Place Against vs Lay

I was looking at website http://www.crapspit.org/craps-payout-table/. They have a bet called place against box number, with different payouts than I would expect for a lay. How is a place against different than a lay against?

Looking at it again. Are they just including the vig as part of the payout odds?

These place against or place to lose bets are what we have in the UK.

There is no vig as you would pay in the US as the vig is built in to the reduced payment when compared to true odds, as you have with standard place gets.

I have a thread somewhere we discusses the house edge on these bets and I'd need to find the details again. What I do know is the house edge is smallest on the 6&8 and biggest on the 4 and 10 which is opposite to the best/worst on the U.S. system

Thanks London! I had assumed craps was played basically the same across the world. I was wrong.

Hi again Spunky,

Had a search though my posts and found the data I was looking for:

Just been looking at the odds we get on numbers not to place. Ours is not a commission based system. Instead we get the following odds:

4&10 pays 5/11
5&9 pays 5/8
6&8 pays 4/5

I work out the house edge on these as:

4&10 3.03%
5&9 2.50%
6&8 1.81%
