I am confused. What happens on the machine that indicates 4Q2 mode?

BC-> Is there some form of a basic strategy to follow for VP? Similar to blackjacks Basic Strategy?

Re: VIDEO POKER
The Gamblers Book Club had a favorite book by Linda Boyd on Video Poker - which is really pretty great. It takes on the math that wiz excels at, but makes it more accessible to someone new to the game. I've been playing deuces wild long enough to be in "the long run", and have sessions histories and logs to show that the return is just about spot on to the rated return. Sometimes I lose a bit, sometimes win, but overall it's a line moving upwards. Of course there's always variance, but I don't play at a level that I don't have at least 4 times the top jackpot in my bankroll. That prevents the busto situation for the most part. I also use Bob Dancer's software to drill and learn a strategy before I implement it.
As for the machines having programs - in a regulated district that would be very foolohardy. For example, Nevada Gaming will go into a casino and take a random sample of the chips in a video poker machine. The chips are hard-programmed - you can't change the underlying program "on the fly", much like you can't change an intel processor to a mac - it's in the wiring. You can change settings, such as mimimal buy-ins between customers, but not the overall programming. The penalties for a rogue chip are pretty stiff. If you are Acme 24/7 video poker and girls located at Skanky Street and Shady Avenue, then I guess the risk is worth it. You can always close business and change names tomorrow. If your name is Ceasar's, MGM, Stations, etc. then the profit is not worth the risk. Why risk your gaming license when there's about 5 full pay video poker machines to every 500 slot machines? Plus not all the video poker is full pay - so why even bother to try to rig something that's supposed to pay out? For example, there are 22 quarter full pay machines that play Deuces Wild at Red Rock. At any time, about half of them are full. Of that half, 2/3 are not playing optimal strategy. Why rig these machines when they are already making them money?

Re: VIDEO POKER
Hi Jeff,
There aren't near as many >100%-payback video-poker machines in Vegas as there once was; so you really have to shop around.
Currently, the +100% payback machines in some LV casinos are:
Full-Pay Deuces Wild...100.76%
Double Bonus.....100.17%
Loose Deuces Wild.....100.15%
Double Double Bonus.....100.07%
Downtown Deuces Wild.....100.92%
Aces and Eights.....100.25%
Double Bonus.....100.17%
Double Deuces Wild.....100.07%
Joker Wild.....100.65%
Loose Deuces Wild.....100.15%
As to the Midwest...the best you are going to get is into the low-to-mid 99% range.

Re: VIDEO POKER
Those quoted percentages are for "perfect" play and the number of players that achieve that is VERY small.
A program like WinPoker will tell you what percentage of perfect you achieve.

UNHH!!Pay scales mean little to BC. That is based on the life of the machine, which can be damn short if the box starts paying too much. 9-6 or 10-7 sounds good; but BC prefer a 6-5 that can't stop paying.

Re: VIDEO POKER
Noah is correct. Those payback-percentages are based on optimal play...which very few folks will do.
It's similar to advantage-play dice-influencing where a skilled-shooter has a valid in-casino edge over the house, but chooses to play in such a sub-optimal hunch-betting, trend-following, streak-pursuing way; that his strong positive-expectation advantage is almost entirely surrendered back to the house.
Very few players will bet their validated advantage in such a way that they build sustainable bankroll-doubling and re-doubling profits; instead opting to let their gambling 'instincts' make many of their seat-of-the-pants betting-decisions for them.
Thus leaving them in the unenviable position of HAVING a verifiable in-casino SHOOTING-edge, but because of poor sub-optimal betting habits; not being able to fully exploit their D-I advantage.

Re: VIDEO POKER
UNHH!!BC found that a certain SHV/BC casino has removed all of the playable VP & multi line VP machines and replaced them with those similar to those that the Aria had when they opened.
These will show 3456 of spades with the 9 of hearts when opening most games. This shoots random right in the butt. UNHH!!It also eliminates using the last players play as a reference. UNHH!!The machines are not new; they have been re-manufactured. UNHH!!This makes finding a machine that will pay a LOT more difficult UNHH!!Prior to this change BC had a 9,000 tier point run with a small W-2. UNHH!!BC-41,000 TPs DSW 44,000 TPs UNHH!!This will be unlikely in new summer
