Heck, I'm 6 foot and I still stand on my tiptoes to shoot. I like to get my body up and over the dice so that I'm looking more directly down on them. I get a better feel for whether the dice are square to the deck that way.

.Craps tables vary in dimensions casino to casino.....fishinggoddess60 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 3:14 pm
( I am vertically challenged and have to stand on my tippy toes to shoot. I am 5'2 and have fairly long legs for my height, but short the rest of the way up. It is a bit awkward, no matter how much I practice on our table at home, the casino table is about an inch taller). If I stand on the dealer side hook, I cannot even reach the field bet, have to throw the chip and announce that is what it is and have to have the dealer or someone slide any payout.
.
Have observed a number of Vertically Challenged to Dice Table Height players
who are very effective shooters and PROFICIENT WAGER PLACERS....
( FOLKS WHO KNOW HOW TO WALK With a $ WIN ).
The stature to the dice table was overcome by standing on
a briefcase reinforced with a wooden block or two inside the briefcase......
Perhaps a handbag of some sort would level the Field..
The tossing and betting develop with PRACTICE,Patience and EXPERIENCE
.

Re: Strategy of boxcars
Thanks for the advice WC. I just wonder what the dealers would say if I did walk in one day with a brief case with bricks. I doubt they would let me stand on anything. The dealers who are vertically challenged get to stand on a wooden box. I asked once why I couldn't. They told me years ago they used to allow that, but because of liability issues, they quit. I guess I was just wondering if there was anyone else who had that issue and how they overcame it. I will just have to keep at it. I am pretty good at being able to get under the table though to fetch the dice if they fly off . :-0

Re: Strategy of boxcars
I stood on a reinforced computer case to toss for many years in the casinos. I used some plywood with rigid house insulation in between so it was very light to carry. Only had a couple casinos who questioned it. Most said the insurance liability was only if I was using their casino box but my own was at my own risk. It will certainly make you stand out as "different" from every other shooter but if you don't mind it is not a problem. With all of the different style shoes for women I now just use shoes/boots with a high platform sole and that works fine for me at 5' 5". Good luck finding your solution for shooting comfort!

Re: Strategy of boxcars
fishinggodess - I do like to used crossed 6s a lot when shooting from straight out. Seems a very forgiving set for me at times. I'll admit I often put down a field bet on the come out (providing 12 pays triple) when using that set more as a "bit of fun" than anything. Quite a few on here also play a world bet on the come out as a game within a game - again it's more a bit of fun than anything as the high house edge bets should not form part of the strategy you use with the main portion of your bankroll.
Nothing wrong in setting aside a portion of your buy-in for world, craps bets and bonus bets to be honest, but be rigid with it and don't chase it. You'll often see players who are betting something stupid like high/low on every throw of the dice. At least they are keeping the lights on for the rest of us

fishinggodess,
A buddy and i were playing in Shreveport when a very height challenged lady bought in at SO on the right side. WE were at SL1&2 and a couple of other guys on our end SO. She was so short she was literally throwing them over handed. Note i said throwing, not tossing. She would stretch to reach them slowly cock her arm and then like a snake striking snap them down the table like a Nolan Ryan fast ball. The guys on the end started ducking. WE were talking about needing safety goggles or a helmet just to ourselves not being rude. As the dice ricocheted off of chips the diamonds and an occasional body part we got a little more animated with our dogging but she was unfazed. After about 6 or 8 tosses with a number of 8s i tossed out a couple of bets. My buddy looked at me like i was crazy. She continued to fire them down the table and we all started betting. Some 30 bullets later she finally tossed the bad number. Where there is a will there is a way. Keep after it!

Thanks to all of you. If there is one thing I do have is a lot of determination. So I WONT GIVE UP. Cant tell you how many times I have been or almost been elbowed in the head/face. "Hey look down, person alert"I have seen the fast ball throws myself, fast enough to strip the pips off the dice. Lol. As ugly as it may be, sometimes they get better rolls than me. Think i will ASK next time we go. They search our fanny packs, bags, etc. At the door so that was my only issue with carrying anything in there. Not like they dont know us, we are there atleast once a week. I will just keep on going, practicing, reading these post on possible betting strategies and learning a lot from all of you who have played much longer than!!!! Knowledge is power.

Re: Strategy of boxcars
I play $5 on 12 on every comeout roll that I’m shooting. If it hits I press it up to $100 and lock up the $50 and second hit pays $3000. I’ve been played this way for a couple years and I’ve rolled back to backs 22 times and 3 in a row three times, but it can be a long time between hits for me and they always clumped together. I know it’s a bad bet but it’s the only bet where I’m ahead of the game.
Re: Strategy of boxcars
I’ve had long streaks of horn too, like 8+ horn numbers... but hedging a 1.41% bet with a 10-12% bet is disaster overtime. Tried it long enough.
Sure is fun to pop a world bet on a yo/7 winner tho from time to time.

Yeah. Got in the habit of doing that world bet from SO with x6s. Amazing how many times it works. Also from SR or SL with straight 6s.
Re: Strategy of boxcars
Earlier in this thread someone asked "Why is it conventional advice to 'not hedge' or 'never hedge'"
Many have already replied that you are exposing yourself to high house edge bets (often) when you hedge. For example, you hedge a passline comeout throw with a Any Craps, or a 3-way craps, or a horn high X, etc.
For that throw only the combined house edge is a combination of the house edges on your passline bet plus the house edge on all those 1 roll prop bets.
Many have also said that your profit over time is less because of the hedge bets included in your per-session betting strategy.
So its like this: If you consistently bet a 3-way craps, one dollar each along with your $15 passline bet EVERY comeout roll, your typically giving away $3 to the casino as a vig on every comeout roll.
There is a third reason why hedging is bad. A highly mathemetical reason: It reduces Variance. Varience itself is either your freind or your enemy, but it is your ONLY friend in casino gambling besides some sort of advantage play like Dice Influence, Card Counting in BJ, etc.
Every single bet on the layout has a built in house edge or vig. The only bets paid at true odds are:
Free Odds as a companion to a passline/Come bet
Free Lay as a companion to a dont pass/dont come bet
Buy bets (typically only buys on 4 or 12 are "worth it" based on the vig, except in Gulf Coast venues where 5 and 9 are also "worth it", based on Vig.
Everything else has a house edge. When you hedge in any way shape or form, you are lowering variance *with respect to your own wagers*.
With one or more hedge bets in play, you stand to lose lesss but also to win less. The only way to win "bigly" is to find streaks of high positive variance. DI can help also, but you still need to rely on variance to pull ahead.
