What's the Point in Lay Betting?

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
That's what I like to do. Sometimes if the table has been icy I will even bet myself on the don't until I make a point then switch. Hey if I lose one line bet because I hit the point everyone else is happy and I can switch over knowing I didn't ignore what had been the trend to that point.

I agree. If it wasn't for the fact that you lose your turn after a seven out I would probably play the dark side exclusively.
Just a thought ...

Hi Darkside. That is what I often do when playing on populated tables. The thing is if I walk into a casino and one table is full and the table next to it is completely empty I'll choose the empty table EVERY time even though I know it had to be trending cold.
I think I'll try what flex suggested and play the don't at least until I repeat a point when that situation arises.
Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
It seems like this has kind of deviated from the starting topic of lay bets but since we have arrived to this place I’ll toss in my $.02 worth.
Concerning the DP plays. That’s kind of what I’ve been doing lately also especially when starting out.
However, I don’t shoot for 7’s. Since I always use a set that produces many 6 & 8’s for me I have been using SIA’s 1 hit can’t miss with 1 exception.
After 2 hits I will bet the hand just like I would when playing the do side except I have a DP for $12. I like Heavy’s $18 6 & 8 play a lot so on the 3rd hit I go to $18 each. I’ll rack the next hit for 21 then go to 42 as they individually hit again. I like to rack 50 for 1 so usually stay at this level.
After I make 2 points I will switch to the PL side if my toss is feeling and looking right to me if it’s not I just stay on the DP. If the hand progresses even though I’m on the DP I can still place numbers that are showing.
Even though I'm not shooting for 7's it does take away some of the sting to be able to place $24 in my rack rather than loose that $10 PL bet.
I’ve also been using the basic 1 hit can’t miss on others unless I’m familiar with them or the table heats up.
This seems to be working pretty well for me, my style of play and my risk comfort level.

There's nothing wrong with this strategy. It's a matter of taking what the table is giving and making money.Cap-n_Lou wrote:That's what I like to do. Either way, it's about doing what fits your game.mssthis1 wrote:

I quit tossing the dice a while back however, I have a lot of fellow dark side players who use the same system all of you are talking about. It works for them ...
When I tossed the dice, I played from the PL only because I could never get comfortable betting against myself. Now that I play strictly from the dark side it's one less thing I have to think about.

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
In a casino where the vig is only collected on a win , you could lay $50, , winning $25 , however the win after paying a $1 vig is $24. Not a bad deal since the house edge on this play is 1.33 %. That makes this the 5th worse bet on a craps table, after DP/PL laying or taking odds and DC/C laying or taking odds.
Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
I'd call that #5 on the craps "best bets" list.

I think DF was doing a Grafstein tongue in cheek. He is prone to josh you a little.

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
But it will happen only 1 out of 5 times. Which means you lose 5 bets and win 6...so it is a good strat only if you're in luck that day, like any other

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
True. But gets costly quick when you have a session throwing 4's n 10 on comeout and SO early a few times. Been there on some bad days lol

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
I seem to have lost the gist of this thread. What bet are we talking about now that happens only 1 out of 5 but you lose 5 and win 6??

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
Shootitall, I should have called laying $50 on a 4 or 10 , the 5th best worse bet on a craps table.
All bets on a craps table are bad bets since you are dealing with a negative expectation.
The odds bet whether you are Taking or Laying odds is the best bet ...But.... it can only be made when you have a front line or line bet on the table.
So that is why we mostly make PL, Come, Don't Pass , Don't Come, Place the 6 and /or 8. Lay the 4 and /or 10 for at least $50 ( on a table where commission is paid only on a win) and Buy the 4 and /or 10 (In Tunica , I think that means a $20 wager).
All of the above wagers have a house edge of less than 2%.

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
In my opinion, don't lay bet unless you are throwing the dices and use a set to limit the outcome.
I like to laybet the 8 on comeout with 6-4;4-6 which has 4 sevens and 1 h8 on axis. Or parallel sixes and take no 5 or 9.

Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
Dan,use that set after you set a 6 or 8 as your point (when shooting from the don't). Hedge with an all day hard 8 if you feel the need.
Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
I haven't had the bankroll to play this (hope to by the time MGM Springfield opens), but this seems pretty strong through all testing...
This area is vig up front, so all calculations use this.
3 level progression, on the 4 and/or 10. One decision per 7. If you lose, stay down until the next 7 appears, regardless of shooter.
Level 1 - lay $41, win pays $20 -- Win stays at this level
Level 2 - lay $164, win pays $80 (clear $39) -- Win reverts to level 1
Level 3 - lay $488, win pays $240 (clear $35) -- Win reverts to level 1
Ideally I would like to play both sides at once, so I'm thinking minimum 2x full progression loss, per number, so $2772 bankroll.

Sharkbyte - what's your entry point here? Are you straight off the bat on the come-out with the lays after each 7 or are you waiting a certain number of rolls?
Re: What's the Point in Lay Betting?
I'm tracking from the first roll. Come-out 7's are too powerful to not have a bet working.

Thanks SB, that makes sense given the strategy you are employing.
