Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
The six and eight progression sits at the core of just about every strategy I play. If I play an inside number strategy that includes the 5, 6, 8, and 9 I'll run separate progressionson the six and eight versus the five and nine. The same is true if I'm playing an across strategy. My basic six and eight progression for a $5 game begins with 3 units each on the six and eight.
By-pass the Come Out roll, then wait for the shooter to toss at least one inside number before entering the game.
When the shooter qualifies drop $36 on the table and tell the dealer you want to place the six and eight for $18 each.
The first hit on the six or eight pays you $21. Drop $4 on the table and instruc the dealer to press the six and eight to $30 each.
The second hit will pay you $35. Drop $1 and press the six and eight to $48 each.
The third hit will pay you $56. Drop $4 on top of it and press the six and eight to $78 each.
The fourth hit will pay $91. Instruct the dealer to take your bets down. He will slide $156 across the table to you. Stack it up with the $91 win and you will have a total of $247. That represents a $202 win. Now you have a decision to make. Do you get back in the game? If so, at what level.
You can add your own variants to this play to make is a little more conservative. For example, after the second hit when you collect $35 you could tell the dealer "Same bet" and stay at that level for one more hit - reducing your exposure to the seven somewhat. When I am in conservative mode I till press and take every other bet. If I am in ultra conservative mode then I will make my first bet $30 each on the six and eight. After one hit I regress to $18 each, then run the progression as structured above.
Do you have a variant on the six and eight progression? If so, let's hear it!

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
A few years ago I read this method and then started thinking about ways to take a profit quicker. So I played around with a bunch of similar methods and came up with 2 that work well with my casino and practice rolls.
I call this one heavy 18 6&8-steve3 theory or just the "Steve3" theory.. Instead of $18 on 6&8, you start with $30 each. One hit on either and you press them both to $42 each, another hit and you regress to $12 each. At this point you have a guaranteed profit for the hand. Now you repeat the cycle again pressing from 12 t0 30 to 42 and back to 12. In between the 12 and 30 you do need to put some of your profits back on the table but this seems to work for me.
The next one is going to show profit after the first hit, I call it the "Steve6" theory. Start with $30 on 6&8, one hit and regress to $12 each. Then press to 18, then 30, 42, regress again to $12...

the cut and paste from excel failed miserably.
Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
Yeah, you've discovered one of the bugs I haven't ironed out of the new forum yet - it doesn't recognize the table format in BB. I haven't tried it in html but I suspect that won't work either. Patience my friend. We'll figure it out eventually.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
I have used a similar 6and8 progression strategy which I got over the internet a long time ago. It is a little more conservative than Heavys'. several DI's have watched me use it in a casino. Once i hit it 3 times off of one hand.
Place the 6and 8 for 12. first hit drop 4. and go to 30. Next hit drop 1. and go to 66. After 5 more tosses if I have not hit I come down. However i have played it out also. Both strategies have worked
and both have lost. I am up on the consevative strategy tho. The most you are at risk is 17. on each no. bet.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
I did want to tack an addendum on to my six and eight progression. These days I rarely press in pairs beyond the $30 each level. From that point on I adopt a "back the winning horse" strategy and press only the number that hits. When the $30 six hits it pays $35. I drop $2 and tell the dealer to press the six to $42, while locking up $25. The next hit pays $50 for $1 and I lock that $50 up and "same bet" it. When the six repeats again I press to $60 or $90, depending on what's been happening with my bankroll previously. From $60 I typically press to $90. From $90 I typically press to $140. At $140 I collect $150 and regress back to $30 or $60, again depending on how my bankroll has fared previously.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
Thought I'd bump this thread up top. I get a lot of requests from readers for the six and eight progression. This is the original six and eight progression as posted on the forum in 2011. Of course, prior incarnations of the strategy were on the old forum, going back to 2003.

H-man,
You mentioned at the top of the thread that you also run a 5 & 9 progression, what is it? And have you tempered it as well for "backing the winning horse" ?

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
Yeah, I used to start my five and nine progression at $10 each - press to $15 each on the first hit - then $25 each, $40 each, $75 each, then one hit and regress or down. These days I start out at $15 each. On the first hit I press the one that hits to $35 and lock up $1. From there it pays $50 for $1. Two hits on that number then take it to $75. Two hit and press to $150. One hit and press to $350. Then it's $500 for $10. The number that did not hit first (sister) does not get pressed unless it becomes dominant, in which case I start the same progression. When playing this way I rarely regress, but frequently call my bets off based on observation of table conditions and indicators.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
Yes, that was a change I made a couple of years back that seems to have worked well for me. I recall tossing a 66 number hand down at Binion's once with something like 23 sixes in the mix and no eights. These days, if a bet isn't paying its rent I take it down and put the chips back in the rack.

I used this progression last night at Hollywood Charlestown, and was up $112 in 22 mins! The shooter was a friend of mine, tossed a hand of 22, before the stick change, 7-out.

Yep. I used it one session at Shreveport/Bossier Friday. Up to $78 each on the six and eight for one hit, then regress. Powerful play.

23 sixes! That one would be etched in memory forever. Sweetness. I hope some players had the 6 up to house max on that one.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
I like to 6 & 8 Progression as well the last I used it the table was hot on the six and and warm on the 8. I was on the Victory Casino Cruises
no passline $5 12 high horn and 5 world the shooters would crapout at least twice before setting a point.
I ran the 6 as follow
12 press to 18
18 drop 4 press to 30
30 collect 35
30 drop 1 press to 66
66 collect 77
66 drop 7 press to 150
150 collect 175
150 drop 5 press to 330
330 collect 385
330 press to 420
420 collect 490 once
got the up to 150
This When I roll I was able to be the 6up to 150 and collect once and and the 8 the 330 but never collected. I was also playing the other numbers and making money but was not pressing as much because i have not figure out how to play the 5 and 9 yet.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
I think you have a typo on the "drop 4" move at $18. You drop $3 and either press the number that hit to $42 or press both the six and eight to $30.
The problem with continuing to press is you run into situatinos like you did with the eight - at $330 but never collecting. That's why the original 6&8 progression has a stop-point in there where you either regress your bets and start over OR take them down completely. Let's say you've got $150 on the six and $330 on the eight. That's $480 action plus whatever else you have on the table. At that point if the seven shows you can suck $600 plus out of your action. So once you get to a point like that IMHO it makes sense to say "may my six and eight look like $30 each" and lock up $420 profit. On the next hit you can take the number that hits back up to $60 - or make the six and eight look like $48 each by dropping a dollar. Press and collect every other hit. So what if someone else on the table has their bets pressed up to $1200 and you're back at $30. You have profit in the rack the casino can't lock back up. Just my opinion but that's how I play the six and eight. Fours and tens - different story. I'm headed for table max asap.

Re: Heavy's Six and Eight Progression
I'm using come bets in practice right now at the $10 level. The press schedule for the 6 /8 is a turtle compared to the strategies above, but there is racked profit from the first repeater, and since there's no regression the racked profits get pretty hefty on a long hand.
Hit 1) Come bet travels -inital odds $50,
Hit 2) same bet, I now have $10 profit in the rack. Racked $70
Hit 3) $60 odds, if hit racked $192
Hit 4) $80 odds, if hit you have racked $258
Hit 5) $120 odds if hit you have racked $352
Hit 6) $170 odds, if hit you have racked $526
Hit 7) $230 odds, have racked $732
Hit 8) $300 odds. This is as far as I've gotten in 5 books of wargaming, $1002 racked
Hit 9) $400 odds, $1372 racked
Hit 10) $520 odds $1876 racked
Hit 11) $650 odds $2516 racked
Hit 12) $800 odds $3286 racked
Hit 13) $1000 odds. It takes 13 hits to get to 100x odds. If hit, you have racked $4496. If I ever get to this point, I'll have to raise the come bet, as we are at 100x odds.
The key to this system are the long hands, and no regression. You make a shite-ton of dough on the 20+ roll hands, but to survive between them, you need deep pockets and a conservative press schedule.
