Craps "Mulligan" and Freak B-day party tournament results

I'm having a craps party for my birthday this weekend and I'm introducing a special rule for this game. We always play tournament style, $5 buy in gets you $500 in chips. Player with the most chips at the end of one hour wins the pot. The special rule is that each player will receive $500 in chips AND a "no seven" token. This token will protect a single bet from the seven. For example, place the five for $100 and put the "No7" token on top. If a 5 rolls you win $140 and you get to keep your token for another play. If you get nervous and want to take it back you can use it on another play. If the seven rolls you lose your No7 token but get to keep your $100 bet. All other placed bets would lose. If you were to use it on a field bet then a non field number would take away your bet but not your token, a field number wins and you keep the token, a seven takes the token but you keep your bet. Depending on how the dice roll, a player might lose this on the first shooter or they could use it multiple times on multiple shooters if they managed to get it off the table before a 7 rolled.
So...if you were given a no7 how would YOU use it to try and win the tournament??

I would bet everything I had (or the table max) on the 4 or 10, with the no-seven token. Let it ride to the max until you lose the token, then revert to normal tournament strategy.
I wouldn't rule out a hardways bet, though. I'd have to play out a few scenarios to see if that could be a better angle.

How about using it on max DP or DC bets removing it each time if bet gets through the come-out stage?

Well, I'm torn between using it for one "all-in" bet like Bobr suggests or an occasional "momentary protection" like LS pointed out. last trip to the casino I got a $35 free cash coupon. I used it on the DP, set a point and then placed across. Once I got a few hits I removed the coupon from the DC. Next roll I hit the point. Perfect timing. It gave me the confidence to go across knowing the damage from a PSO would be minimized and once I was in the clear I removed it to use again in another play. If I use if for a $500 four or ten, there's a good chance it will end in a push. If I use it in a doey-don't come out situation I can almost guarantee a profit of half my bankroll. Decisions, decisions...

I would auction it off to the highest bidder.

I guess I'm not surprised that a community of dice-influencers had little interest in expending brain energy on this question. Personally I find challenges like this interesting and they often get me thinking about other ways to approach the game in the casino...like how to use free play or match play offers. It's refreshing to have a slightly different challenge and that can get me out of a rut as I tend to get stuck on a particular approach for a period of time.
The results at the party this weekend were mixed. Some players never used the No7 token at all. Some saved it until the end and so were only protecting a small bet compared to what they could have done early in the session. I used it the same in every game to get a guaranteed bump of half my bankroll: Half on the PL and half on the DP. Start with the "no7" protection on the DP and move it to the PL after the point was set. Repeat as necessary until a 7-out. I also placed a few bucks on 12. So in each game my first play earned me about 48% of my buy in. The winner of each session was a player who used the no7 on a large placed bet or come bet odds. His timing was always good and he won his big bet before losing the protector to a seven-out. In the last game he hit a 5 with $1400 in odds. That put him way ahead and then he just played small for the most part staying about $1500 ahead the rest of the players for the remainder of the game. Several other players used it on a big bet that returned their original wager to them on a 7-out, but no one else ever got that big protected bet to hit. This was our first party with a hired dealer and a full table of players. It was a fun night.

Heavy would love to belly up to that table of redheads, even if some are more natural than others

OK I'll auction off a spot at the table between two read heads for our next game...
