I want to play 56 hands, $60 bet per hand. For the sake of clean math make the bankroll 56x$60 or $3360. And let's say the rolls happen in order from worst to best. So in 56 hands there were 15 no-hits (27%) and 14 one-hits (25%). So without a regression I will lose 52% of my bankroll in the first two rolls of the hands (29x$60 = $1740). I will win $490 on the one-hits so the net loss is $1250. That's 37% of my session bankroll. If I do the regression play, I lose the same $900 on the 15 no-hit hands, but only lose -$14 on the one hit hands (14x$35wins - 14x$36losses). With regression I only lose 27% of my bankroll for all of the no-hit to one-hit hands. The seems really key to survival since we all know the order these hand come will cause volatility.

Second key stat is that with the regression play, the second hit also puts me in a better position than the flat bet play. There were 11 two-hit hands which earned another $220. The flat bet would only add $110 at this point. The flat bet strategy is down -$1140 at this point and the regression bet strategy is down only -$694.

The 3-hit hands earn another $287 for the regression player.

The 4 hit hand earns $62 for the regression player.

The 5 hit hands earn $166 for the regression player.

The 6 hit hands earn $208 for the regression player.

At this point the regression player is up $29.

The 7, 8 and 12-hit hands add $626. Total profit $655.

So, looking back at some live casino stats it looks like this is a good play that will keep me about even on average hands with a mix of PSOs to 6-hits, and put me in a position to make a profit on those 4 really nice hands. And, should I ever get my DI skills working well enough to yield these hands in best to worst order, I can use $60 to earn $1569 in 28 good hands and just skip the 29 bad hands. ;-)

OK, more thinking on this. I looked at the bankroll fluctuation throughout the session. I could have survived on a $200 bankroll. At hand three I'm down -$121. But at hand 6 I'm back up to +$61. At roll 15 I hit +$266, then go to a max low of -$154 at hand #30. At hand 45 I have over $400 in profit. Peaks over $700 near then end then shrinks to mid $600 at the end.

I used this strategy at home night before last and turned $600 into $900 in about 30 minutes. I started adding in other bets like PL, craps checks and lost back to $700 in the next 30 minutes. I played it again last night and lost from $600 to $450 in about an hour. Broke discipline and put up a $150 6&8. Got a hit, regressed and had a nice hand. I ended with $1000. Lucky on that last roll. Still I like this strategy a lot. It works on our kitchen-table home play and also fares well on our live casino roll recorded stats from 2013. We're going to Cherokee this weekend and I'll try it there and report the results.

I just had another revelation. I could have made $1060 on these same rolls betting only the 6&8. How? One hit and down. The 15 rolls of no hits loses $900. The 41 hands of one or more hits wins $1960. This would also seem to follow the probability of the game in that there are 10 ways to roll a 6&8 (combined) and 6 ways to roll a 7. Therefore, statistically I would expect to win this wager more times than I lose it. The loss costs me $60 and the win earns me $35. If I win 10 times I make $350. If I lose 6 times I lose $360. Thus a negative expectation game. But all I need to win is to get the 6 or 8 to come up just slightly more often due to my DI, or just be lucky in my betting on this in the random sequence of the day. Put up a $60 bet and if no wins in 3-4 rolls take it down. What I really like is that this has far less downside risk versus an inside or across strategy. One PSO when I'm across and I'm in a big hole. With this strategy I just need a 4-hit hand to recover from a PSO. Or three 2-hit hands. Or two 3-hit hands. Or a 2-hit hand and down.

The BIG question is - will I have the discipline to watch a bunch of 4s, 5s, 9s, and 10s go by while I wait for one 6 or 8? ;)

Or watch a bunch of 6&8s hit when you are playing a one hit and down strategy ;)

This reminds me of a live session I did with some students at one of the first Biloxi seminars. We were playing at the old Grand in Gulfport and I'd told the students not to be anything but a table minimum six and eight on the randies. Well, Randy caught a hand. The poor students watched as my six and eight progression kicked in. Soon I had something $180 on the eight, $90 on the six, 100 on the nine, $250 on the four, etc. Meanwhile, my students were being good campers and sticking with their $6 sixes and eights. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

I applied Heavy's $30 6&8 regress to $18" on another book of live casino rolls and was disappointed to see a loss of -$525. Then I noticed that there were a lot of Co 6&8s and few CO 7s. So I recalculated with everything working on the CO. If I get whacked on the CO I don't place again until a point is established. That yielded a net win of $157. It also put me up by +$360 at hand # 10 in the session. I posted the hands and the win values for each way below. The first number is the amount won or lost if OFF on the CO. The second number is the amount won or lost if ON on the CO. Next numbers are the hand. Interesting to see that a small change can completely turn your strategy around on a session.

Hi freak - How about a dangerous progression on that set of rolls like:
$6 each.
Lose go to $12 each,
Lose again go to $36 each, L
Lose again go to $96 each...
Lose on $96 or a win goes back to $6 each.
Looks like not too many times you go 7 out multiple times in a row.
I don't know...I think it may be a bit risky to usually play that way...chasing losses...

I finally had a moment to run Freak’s in-casino roll stats through the old Veg-a-Matic slicer-and-dicer to see how the MP $204-Across equal-pay, two-hit Regression w/Passive-Aggressive Pressing would have performed.

Here are the results:

9 - 7out…-$204

3 - 11 - 6 - 9 - 7out…-$155

8 - 8P - 9 - 4 - 9P - 4 - 7out…+$63

8 - 10 - 6 - 5 - 9 - 4 - 9 - 6 - 6 - 8P - 9 - 8 - 6 - 3 - 11 - 2 - 7out…+$140

7 - 3 - 6 - 6P - 7 - 7 - 8 - 7out…-$155

5 - 6 - 5P - 8 - 4 - 6 - 8P - 2 - 7 - 8 - 7out…+$70

9 - 6 - 10 - 6 - 5 - 7out…+$71

7 - 9 - 8 - 7out…-$155

12 - 12 - 11 - 9 - 10 - 6 - 6 - 8 - 3 - 7out…+$70

4 - 8 - 6 - 9 - 5 - 2 - 7out…+$72

8 - 6 - 11 - 6 - 6 - 7out…+$62

8 - 2 - 9 - 7out…-$155

7 - 7 - 8 - 6 - 10 - 8P - 8 - 8P - 7 - 4 - 6 - 9 - 10 - 8 - 7out…+$111

5 - 5P - 5 - 6 - 8 - 7out…+$62

MP-Help me out. What is $204 across look like? Are you playing the pass line also? $30 on all numbers? I'm confused.

Hi DicePops,

The Mad Professor’s $204-Across equal-payout two-hit Regression w/Passive-Aggressive Pressing is set up as follows:.

Initial Bet:

~Wager $25 each on the Buy-4 and Buy-10......$35 each on the Place-5 and Place-9......$42 each on the Place-6 and Place-8. That equals $204-Across.

~Any paying-hit on any one of those six box-numbers kicks off the same $49 payout.

~My approach calls for collecting two (2) paying hits at that bet-level, and then regressing everything down to $44-Inside.

~From there, we immediately employ Passive/Aggressive pressing as follows:

~For the 6 or 8 the press-schedule looks like this:

$12......$18......$30.....$42.....$60.....$90.....$120....
$150....$180.....$240.....$300....$420.....$600
.....$900....$1200, etc.

~For the 5 or 9 the press-schedule looks like this:

$10....$15.....$25.....$35.....$50.....$75.....$100....$125.....
$150....$200....$250.....$350.....$500....
$750....$1000, etc.

It’s also important to point out once again that this is NOT for when I am shooting (nor for when you know what the specific shooter's highest-advantage numbers are); but rather it’s an attempt to formulate a “one-size-NEARLY-fits-all” D-I betting-approach for when you walk up to a tableful of skilled-shooters, but you don’t know ahead of time what each of those shooter’s specific best-advantage numbers are.

The point I am learning from this is these regression type plays are no good unless you have the bankroll to run through a few early 7s, otherwise you can soon get in a big hole and then may not have the stomach to keep the series going.

But I am starting to like what I read about these in particular with known shooter where you expect on average to be some kind of edge on certain numbers. The key as ever will be to stake sensibly and not be over betting any one throw. Even on Heavy's $30 each on 6&8 I think I would want to be ready to play with a $600 bank.

Exactly. That's what is dawning on me. If I go across for $204 then I lose if I don't get two hits and make the regression. Three of those events and my $600 session bankroll is gone. I just can't afford that. Yeah, it feels good to play across at home and get lucky and turn $600 into $3000 in a few nice hands. But more often than not I find my self reaching for another $600 in chips to start the cycle again. This week we've been practicing with Heavy's $30 6&8 play almost exclusively and I've had several nice wins and only one rebuy. Many sessions I ended about even (+/- 10%). I really like that I only need one hit to break even on a hand (well $-1). In practice it's common to see 3-4 PSOs or near PSOs in a row. When that happens I start backing off to $24 6&8 and regress to $12 each and just try to survive until the next good string of 6 & 8s. (Every time I try to martingale out of a cold streak I sink my battleship fast). What's interesting is that the 6&8s can come in a bunch or stretched out. L had a nice hand last night of 26. It had two 8s and four 6s. I had a 9 roll hand that had three each of the 6&8. Same win, but it can be hard to watch a long hand go by only placing two numbers. But the practice keeps us aware they can come either way. And the 7 always comes. Being on only 2 numbers for the 7out feels a lot better than being across. We head to Cherokee Sunday. We'll look for table conditions conducive to this play.
I wanna see the dust...

Thanks MP!

What bankroll you start with...$1200, $2000?

Do you chart table first? Or is this your "heat-seeker" approach for when you walk up to a tableful of skilled-shooters?
