At one of my favorite places to play today I swear I couldn't roll more than 2-3 times the first half dozen times I had the dice in my hands. I prefer the crapless table at this casino - my dice just seem to be better behaved or I hit the "sweet spot" more regularly. I couldn't find that spot today on the other table for sure. Now, the only reason I stayed was after setting the 4 as the point x2 and coming pretty much right back on a 7, I started laying that puppy. Mostly it was just me shooting so I was looking at it as a learning experience, and I lost a little bit of $ because I eventually just went to a doey-don't for testing purposes. The couple of other guys bold enough to try out the table came up with similar results so it's not like I was the only one throwing the 7s but still - criminy! I started to leave a couple of times but there was a guy on the table that kept asking me to stay - obviously a dark sider and I had him back to even from his own dark side shooting so he wanted to make just a little bit. And my dice did switch back the other way eventually. BTW - it was a grip issue because if the 7s weren't double-pitches they were one die off axis - except for the 5/2 I threw using Irish's set (which meant a single pitch). The shooting really wasn't that bad it just seemed like I was REALLY attracting the 7 today for some reason.
Normally I would have just left the table (I agree with the "lose 3 and flee" strategy!) but since I was managing not to lose very much anyway I just powered thru it til I started seeing some numbers coming again. And actually I was having fun. Mostly just me, the dealers and the one other guy that wanted me to throw 7s anyway.
Anyway - it definitely does seem that I was negatively influencing the dice with my x6 and really bringing the 7s (I think all were 6/1 or 3/4, so double pitch or one die off axis). I consider it a good sign that I could diagnose it actually but all the work I've been doing on my practice table lately to get my 1,000 roll book has really helped me with telling what my shots are specifically doing, and that's a pretty important piece to have in my arsenal. And if this is a periodic trend it'll be a good thing anyway with my partner play since my partner just wants to lay the 4 and 10 basically and doesn't have much interest in any other bets on the table.
Anyway - just curious if you guys would have just packed it in (and normally I would have done just that), if you would have tried to tweak your set, or what. I think it was Maddog who told me once that tweaking your shot is a sign of frustration and you should just quit at that point anyway, and it sounds like good advice to me, but I was just wondering what others would have done in my place.
