Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Just wanted to get a discussion started on about superstitions or signs while your playing. Was not sure where to post it but want to hear from other members their opinions.
Superstition
I have to wait til come out to do a buy in.
I need to stand at sl1 to throw.
Signs
When the dice go off the table usually the next roll is a "7".
The dice hit the puck, dealers working stack or playing cheques usually a "7" is rolled.
When dealers are rotating and new stick is waiting usually a "7" is rolled.
Every bet you make loses time to leave.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Well, waiting to do your buy in until the puck is "OFF" is simply good table etiquette. The need to shoot from SL1 simply tells me that's where you are in your comfort zone. I would encourage you to open more opportunities by learning to toss from SL2 and SR 1 and 2 - plus straight out. Yeah, more time at the practice rig but you'll be a better player for it.
The other things you list as signs are things I call "indicators." Basically the same thing. There are many others I would add to your list. Probably most important is "Any shooter interruption." That means a "bump" by another player trying to squeeze in, a wife or significant other asking how he's doing and tapping his rack for a couple of chips, a cocktail server asking him if he wants a drink, etc. There are many more superstitions but I'll let someone else have some of the fun of listing them.

.
Player being "pushed" to speak while in the motion of shooting.
Advanced interruption Example : Dealer/Box Person requests " Would like a yo Mr Shooter , like a HORN ?
( or anything requiring a verbal response)
One of the strongest counters I have witnessed was a Fellow who ALMOST ALWAYS runs a steady non-interrupted diatribe of JABBER.......... He said he started developing his routine while in practice
and brought to his local joint. It countered so well that he just jacks his jaws while shooting all the time these days. It actually takes practice to develop the routine entertainment and perform the tasks WE DO .

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
I forgot to list this on signs. Have you noticed how the table is hot and dealers "slow down" or interrupt the flow of the game? I was throwing once and throwing good. The stick started telling me I had to hit the backwall. It threw me off, my next roll was a "7". All my prior throws were hitting the backwall according to a playing buddy at the table.
Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Yeah, that's real common. When I had back to back hour plus hands at Binions a couple of years back they were changing stick people about every third toss.
I had another hour plus hand over at Four Queens. Boxman got pissed off at the stickman and sent him home - then had the two remaining dealers run inside stick. He thought he was causing me problems, but since the stickman was gone I was able to move a foot closer to the back wall and just keep on keeping on.

I agree with most of Heavy's comments. Those "Superstitions" you mention are practical matters not "Stupor-stitions". The 'stuff between your ears' make superstitions. H calls them indicators but most of your signs are part of the game that you should prep for and use to your advantage. Like "Dice off table" only distraction if you let it be or ask for "Same dice". Slows my pace, I get new dice and go when in zone and so on. There are many ways to combat all things "between and outside EARS" found here on forum.

Edge Crusher
Ever notice how often the Ten and 5 follow each other in tandem.
So the NINE follows the SIX .........Hard SIX follows the NINE
With only ten numbers ,only six of them are BOX NUMBERS , you cam make
an empirical case out of many short time-span observations.
It only counts if there are two sanctioned witnesses

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
It is interesting to note the tendency of certain numbers to roll after certain other numbers roll. I'm less cautious about leaving my bets on after a hard ten rolls - however if the stickman sends the dice to the shooter with the hard ten up I usually DO turn them off.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
There's some good points above, regarding Superstitions and Practical Matters.
I usually call them STUPID-stitions though.
I guess almost all of us have a couple here and there, but when I enter a casino, I leave them at the door. LOL...

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Let me ammend my comment just a bit. If the dealer sends the dice out pre-set to the 5-5 and the shooter is a DI who has been tossing the V-2 then I'll usually leave my bets on. If I see them going out to Randy set on the 5-5 or any other hardway set that will double pitch into a seven then I turn them off. It seems to me that even though there is no field of influence on a Randy, that he often double pitches. It would be interesting to see the results of a couple of thousand Randy tosses with the dice set recorded. I think the results mind surprises some folks.

Ah yes. Why do you think I keep reposting the Craps Betiquette article. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've colored up and left the table after one of "our guys" had his hands out making a late bet and the dice bounced off him or is chips.Frankly, over the years, I've seen DI's kill more good hands with poor etiquette and poor knowledge of the game than good hands killed by dice off the table or a stick change or other superstitious reasons.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Has anyone notice this on a table? I was talking w/a co worker of mine who used to deal craps for nine years about setting. I was telling him when I throw on my rig, I usually throw better at night than in the morning. He thought there was some truth to it. He told me when he dealt in the morning the tables were usually cold. About 5 pm the tables would get hot. He could not explain it. All the times I went to play late morning to early afternoon the tables seem cold. When I go at night the tables seem to be up and down. Do you think more people playing at night compared to the daytime would have a factor?

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
With more people playing at more open tables; there's a higher likelihood of a 'hot' hand occurring.

Kind of with irish on this. He says rhythm and I say consistency. If the consistency is altered results may and often do change.
As far as superstitions go it really doesn't matter what I believe it is more important what the shooter believes. If anything bothers the shooter or if the shooter's focus is broken, whether or not realized by the shooter, the consistency changes. I react and some will say superstitious and I say cautious.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
When I first started I believed everything I had read. Then I started hanging with Dice Heads and they were more than willing to share their Superstitions. If one believed all of them or most of them they wouldn't be playing much.
As time goes by I have removed the majority of what would make me call my bets off. It's like that guy says its just stuff between your ears or something like that.
If you put the superstition into your head well its in your head. Next comes the hard part, removing it!

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Mine are ones that seem to stand out the most to me anyway....
Dice off the table and or a Stick Change:
PB/CB odds come "OFF"...until 1 box number hits, then back on unless followed by a string of sh*t #'s
Play a 3W7 $15, If it hits, Collect $69 and reduce to a $6 3w7, if it hits parlay the $15, repeat cycle.
What You are looking for is a 7Out, Collect $... Now a CO 7 followed by another CO7...

VDC, I like that play.
Whenevr there is a major dispute, if you are playing the rightside turn 'em off or take 'em down. If playing the darkside press the odds and hop the red.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
On dice selection - I usually am looking for a pair of sixes. I like that old 6-5 6-5 come out set. And yeah, you know I'm going to have that World/High High/Lo thing going.

Yes, it's the "return" of the Superstitions/Signs on a Table thread - where we annoy Irish with talk of Indicators and bad juju. Read the thread from the top, boys and girls, and add your thoughts below.

Re: Superstitions/Signs on a Table
Ha i was playing yesterday and on an ok roll, when the stick, which was a funny guy slowly started to try to get the dice set i was using when he would return the dice. . ..i was using 5's on top 6-3 facing me. It's one I've gotten to like the last few months. .he was a couple turns off a few times, then when he got it perfect, and i gripped the dice and noticed, in my head i said"shit" then of course that roll was 7 out. I laughed it off. Whatever, it is what it is, but i think the not having to fiddle the dice around to get them set got me out of my little zone. Think next time that ever happens I'll just move them around anyway. ..stick was a good energy funny guy, I'm sure he didn't mean any bad intent, maybe just trying to get a toke. The day ended up good so i didn't sweat it..but that's my latest voodoo story
