How Do You Get From PLAYER to WINNER?

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

How Do You Get From PLAYER to WINNER?

Post by heavy » Thu Jun 30, 2016 1:20 pm

Simple question. Most of you reading this are "players" at this point. You go to the casino, give a liitle, take a little. Sometimes you win - sometimes you lose. How do you take it from "sometime" to "most of the time" when it comes to winning at craps? I'll start off simply. Money management and discipline.

Money management, discipline, session management, training and charting (both yourself and all the other shooters at the table).

There might be some people that just play craps. As mentioned many times in my life, I have been quoted to say: "Did you come here to play with your Food or get some Lunch money. I'm here to win."

Discipline, as Heavy said, might be near the top of the list. I always thought it was better to make money when I was the shooter; now, I see I have at least 10 new opportunities at a full table, even if they are all Randy's, even if I pass my turn to throw.

It really doesn't matter if all the players at the table have a SRR of 2, and I would prefer that by the way, there is always a way to make money playing craps. I'm just saying.

Playing only when you're properly bankrolled. The casinos earn more income because of under bankrolled players that don't understand volatility than it does from the house edge.

Well, I look at it as a triangle with none of the three points of intersection more important than the others. First, You do have to have "the shot" and understand your own shot so that is one point and the first maybe. Second point, you have to have the bankroll and not scared money. Third, after you have the first two then you have to have discipline in your betting and money management. Discipline may have been the most important for me to change from a player to a winner but you need all three to maintain the triangle. Winning attitude and confidence takes up residence at the center of my triangle.

I think all above answers hit the mark.

A few more,

One need's to always keep their emotions in check. I guess it could be argued that this is part of discipline.
Fixed personal rules of play or "triggers" will contribute to one's effort at discipline. (e.g. loss limits, rules for randies, etc).
Sound betting strategy for your bankroll.
Accept the fact that you can't win every session.

If you can drive for say two hours to a casino, buy in for $400 or so, play your game and walk away with a loss of $60..get in the car and drive
two hours back home..and not feel completely depressed, you got it! You managed your money and your emotions.

Set a Win Limit of 20 to 25% and follow it like the Gospel. John Patrick said 30 years ago that most Players are ahead 20% at some point during a normal session. Then they piss it away plus some having a Good 0 Time. Play for Fun or Play for Profit, you can't do both. Want to make more, add another Zero to your Buy In.

I manage my emotions by beating on the steering wheel so hard that the Air Bag goes off in my face. There, I feel better now.

I am surprised on one has said "take a right on Player and follow it west until you reach Winner and you're there."

Nobody has talked about player edge either. To me that is THE fundamental.
