Interesting Horn Strategy

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Interesting Horn Strategy

Post by Americraps » Mon Apr 06, 2015 12:13 am

We had the family and some friends over for an Easter Feast, and of course, after dinner there was a request to get the craps table working. OK, so the request was by me, but a request is a request.
There were 7 shooters, and I was on stick, so we had a cozy group in my little craps room. Good thing we turned on the fan as it was 70 degrees, and I had a lot of lights on.

Anyway, each shooter started with $200 in chips and $5Bill started off the action with a very long hand, testing out his new set. Most of the players were under betting him, but as the hand went longer, my nephew Steven (Who is the son of my Field Posse betting Brother) started putting more and more chips out. When Steven got the dice to shoot he set the x6 set and bet $25 on the horn. The call was Yo, and I paid him $87, next throw Yo again, I paid him again, and he pressed to $50. Next throw was aces, I paid him $337. That was the end of the horn numbers, but he went on to have a very nice hand, and was building himself a nice win. After a couple more shooters, my cousin in law Jim got the dice and also set them on x6 set .

Steven threw out a $100 horn, and the call was Twelve. I paid him $675. The next toss was a seven, then Steven threw out a $100 chip on the 12. Next toss- 12!!!. Holy cow, I paid him $3000. Next toss was a 7, and he tossed me a $500 chip for the 12. Jim rolled a twelve! Thats a $15,000 payoff.

By this time, he had something like $20K in his rack, starting out with a very pedestrian $200.

I know Heavy works his CO game for good profit, but I still can't believe what I saw today. I keep thinking that there is a lesson here, that there is a betting strategy out there to capitalize on the 30 to 1 payouts, w/o being eaten up alive with the vig.

He was just screwing around, and eventually ended up broke on a series of all or nothing bets, but that doesn't take anything away from the $20K that he made in the 45 minutes we were playing. Comments?

As that Caesar's commercial says . . . luck favors the bold.

Isn't that the key here? He had a great sequence which filled the rack but on average he's going broke.

OK, I have a lot of faith in the crossed 6s set and when on song it can produce me a lot of outside numbers, including the extreme outside. I really like it for playing the ATS. Trouble is, betting those numbers puts you in the high vig area that the casino loves so you much and you are going to have to have one hell of an edge over those numbers just to stand still.

I'm with LS. Losing it all in the end takes EVERYTHING away from the feat and confirms it was not a "strategy," just being in the right place at the right time. Guessing a horn streak correctly is a super-fun ride but it's pure luck as evidenced by the streak of losses at the end.

We once watched a bunch of frat boys walk up to our table we'd been on for over an hour and take away about $5000 in 15 minutes. They hopped the hard 8 about 4 times and it happened to hit every time they bet it. On the last hit they colored up. Bold and lucky yes, but most impressive was they walked away.

Were the frat boys tossing the dice or did someone else have them? Of course, the answer to that doesn't really tell you anything because they could have had a confederate tossing the dice. The frat boy thing could have been an act to cover a hit and run ploy by a dice slider. Just thinking out loud...

Irish- Thats a good point. My guess is, that when it's not funny money, he's not going to toss out a $500 12, but I can see him tossing out a $5 12.

LS and Freak- You guys have a point too, if you don't leave when you are up, you might as well not have won at all.

H- I'm outta there if I can make 4x my buy in. I agree fortune favors the bold as long as they can leave ahead.

The point of the story is that it can be done. You can win big money with a small buyin. All's you gotta do is win a few 30 to 1 shots and leave. Sounds easy doesn't it?

LS- 33 to 1? Thats pretty cool and lot better than our 16.7% vig, although its still 8.4% against you. I wonder if I can convince Mr Americraps to go across the pond! "We'll be saving money, honey"

I haven't done anything about the horn strategy. Right now, I'm setting Hways and betting the 6 & 8. I noticed some pretty bettable horn runs when setting the 2v though.

HA even less than that Americraps with 33/1 on hops for 2 and 12 and 16/1 on the easier 3 and 11 options, the Wizardofodds says the HA is 5.56%
