I tried the Island View casino yesterday because it was rumored that they reduce their craps tables to $5 before 11 AM. Wellllll, it's true; they were $5, but I'll never go back. LOTS wrong there:...like betting $36 on the five and nine because it pays you $50. You wouldn't bet $13 on the Six and Eight so you could get paid $15, so why should you bet and extra dollar on the Five or Nine to get paid $50. Wait and drop that dollar when the number hits at $35 and get paid $50 for $1. That way you don't LOSE that dollar when the Seven shows - which it will sometimes. It's about money management. Teaching you to bet $36 on it is a dickwad move coming from lazy dealers who don't want to pay $50 for $1. They're trying to save themselves from having to use both hands on a bet move, AND make an extra buck for the house when the ugly number shows. Screw them. Just my opinion but I'm sticking to it.
The table is a trampoline. It might be the bounciest table I've tried and though I'm not real experienced with different casinos, I found it near uncontrollable especially since I couldn't hardly see my dice as the very heavy stickman leaned his belly in immediately after I'd shoot. I requested at least 3x to ask him to pause for a minute so I could watch the dice, but even tossing at the #2 in the Field from SR didn't give me a line of sight past his belly. Oh, he'd gimme the pause a couple times, then "forget" and ease into his habit. That's when I stopped "tipping" with dealer bets. They coulda got a lot more out of me than two sets of four $1 dealer bets on all the hard ways.... less than 20 minutes after I got there I was gone.
There were a couple more "habits" that ticked me off. One of of the dealers was constantly shouting above the ambient noise to be heard by his co-workers, but his conversation was about personal business and gossip. Nuffin to do with the game whatsoever. An annoyance when someone like me has absolutely no interest in his BS workplace gossip and family commute troubles.
Lastly, and the thing that ground my ass the most was the practice of demanding a dollar for the 5/9 as discussed in the quote above. I generally favor a couple other casinos; there, I can start with a $10 5/9 and run a progression that goes 10-24-60 (if I add a dollar)- 140 - 300. Sometimes when I'm betting 66 Inside, I'll run 15 - 35 -75 -150 -300 (not 350; no guts). Neither regular casino that I play demands a dollar for the parlay to $35. I'd never heard of it until I visited IV. Mebbe it was to eliminate cross-talk against their gossip habit; mebbe they were flat lazy, or maybe it was to make money for the house. I'm guessing the first two judging solely on the dealers' conduct.
But since I don't know the game well enough I paid the dollar, thinking, "there's still stuff to learn about Place Bets I didn't know." Then I read the quoted text. F um. If I wasn't convinced before (and I was) that SURELY set me right--and saved me from asking about it on this forum (which I was gonna do until I coincidentally ran into the quoted text).
And to the subject line... what are some other bullshipt dealer moves you've seen?
