Free Odds Betting

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Free Odds Betting

Post by heavy » Sat Oct 19, 2013 10:59 am

For those of you who may have missed it, the 100X odds game at Casino Royale - the last casino in Vegas to offer 100x Free Odds, is now a thing of the past. Casino Royale quietly reduced its max odds bet to 20x a couple of months back. Considering that the average player rarely bets more than 2x odds, I doubt that the game will be missed by many. Most Vegas games offer 3-4-5X odds, while a few offer 10X and 20X. The best game in downtown Vegas is at Main Street Station, which offers 20X odds. Meanwhile, perennial favorite the Fremont only offers 2x odds. Across the street, Binions has gone from 100x down to 20x and then down to 10x. Yeah, they sweat the money. Out on the Boulder strip, Eastside Cannery offers 10X odds (they used to offer 100X). Jokers Wild also offers 10x odds. Last I heard Sam's Town was still at 20x odds. I generally like most of the Station properties. Seems like odds vary from property to property. Most offer 10x odds. If you have a favorite Vegas property you'd like to mention - along with their odds - feel free to jump in.

In Louisiana and Mississippi, casinos don't seem to fear the free odds bet. Most offer either 20x or 100x odds. Honestly, I can get a much better game in other parts of the country than I can in Vegas - with Albuquerque offering some of the best games in the nation. Of course, their games excel because of the free buy bets offered on the four and ten.

I realize that very few of you actually take max odds on your bets. However, if you find yourself in the tank and needing to make a quick recovery at the tables - a single large free odds bet can often get you there. Most of the big winners I know at craps are fearless when it comes to betting the odds. They think nothing of stacking $100 behind a $5 Line bet in a 20x odds game. Personally, I like playing a fibo progression on the free odds when I bring sufficient bankroll to do it. It's something you might want to war game in WinCraps.

Thoughts - comments? It's interesting to note that 90% of the websites on-line have incorrect information on them when it comes to casinos and odds offered. If I've gotten any of my info wrong - feel free to correct me.

Thanks.

Seems that the 3X, 4X, 5X odds in Vegas has nothing to do with having a good game for the patrons and everything about quick and easy payouts with few mistakes which all favors the casino. Imagine that!

That being said, I would not venture over 5X odds with my current bankroll and level of play but would enjoy having the option of at least 5X on all point numbers when I shoot. Think 20X is not an unreasonable thing to ask for some well bankrolled players.

Guess that is why we all vote with our feet----in large markets anyway!

I like to initially play the point using free odds I am comfortable with (minimum 2x), not quite the max. As I profit from my place bets, I will slowly increase the free odds bet up to the maximum allowed hoping the point will be made. Sometimes the point is made before I get to increase the free odds bet. Is this strategy a sound one?

Yes Bankerdude. That is a good plan. I do that also on days when I am doing well. Works well for me.

I agree. I frequently start out with double odds and feed my free odds bet off place bet payoffs once the place bets are paid for.

Local casino here has been at 10x since they opened, they charge vig on wins only and, get this, for the first year that they had craps tables the Pass Line bet was NOT a contract bet. You could literally play a PL bet, wait for a point to be established and then move your bet to the DP!

Not sure why they stopped that practice (insert sarcasm here).

They claim they "figured out" they were doing something wrong when the craps tables were not as profitable as they should be.....no shit.

When they changed the rule they worded their reasoning just like that. Now, I'm smart enough to know they didn't just throw a game on the casino floor without knowing EXACTLY how to run it so I firmly believe this was an angle to entice people to play the game since it was 100% new to the state at the time table games got legalized here (it was just a lot parlor at first).

What really bothers me is the part of the statement that they weren't "as profitable as they should be". That tells me they were still profitable despite the gaping hole in the rules. That means the players were/are dumb as bricks to somehow not make a fortune at that table. Seriously, that would be the one time you could Martingale them out of business considering you were always playing as a favorite. I wish I would have gotten in on the ground floor of that action.

If a craps pit is consistently holding less than 18%; then I would expect the Table Games Manager's job to be on the bubble until the situation is fixed (unless it's in Detroit, where their prop-o-holic craps pit hold often runs as high as +40%).
