The Soyonara Bet

John Patrick has talked about the Soyonara Bet for years. In short, it's a final bet you make agter you hit your win goal but before coloring up. For John it was typically $41 no four or no ten.

Let's say your win goal was $200 and you have a $260 win in the rack. You lock up your buy in and the $200 guarantee. What do you do with the other $60? Soyonara bet? Lock it up? If you make a final bet with it how would you play it?

$30 6 or 8 depending on which is hotter with a $25 hardway of the same number. If it hits soft, replace hardway, and go up to $42 on soft. Let’s go!

I'd do $10 each 5 and 9 and $20 each on 4 and 10 and just keep pressing aggressively as they hit. More so if I or a buddy is the shooter setting the 4/10 set. You never know....

If it's a randie, do the three count first and go $30 each on the 6 and 8. Then start building sideways on succeeding hits . Once all numbers are placed, alternate press and collect on the winning number and build upwards.

I have often done soyonara bets but for much smaller amounts and to me the soyonara bet is after colour up, otherwise it is too tempting to carry on, win or lose and it is just becomes a bonjour bet instead.

For me, it's loose change on some hardways for myself and the crew. Look to be aggressive with a parlay and walk for sure if one hits and don't sweat it one bit if the next shooter goes PSO.

I'd use it to take a shot on a slot machine. Biggest slot win I ever had was after a run at the table and decided to try a hundred in a double diamond $25 slot. It kept giving me small hits so I pressed it up to 2 credits and hit Double Double Red Seven for 16K. That was back in the late 90's.

A long time ago, I mentioned the Soyonara Bet on Mad professor's forum but I miss spoke and called it a a Suicide Bet instead. I immediately get a message from him. He thought I was contemplating suicide. I assured him "I Was Not" and that I was just talking about the Soyonara Bet. We got things straightened out and all was well.

As far as making a $60 Soyonara Bet, I wouldn't . Hell, I'm going to put it in my pocket with the rest of my winnings. $60 can buy me a lot of groceries.

Think I'd make a $60 bet at the flower/card shop for my wife...probably go a HELL of a lot further than any other bet, highly likely to be a winning bet and should guarantee many more 100% approved trips back to the casino craps table!

I'm the wet blanket, I'd lock it up. For me any amount that I win beyond my "win goal" is 1) just an extra cushion when I have bad sessions so I don't hurt my bankroll as bad had I not had that extra monies. 2) My bets are, what I believe, the best bet for my toss, so i wouldn't want to "gamble" on another bet that is not optimal, nor do I wish to use it on a random roller. 3) any amount I win on my toss gets funneled back into that bankroll so I can eventually start betting bigger so I don't want to mix that monies with another bet.

On reading this again, in the context of a $200 win goal, no way would I be betting $60 as a "see ya and goodnight" play. That $60 is 30% of the way to my win goal next time, so I could easily say next time I play I'm looking to be only $140 up, then I have made two win goals in two sessions.

Now if I'm $660 up, $60 spunked on an exit play may not be such a bad thing.

Here, I'd want to do no more than $10, if anything at all. Put it on a couple of hardways, make it a two way play in some respect and make sure I walk with at least $250 up and look to win $150 from my next session.

If as in your case I had $60 over my win goal, I would flat bet until I lost one of my betting units DP, quit, color up and go home.

Not only have I never done it before, but I have never even considered such a thing..
It looks like a doorway back into the game. If you win the bet...Why not run it again..?
Something just does not feel right about this..All this work and practice in order to get over the house edge..
Discipline to know when to stop, so now I am going to throw a significant portion of it on the table to satisfy a whim..?

Is this not, just a little like chasing losses, except you are ahead...?
My thinking is that if I have to do something with it, I will add it to my next buy in.

I agree, when I hit my win goal - I go.

I don't need to win another $20 or $40 with the Sayonara Bet. While I understand Patrick's strategy, it doesn't work for me, simply as I generally never lay a number. My exit strategy revolves around making the same schedule of bets that have been winning. when on the don'ts, I prefer to bet the DP or DCs and if/when I get to a goal then I generally make one more DP/DC - with the disciplined self agreement that if it loses, I'm gone. If it wins, I'll repeat most likely. However if I'm one cycle short of the goal and sense a shift in the force - then I'm more than happy to skip out with 90% of my goal.

I do the exact thing, and I’ll rip the dealers a small percentage of what’s over my intended winnings.

Since I see them at least twice a month, it’s important for me to take care of them.
