Video Pokered
Recently when I've gotten to the casino and the only table running is full, I have exercised my new skill at VP. First game I played was Jacks or Better, taking note of the pay schedules as instructed. Where I play I had to search throughout the entire casino to find only one machine which showed the 9-6 fullhouse/flush payout..which is the best. I expanded to Deuces Wild, but there is a controversy. Whether to hold two pair or one of the pairs. I prefer holding one pair because you should always go for the highest possible hand. Two pair gives you one pull to get either a wild 2 or one of the cards of either pair. Highest hand you can get is a full house. If, however, you only hold one pair (either one.) you have three cards coming and make four of a kind or..lucky you..five of a kind! Deuces wild pays nothing for two pair unlike Jacks or better. Lowest payout is 3 of a kind..so it seems to me that holding one pair in deuces wild is the best move. But Wizard of odds puts a higher percentage on holding both pairs. Any thoughts?

I like the Wizard site as he does a super job; what's the difference in percentages between holding the pair & the two pair?
I believe the Bob Dancer card for deuces wild says to only hold the pair, not the two pairs for the very reason you state - more chances to hit the pay table. I will look for the card, its around here somewhere; that's how I play it. I also choose to hold the higher pair. That's just my method though, as tactically I should probably hold the lower pair due to my distrust of RNGs; which sooner or later round down. Division by 13 is irrational math (lots of decimal places)-though should be trivial-but is it?
Good luck out there, D.N8r

If it is full pay deuces wild you hold one pair, but you are almost certain to hardly ever find that in a casino these days.
DW44 or, Ugly Dueces as it is known, is much more common. On this game you hold two pair plus there are a few changes extra compred with full pay DW. Overall the DW family of games is a tricky beast given the plethora of pay tables.
Have you heard of WinPokerHD? It's a great app for training on VP. Probably the best money I ever spent on a non free app.

UNHH!! BC prefers multi-liners with multi-denominations. Play low and go up on wins cautiously. UNHH!!

Yep, the above is a great resource. It's essentially the bible of where to find the best VP. Even machines next to each other at a bar or on the floor that look identically may contain differing pay tables for the games.

Yes. Excellent. Not surprising your chances go south at smaller casinos.
