Sam Grafstein's Blackjack strategy - end of "DiceDoctor"

Believe it or not, craps is not the only game in the casino. Savvy players have a back-up plan for when their craps game is off. If Heavy isn't winning at Craps you're likely to find him playing Baccarat, Blackjack, or even Roulette. If the table games aren't working out he may even take a cigar break in the high limit slot area for a little hit-and-run action. But just like craps - you have to plan your play and play your plan. If you have a question on slots, video poker, carnival games or any table games other than craps, this is the place to post. Let's hear about the games you play when you're not playing craps! What's your game? What's your strategy? How's that working out for you? Inquiring minds want to know!

LOL. Now you made me think about the Johnson brothers - part of a pro team (primarily craps) playing in the deep south. One of the brothers is a forum member. Been trying to get him to post for years. Maybe one day he'll come out of hiding.

Hey Rosie - thanks for signing on the forum. Maybe we can get baby brother posting if we nudge him a bit. Guys, I don't want to give away too much so I'll just say this. The Johnson brothers dad is a born again dice cheat turned minister. They're raising money for the missions - playing dice for God. There's a fairly well known group of semi-pro gamblers called the Holy Rollers - mostly card counters - who do something along these lines. Rosie and his brother (Ed) are not part of that group. There's at least one other dice influencer out there that I know who plays to raise money for the church. Whatever works for you. Welcome to the board.

So Heavy; I notice these johnson brothers posts all took place on April 1. Coincidence? I've seen some ner-do-wells playing as teams in the Biloxi area, wonder if it be them?

I'd like to tell you more Jamie, but I just dug out my copy of the Dice Doctor and there is no BJ method at the end of my book. I must have a different edition I guess.

Just scroll all the way down and look on the right side of the page. Click on Page 1 and start reading with the first post. Read all the way through. But if you don't have the Grafstein book you need a copy.

There is a mistake in what the early gamblers did on the B.S. The math boyz and their "putters" claim the mistake is accurate. Not if you count on your fingers.

Black Cloud has been talking about this for as long as I've known him He sometimes refers to it as the FLAW. His contention is that back when Thorp and the guys were putting together basic strategy there was a lot of discussion (and very little agreement) on where certain break points were on hit versus stand, etc. He believes they got it wrong - essentially because they rounded the wrong way on the 18, as I recall. Anyway, I don't know if he can or will explain it. I do know that he did extensive study of the old archives from the 60's, when all of this stuff came together.

It is worth noting that Thorp did not really "invent" card counting as there were a LOT of old rummy players who understood card tracking and keeping side counts of aces and ten value cards all the way back to the 1800's, if not before. Thorp was simply the guy who codified things and wrote a book about a series of adventures in Reno where they tested their theories in live play and won a little money. That book "took off" and sold millions, making him much more money than 21 ever did. The rest is so much history.

The reason I quit trying to play blackjack was because of " penetration". When half of the cards are being "cut" out of play , the opportunities for increasing your wager at a "good" count are slim.

Heavy mentioned Arnold Snyder and he has a decent, simple strategy , or at least he did a few years ago, on his site called "Red Sevens" and also "Knockout Blackjack" by Ventura and another guy is another simple , true count strategy.

I quit attempting to play Blackjack in T-Town, when the best penetration I could find was 60% and when some 6-deck games became 8 -deck games .

Sam Grafstein`s Blackjack strategy is not very strong compared to Red Sevens or Knockout BJ or any other more complicated strategy .

:?: UNHH!!Howie Goldstien once said to BC, "I like to play at the LV club when I don't feel like counting." He apparently had a way to play in very low counts. At that time in his cab, BC was not quick enough to ask how.

Getting paid on clumping. Sit on first base bet according to 3rd base previous hand. Never play on a table with more than 3-max4 others. That is just what I heard.
