Rappin' Captain's Exponential Betting

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Thx Heavy/sputnik et al for your prompt response to my question above.

I thought RC continued with the incremental increases but wasn't sure. RC tweaked a few things in the latter part of his dice career /as mentioned above added several other levels. Many thanks to Americraps as much of my info on RCs' wagering approach came from americraps extensive testing/writings and back-and-forth discussions with RC on the D institute site.

A few commandments I remember RC seemed adamant about and mentioned in several posts was:

1)Do NOT work odds on comeout til you cover >=4 numbers. So if for example you're covering (#s 4,5,6) then you're OFF on the come out. If your covering (#s 4,5,6, and 8) or more then you're ON for the come out.

2)Do not skip, stutter, or stop with the press levels. IMO this is very important because as you know at or near that 5th increase the exponential compounding is really taking off and your growth curve really starts its upward angle. Any previous drawdown gets swamped. Especially on the hands that get into the >=5-12th press. I see quite a few 5-7 but seldom get to 11th..etc territory

3) RC felt the increases needed to stay at or slightly above 20%. He spoke several times that pressing too much can be as detrimental as too little.

RC mentioned several times the 20% increase was too much for 6/8 payouts because the payout is not sufficiently above the base bet. However, IMO this gets averaged out by the higher payouts from the other numbers. The majority of sessions I track will see the 5 or 9 out pace at least one of the 6or8s.

I use a similar exponential system except I don't try to cover all the numbers. After the point is established I cover that number and place an inside number for same amount(I choose the initial Place # from charting/tracking).
IMO Its difficult to use place bets below $60 amount. I prefer not to have the 6/8 as my first two numbers and will choose the optimum 5or9 based on tracking or what I'm hitting that session. After the second number is rolled(providing not a 2,3,11,12) I will cover the third number. I do not cover any additional numbers(even though I'm continuing with come bets but no odds), until I've received >=two payouts.

My largest win and highest ROI came from utilizing three of the inside numbers.

* As a side note I also use an exponential wagering approach on flat bets (DC and PL), as well as in Baccarat. Though IMO the above 20% is too aggressive for flat bets. On flat bets I prefer to use a smoother-curved progression based on some work by mathematician(Euler--pronounced like Oy-ler), utilizing the number E (2.71) and the natural logarithm of 1.

Thanks everyone and hope you have a healthy/wealthy year.

Thanks Scout. Have you ever tried this? I never paid much attention, but do any Southern Mississippi casinos go to 20X odds? Of course you can probably change from $5 to $10 flat on a 10X odds table.

I would love to see this strategy utilized during a seminar. Specifically, I think this strategy is perfect for a shared Team Bankroll outing. We truly have some sharp shooters on this forum who attend seminars and would absolutely clean up if they only had to focus on shooting dice. Also, it is pretty easy to grasp so that our "Whale" doesn't have to over think the next move in the progression.

Scout: Great story. Do you think his success was due to amazingly low -ev or DI?

Scout & House of Orange,

In my opinion, RC 's success was weighted more toward two factors: 1.) DI skills RC and other players have that played with him - generally someone would "be on" and have a long hand with a lot of repeating numbers. RC paid bonuses for any DI that had a hand that met a certain number of repeaters. Therefore, he had a skilled group of players to join him at the tables. 2.) The other contributing factor was the DI friendly tables that we were playing on with RC. I believe that we all would agree that the advent of micro fiber table surfaces and under lays that create bouncy table surfaces have made it multiple times more difficult to control on axis tosses. Certainly EV bets helped reduce the edge given to the casino - but with monster rolls all betting strategies look great. I will take a hot hand over any method or betting strategy for walking with meaningful wins.

Thank you Sputnick. So what has happened to the Captains crew? Do you all still get together?

House of Orange,

The group that played with RC has dispersed for the most part. Some have passed away, others have stop playing craps, and some of us (me and a few others) get together occasionally to play together.

Thanks again. Come betting is a controversial approach to the game, good to see someone who could make it work.

Hi HoO- I think his success was for a bunch or reasons- He had a great stable of shooters, and made the best bets in the casino. He also must have been well capitalized, and had to have possessed an iron set of cajones. EO capitalizes on trends and trends happen. Sooner or later a long hand will come and EO makes the most of it, while not losing a lot on a real short hand.

RC addmitted to betting on randies, although he didn't bet on every shooter, so he must have believed in the power of the long hand.

Scout- I thought that EO 1 ramped the odds all the way to 100x. RC didn't outline the progression all the way to 100 but he did put "etc...." which I thought meant to keep going.

$5K BR for $5 units is a matter of comfort. How long does it take to catch a big one? If you can get that big one in your first session, thats a gift, but I would like to have a bunch of shots at it.
See it in your mind FIRST...Then do it!

If you do have an advantage on a table, why would you not try this?

Rapping Captain would not play random shooters.

Once one was deep into a roll he would press the primary number 20% and sister number 10%.

He would work his numbers on the comeout once the shooter was in a zone and was not doing something stupid by setting for the sevens to make a few nickel and dimes.

If a shooter made 12 repeaters he would receive a $150 tip.

18 or 24 repeaters [memory is fuzzy] $500 so on.

I once got tipped $2000.

Rapping Captain was a very good shooter. On one roll around the 12-18 number mark he started rolling only hardways. He never bet them but I went $5 on each.Pressed each hardway to a dime on a hit then 15,then 25,then 35,then 50,then 75,then 100,then 125 .Just before he sevened out he hit my hard eight for $150.
