How do you bet on yourself?
I consider myself a fair shooter, and look to my throws to make most of my wins in the casino. Lately I’ve been using Heavy’s method going $96 across, pressing the first number then using a collect and press on each number individually. This has been working fairly well, however, I wonder if there’s a better strategy? What strategy do you use to bet on your rolls?

While I used to do that in the past I found that there were too many times when I had "dead money" on the board.
Instead of $160 across (single odds) why not pick your three best numbers and just double them up? It's the same risk but better payout for those numbers you more frequently toss.
The ONLY time I bet across is on a random shooter.

Betting across is putting money at risk that you have no edge on.
I have my edge on inside numbers with my primary set. Depending on the table minimum, I start with $110 inside an employ a regression to quickly recoup my original outlay. Then numbers get pressed individually as they hit. The press schedule depends on the number. I do not branch out to 4 and 10 until after the regression and even then depending on the frequency that they are hitting.

Here's my thought on betting across and having money on numbers you have no edge on. Typically my dominant numbers are the four, six, and nine. But on some days on some tables it's the five, eight, and ten. On other days I can't toss a six or eight to save my life. On other days there are simply no fours or tens in my toss books. By betting across to start with I can let the dice decide which numbers to bet on for that hand. So let's say I bet $96 across and the eight rolls. Up a unit. Next the Ten rolls. Buy it for a quarter. Next the five rolls. Same bet. Bring down the four, eight, and nine. Now I have three numbers up that have hit and all three are paid pretty much paid for. Good to go.

Where is the "Like button"? Heavy, I pretty much do exactly what you outlined above in letting the dice choose my numbers and taking down the rest. I am usually up on three numbers after regression on myself. I do tend to "chase" a bit if a different number rolls twice. Then I get on that one as well. I probably don't take down non producing numbers soon enough once there is money on them. I still have lots of things to learn and better discipline is an ongoing lesson at every session for me.

Re: How do you bet on yourself?
About a year into playing craps i changed from 2V to X6s mainly because of the ability to hit any number while keeping the dice on axis. Since i was playing on ATS tables it just seemed logical. About this same time i began to bet more on myself. Often i would toss all the box numbers with few repeaters and without making my point. I think because my toss skills were good enough to avoid the 7 but not consistent enough to produce clearly dominate numbers. Again, it seemed logical to cover all the numbers.
About a year ago i asked a question on here was it possible to have an edge over the 7 without clear dominate numbers. Several agreed but one board member (no longer part of this group) shot the idea down pretty hard.
For some time now i have felt like betting across was alot of exposure and have been working on going bigger inside and picking up the outside with the first few hits. I have also worked on going even numbers if i set an even number. However, now after 5 years my experience is similar to what Heavy alluded to. There are days when i have one or two numbers that are clearly dominate through a whole practice session consisting of a number of hands. It may last for several days. Then the numbers will switch. Long term may show one thing but for a couple of hours or 4 or 5 hands at a live table on any given day i am not positive which numbers it will be. The last live hand i tossed i set the 8 and tossed 10,4,10. Thats $80 bucks and paid for quarters on the 4 and10 vs 0 dollars if i had just bet inside.
As you can guess i am still betting across on myself (except for rare occasions when things are going really bad). Im not advocating it, or saying it is the smartest play but it is how i play. The thing i think i need to improve on is taking down non producers. I often turn bets of when i feel a "shift in the force" but i rarely take them down, especially if they have hit once.

Playing devils advocate why not just do come bets? that way the dice pick your numbers and you have much less $ at risk with some 7-out protection with the come betheavy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:39 am Here's my thought on betting across and having money on numbers you have no edge on.
