Pittsburgh Johnnie

I just wanted to say that a buddy of mine has been playin the Pittsburgh Johnnie don't pass style for the past few years. He grinds ten hours per day, five days per week, 48 weeks per year and he averages about 15 units per hour in profit. Not a bad grind if ya have the balls and bankroll to play it, hey hey.

Okay, it's been a looooooong time since anybody's mentioned Pittsburgh Johnny's plays. For those of you whose memories don't stretch that far back - if I remember it right we're talking about a negative progression that runs something like this:

1 - 3 - 7 - 15 - 31 - 63 - 127 - 255 - 510

For those of you used to dealing more in dollars than units - in a $10 game you'd just add a zero to the end of those numbers. So at your fifth step you're betting $310 to win net $50. You sort of run up against a wall at the 9th step with a $10,000 max bet table.

Pittsburgh Johnny's whole idea was that after retirement an income of $50 a day wouldn't be a bad thing. Basically that's what he was using this play for - to grind out $50 - then hit the road.

Frankly, I don't own enough underwear to be playing this system all day.

Yep, tonfau told me that he never did any good at craps until he started using Pittsburgh Johnnie's strategy. He also said you must have the bankroll to accommodate the strategy and be willing to accept the huge session loss that WILL come.

tonfau is still going strong , playing Tunica, Pearl River and Biloxi.

What a blast from the past. Yes I did play Pittsburgh Johnnie from 2000 to 2004. And did ok with the systems with a daily win goal of $300.00 per day. But if I was in recovery mode after a hit would play for hours to get some of it back. Ran it on Wincraps for over 500,000 rolls and it was showing a profit of 3 units per hour. Never could get past playing $1 units because as Johnnie said need 10 times one session so your not sweating the money. Need 1013 units per session.

Around 2004 I started playing the 7 Heavy system from the Dont @ the $10 level. Draw down not as bad as Pitt Johnnie. 7 Heavy is 138 units and PJ is 1013.

Will be gald to post system for the guys. It will be later today. It can be played 2 different ways 100 units or 138 units. I like the 138 unit one it requires 38% more capital per session, but returns 55% more profit.

Mad Professor have you talked with Johnnie lately?

Hi Tony,

No, I haven't seen nor heard from Pittsburgh Johnnie for a few years.

He stopped including any Canadian casinos on his play-circuit when they all went non-smoking. I saw him at Seneca Niagara in NY about three or four years back...still smokin' those filterless Camels...still playing that Grand Martingale...and still grinding out about the same level of 3-units/hour win at the $10 table.

However, it appeared that his health was rapidly deteriorating at that point.

One thing you have to think about with Johnnie is that he has a system of play and he stuck with it, and with the hours he spent at the table, he was dedicated to the game.

I`ll tell ya a story about me shooting the dice back in the day and tonfau playing Pittsburgh Johnnie. I think we were at the old Sheraton Casino in Tunica . Tony was playing Pittsburgh Johnnie and I was playing Professor H`s Dont Pass Odds Progression, except when I shot the dice. while shooting , I just played a $5 PL with single odds .

I got the dice and began shooting and I was so focused on shooting that I was oblivious to everything except the dice . I shot and shot and shot , never noticing or realizing that I was making point after point----I wasn`t even thinking about Tony betting the Dont. I guess I was in the zone.

After making my 8th point , just before the dice was pushed to me , out of the corner of my eye I noticed a stack of black and green chips to my left . Tony was making his last Pittsburgh Johnnie wager. As the dice came to me , I switched to the cross sixes and tossed a come out craps. Tony won and I was happy because I was on my way to being The Greatest Craps Shooter in The World.

Pittsburgh Johnnie is heart attack city.
