Running a Progression for 7's on the hop for D-Side shooter?

Post by Nicky Lightning » Fri Jul 12, 2013 12:27 pm

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has tried to run a progression for the 7's on the hop when shooting from the don'ts. It seems to me if you were a somewhat skilled shooter this work out well since the 7 is already the easy number to throw randomly.

Hi Nicky,

There was a guy that used to run one of the fringe dice-boards, who used a progressive-bet on the Any-7 wager, almost exclusively when he was shooting. Heavy will recall whom I am talking about (Gerard, IIRC). Unfortunately, outside forces (read: negative expectation and/or that wager's obscenely usurious house-edge) compelled that fellow give up craps a number of years ago.

I still swap e-mails with Gerard from time to time. He's one of my "friends" on facebook as well. Mostly hangs around Patrick's page these days. Good guy.

On the hop sevens progression - been there - done that - ain't going back.

Saw a guy win $35K doing it one night - then lose it all on a hot hand. Once you hit table max running a negative progression and are hopping three-way sevens for $5000 each you know you're screwed.

The greed factor will kick you ass every time. I remember this guy like it was yesterday. He was a Buddy Hackett clone. By the time he'd dumped his $35K win, taken another $20K or so in markers and lost his entire bankroll he was sweating like a pedophile in a baby gherkins cannery.

Yeah, but if that puppy hit there would be smiles all around. I think we all have seen some variation of the play and all have seen it go down in flames. The one I saw was $300 each and he ran out of cash after losing that $900.

Somewhere on Wizard's site, he goes through the hop-7's progression and how it will kick you in the behind. Sure, you might witness that ONE person who got lucky, but for every one of these folks, there are thousands who lose playing this. Martindale be damned !!!

That is very interesting. Almost like your reward is greater the longer you wait!

Hey MP, are these numbers and percentages correct?

You should come over to the UK sometime. It would definitely take you longer to go bust over here :D

Hi Tony,

Yes, 15 rolls without a 7 will occur about 6.5% of the time....and 29 rolls without a 7 will occur about 0.50% of the time.

Do I recommend a Hopping-7's strategy? No, never!

No topic on progressions involving hops is worth checking out.

I'd rather play 0000 roulette (probably coming to the Venetian soon :) ) if I wanted to give the house a continual double digit house edge go at my bankroll.

I have only made 1 hop bet in my life.

Over a year ago the wife and I was alone at a table at bally's in Vegas. She had already made 4 different points when I told the dealer she was going to make all six, I could feel it. The ten was the last point, I hopped the hard 10 for $5 and that is what she rolled.

My hop bet career is most likely over, batting 1000.

She made the ten for the sixth point and then rolled a four number fire bet the next time after the dealer goaded her into making a firebet. We got out of Dodge after that roll.

In the mid 1990's perhaps 1994-1996.......

On the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Louisiana ,there was a heavy machine operator.
He prowled Treasure Chest,Kenner,Louisiana,Harrah's New Orleans
and
the Ms Gulf Coast casinos , mostly on rain out days.
.
His game plan was to toss from the Don't Pass.
Usually wagered $50 on the D P .

He lost a few on Come Out Sevens / Elevens ( not many ).

Seemed to take it in stride, the guy showed no fear.
Set the Point and would lay $120 ,$150 or $200 against the Point
( Box Number Dependent ).
He reset as needed ,usually once,as I recall.
If his point number showed ,he doubled his Don't Pass and Lay
and
gave it a second round.....
.
If there was no decision by roll number 3 or 4,
he passed the dice and waited for the next shooter to produce a decision.
.
As I remember he would color up and cash out after two or three hands.
.
He was a BIG FELLOW and seemed unbothered if others
D I S L I K E D his game plan....

Basically,if the hand went beyond those few rolls/tosses
he passed the dice
and
most of the time
some disgruntled player immediately tossed THE SEVEN OUT .
.
It appeared that he was a frequent and consistent winner.
For the most part he was ALL BUSINESS
and
not interested in making friends.

He eventually stopped playing at the times or places I played.

Guess he just moved on ..............

Over the years , I have observed others try something similar
HOWEVER FACTOR
few have the discipline to keep it ALL BUSINESS .

just me saying
w c

I don't run a seven's progression......but for "fun" I like to hop 7's on the come-out from time to time. I'm very disciplined when it comes to betting so me betting the reds is like a wild night at a titty bar.

Hop 7's buck a piece.....if it hits parlay to $5 each (and $1 any 7 for the dealers)
Hits again....$80 and down.

If my buddy Boris (coal miner) is shooting I'll always parlay on the next hit to $25 each.
That's when it gets very interesting.......and rowdy!

What I don't understand is the reason for the fibo progression. The escalation is ridiculous. Why? Say you got a $10 dp, the point is 9, you lay $15 for a hoped for profit of $20. With a 3 way $1 hop, you have a total profit of $34 if the next roll is a seven. Stay at $1 two more times, before you move to $2@. The chart just shows me excessive greed and risk, going down a road the normal don't player should not go.

I have never thought of it like that but seems about right.

The hop bets are the crack cocaine of craps. When hitting it doesn't get any better.....when not a drain on cash.

Good Luck
