DF--

I was just browsing through an old blackjack forum at another site and found one of your posts from 2003:

Walter,

It was nice meeting and talking to you and Henry in Tunica. I`m sorry the tables were not more kind to you there. May I ask ,where you played while you were in Tunica?

Dylanfreak
That would be Henry Tamburin and Walter Thomason. How did you happen to meet these gaming celebrities????

Btw, Walter answered that he played at GS.

That was at a gaming event in Tunica and thanks to a couple of complementary tickets, Gail and I were there. I think they wanted Gail there a lot more than me.

I had never played in a casino until August of 2000 because I hated gambling or at least I thought I did. In the late 80s and 90s, Gail would go on vacation to Las Vegas and I would go on vacation to San Francisco. Gail kept pestering me to go to Tunica with her and sometimes I would go , just to eat and she would play while I sat in a hotel lobby reading a book. Gambling just did not appeal to me. In May of 2000, I finally gave in an told her that I would read a book she had by Henry called, The Ten Best bets in a Casino, or something to that effect. The first bet I made in a casino in August of 2000 was at a blackjack table at Grand Casino Tunica.

Walter had just written a Blackjack book that was considered pure trash by some because it was a d`alembert system of play as opposed to a count system. We chatted a couple of times . Henry was one of Walter`s Blackjack buddies and of course I was picking Henry`s brain . At the time the BJ games in Tunica were very good. Henry had a house around Orange Beach, Ala. so that he could play in the Biloxi Market , when he was not in Las Vegas.

I think Walter passed away, but I am not totally sure about that. Henry is still going strong.

The BJ games in Tunica became so bad , at least for a low roller ,red chipper like me, that I gave up on playing BJ at all and just began playing craps, trying to be a shooter , but at the same hating it every time that I made a rightside wager. I finally quit shooting dice and every thing at the craps table has been rosy since.

All this is not to say that folks should never not play BJ or not practice the shooting of dice. I was just a frugal gambler from the start with a $100 starting bankroll so I could not stand many $5 losses, plus I had told Gail before I had ever played at a casino that , "When this hundred dollars is gone, don`t ever ask me to go back to a casino !"

I never saw Walter again after that first meeting , but I have run into Henry a couple of times.

DF-- thanks for the response! Very interesting.

HS Tunica offers nickel blackjack tables at all times now. Same for craps. I know you've moved up to the $10 tables and typically play GS, but if you feel like donating nickels versus dimes, stroll on next door.

But I shall play 5 and 10 dollar craps.
