Come betting Question

How do others handle Come betting, or Place to Come back to Place betting?

I played continuous $5 come bets on a $5 table after placing the 6 and 8 for $6 each this past weekend, which I don't normally do and I'm wondering if there is better way to play this way. I started with single odds on my come bets and increased the odds (double, triple, etc.) as I hit come bets and won some money. Had I stated with $12 Place bets on the 6 and 8, I would have started with at least double or triple odds on the come bets as the 6 and 8 hit. Also, I think had I just used Place bets, which is how I normally play, I may have been more aggressive with at least an every other hit press and may have ended up ahead versus the come betting. I'm just wondering how others manage come bets or if they use a Place to Come back to Place strategy?

I think I mentioned on the other thread that when I make a decision to convert to Come betting it's usually because some distraction or another has me annoyed and I want to put my bets on auto pilot. I'll start out with either $18 each on the six and eight or $48, $51, or $66 inside. By the time I get around to converting to Come betting I'll likely have one or two of those pressed up a bit. If that's the case then I MIGHT regress the bets to something like $44 inside before making my first Come bet. From there it's unlikely that I'll make more than three Come bets, but I may continue to bet the Come if I still feel distracted and I have not gotten nailed by any mid hand craps rolls. Once I get back in the mental groove I'll almost always stop playing the Come and let the established Come bets and odds work off with subsequent hits. When a number comes down I'll replace it with a Place bet. Usually I'll go back in at the three unit level - $18 six and eight - $15 on the five or nine. And, as I mentioned before, I PREFER Place betting primarily because it lets me pick the numbers I want to bet and I have control over the bet as opposed to turning control over to the casino.

Here is my silly question,, if you place a come bet,, can you tell them you don't want it to travel, like you can with a don't come. just brain storming a little bit if this is possible

No, you can NOT tell the dealer a come bet not to travel. It is a contract bet like a pass line bet.

Would be wayyy overpowered if it didn't travel...only craps could take it down and it would pay on a seven... but nice try!

Thanks Heavy and Irish for your thoughts on Come Betting and I'll definitely have to give it some more thought for the next time. It's been so long since I played a $5 table that I decided to give Come betting a try without a lot of thought other than placing the Six and Eight for $6 and making $5 Come bets that started with single odds. It worked out that I hit several Sixes and Eights early and then it even seemed to work that I was then hitting mostly inside numbers so the continuous Come bets with increasing odds (1x, 2x, 3x, etc) ended up being my plan as the hand progressed. I guess a nice hand has a way of working out whether you make Place bets or Come bets as long as you hit lots of repeating box numbers (LOL), which is ultimately what happened. I'll have to ponder this one some more to have a better defined plan the next time I try Come betting.

With Place bets I'm normally a collect, press, collect, press (every other hit) style of player when I shoot. While I don't always employ a defined regression point, I have been thinking about trying use more disciplined style of play where I turn my Place action off and/or take it down after a certain number of hits (say 8 to 10) to take better advantage over some of those mid to high teen hands. I've had a few hands where I had a Pass line point of Six or Eight to start and placed $32 Inside and started hitting some inside repeaters had an extra $100 to $125 in the rack and $100 Place action inside ($30 Six and Eight, $20 on the Five and Nine) and I need to consider taking those Place bets down to try turn some $100 wins into $200 wins more consistently rather than always looking for that monster hand, which can be hard to do when you feel like you're shot is "Dialed-In". It takes a lot of discipline and I'm not there yet, but I'm getting closer.
