First Attempt at Modified Regression
After 4 weeks of war gaming MP's $204 Regression at home, I decided to play it at the tables.
A new friend, Coaster from FLA was visiting with friends and gave me a call and we met at Hollywood in Charlestown, Friday morning 830am.
Table had 2 other shooters when we bought in, not sure what Coaster did, I went in for $1000.
I decided to modify the play, with $130 across, $24-6&8, $20-5&9 and buy 4/10 for $20.
Coaster got the dice and started with CO7, and set 5 point, I then pushed the dealer $130 and called "Across, Buying the 4/10 for $20.
I am not going to sugar coat it, my gut was in knots. And I believe it was from not ever having so much on the table at one time.
He tossed 4, and then 9, and I regressed to $44 inside, he tossed 3, and 8 and then 7.
Not anything crazy but for the first time, knew that I had advanced my understanding of the game and from now on would have a better sense of how to make money at the tables.
I played with $130 two more times, with two other shooters that I know from the casino.I ended up with a $240 win, for the session.

Re: First Attempt at Modified Regression
Bandit let's clear up a few items
1- MP has logged hundred of hours with different variations of betting until he came up with the use of the $204 across hence the name MP's $204 across
2- I have seen several posts from people stating that hey have modified his style with their own unique betting and regression. If you used $130 across then you didn't modify anything. You just used a different / your own betting style.
3- If you are willing to risk $130 across then why not risk $204? It's only another $74 dollars but the reward values the risk.
4- MP doesn't recommend using his $204 across except on DI shooters. There is a reason for that. It can break a bankroll real quick.
I play the $204 on myself and my shooting alone. I keep it for 4 hits then down to $52 / $54 across and pocket $150. To me that's more profitable then 2 hits and regress. I applaud you for playing a hit and regress betting strategy but please don't call it a modified MP $204 because it's not. It's a Bandit $130 across.

Once one becomes confident in their skills at DI, regression plays such as those discussed above are one of the best courses of action.

Re: First Attempt at Modified Regression
Yeah, I agree. Bandit has only been playing the game about a year now. When I had been playing about a year I was still playing quarter (and I don't mean $25) games. It's all about playing within your comfort zone when you're starting out. I'd rather see a guy do that than blow through a bankroll in a few hours by playing a strategy he's read about on the internet but never really played in the real world.
This is not to denigrate MP's $204 across, but let's face it. The Internet is full of Bozos and idiots who don't even qualify to ride on the short bus who post all sorts of insane strategies with outrageous claims on-line. ALWAYS take these things with a grain of salt and use them at your own risk.

"my gut was in knots" - this is what happens when you get out of your comfort zone. Fair play though Bandit and hopefully your $130 across with regression will get a bit easier on the stomach in future. The real test will come though when you lose a couple to PSOs.
Re: First Attempt at Modified Regression
I have been doing the $204 with 4 hits for a while now and been successful at it. On my last trip to Vegas (a few months ago) I decided to try Gargoil's $2040 across. Same thing 4 hits then down. I can tell you as soon as I placed the money and got the dice I felt like the earth was about the crack open and swallow me. I made one box number then down to $204.
Not theoretically an extra zero or more money shouldn't affect my play. But it did and it will do that to almost all of us because we are out of our comfort zone. As soon as you step out of your CZ you're gambling not DI'ing.
Bandit if $130 is your comfort zone then yea good job. If you can stomach an extra $74 then you are well on your way. Good luck at the tables.

Hey Gargoyl,
You are getting pretty ballsie..Way to go
I am glad to hear that you did not get burned.
As steep regressions go, that is about as steep as it gets.
Did you stay at 204 or regress as normal? You were certainly in a good position to do anything.
Bandit,
I commend your initiative..I believe you were wise to use your new strategy in a limited fashion. A big loss right now would feel crushing.
Now...As for Gargoyl, he has plenty of cash to absorb such a loss..

Don't know about plenty of cash but I have built up a good bankroll over the years.
Memo I am ready for the musketeers to get back together for another trip and fire bet win in Vegas. Come on man.

Re: First Attempt at Modified Regression
Way to go , bandit. I remember putting $5 on the line and being scared as heck. Then having to play on a $10 table and really freaking out. As time goes on and your bankroll increases , you will become more comfortable----I did , but it took years and soul-searching as to how I wanted to play. Good luck in the future.

I appreciate all of the comments!
For the longest time within my life, I believe that success leaves clues! And in finding this website and all of the postings have been a large part of the learning process and despite the nerves, I was able to step up my play to a new level.

Good job bandit. The only things I'd like to add is if losing that $1000.00 would affect your ability to pay your months bills or affect your family life don't bet that much until you have more money saved up.
You may not want to bet more on yourself until you become more comfortable with higher betting levels if you feel it may give you the dice equivalent of the yips.

Re: First Attempt at Modified Regression
Bandit. I understood exactly what you meant by modified mp204 play. As long as you are communicating the specific words don't matter. Your experience sounds much like ours. The first time I went $96 across I was freaking out inside but we made regression and a profit for that session. The real learning comes when you lose a few sessions. But once you get comfortable with volatility you begin to see that back and forth is pretty normal. 10 PSOs is not normal. 10 regressions without a PSO is not normal. Set loss limits and end a session when you have a reasonable win. Do that and the regression play will give you a great chance to win and a real chance to win big when the long hand shows up.
