Use to have a Clue - but lost it!

The forum name says it all. You're new to the game of craps and don't have a clue where to begin. Pass Line. Don't Pass. Come. Don't Come. Hardways. Big Six. Big Eight. The Horn. Good Grief! Sounds like back when you were trying to make a decision about what to do in the back seat on that first car date. Well never fear! There are a few folks around here who have spent enough time at the tables to be able to answer just about any question you may have. So step right up and get a clue!

Use to have a Clue - but lost it!

Post by DoSA » Sat Oct 27, 2018 9:16 pm

I use to play craps. Lost my way and now I am found. Now I just need to find that CLUE.

A few of the gray hairs may remember me, some may not want to. :(

All of my youtube videos are gone with the wind, as is my table. Still have 2 practice rigs.

I am retiring from my day job soon and will be getting back to practice - yep practice. For those that remember me - practice is what I do. Had some pretty good results along the way. I still have my "Golden Arm" plaque date July 16, 2006. I still have a packet of lights that Heavy offered up if I'd toss a hard 8. Bottom line.... I'm baaaaack. Will be even more so once I start my terminal leave in a couple of week.

Plan your play...and...PLAY that PLAN! Not the casino's plan. Not the dealer's plan. Not the other player's plan. Not other Board members' plan. YOUR plan! Own it and do it!!!

LOL. Main Street Station. The day the dealerette got off work at the Four Queens and followed us around the rest of the day, playing craps. She recognized a group of shooters when she saw us. Somebody queue Mary Hopkin. I know Dave's old enough to remember this one when we played it on the radio.

Next year I hit 65 - so yes I remember.

LOL looks like my post total lost a couple of zero's. Now I need to download Bonetracker. My old puter that kept all of my "material" is long gone.

Not really gonna say my lower back is any better but my surgery total on my spine now totals 7. Not much more they can do for me. Every few years they will have to go in and replace the battery in the Neuro-simulator. So prolonged walking and table time are something I will have to build up to. Prolonged is 2+ hours. Bottom line no hands longer than 2 hours !!! LOL!!! ( i.e. get ur bet in quick )

DoSa,
I have never crossed your path bruddah, but as another ol' guy (few months shy of 70) allow me to say, practice is all we got to rely on otherwise the gambling budget is going to pay for those marble and brass "separators" between the urinals in all those Strip casinos in Las Vegas. I hope to make your acquaintance at one of Heavy and Howard's get togethers. Nothing beats the people who are practicing the dice toss for a day of "winner" yelling by the dealers at the craps tables and getting together with each other at those special times.

Welcome back ole buddy. We old guys on the board have really missed your astute posting. BTW: One of our also long time buddies has moved to SA: Heavy will clue you in. He is a great shooter, a great guy and good bettor.
Crap, just remembered. I think you both were at the FW ET thing several years ago. Heck Dave, I trampled 75 this month.
Your craps plan? The dice gods laughed.

Hey Dave,

Good to have you back.
Lets get together and practice some, I am situated relatively close to you....If you still live in the same place,
I have a table and well equipped craps pit.

I have some issues to work on and your eye may be just what is called for.

WoW talk about bringing back old memories - but yep your are correct. Eye to hand coordination was key to my success in darts and I believe it's also a big part of wearing very small holes in my table ( my ex-table that is ). However, I do look forward to knocking the rust off. It'll be best if I start once I am at home alone ( i.e. wife at work ). I brought up the possibility of another table and about went nuts ( if you recall it's not a very long trip for her ).

On the subject of darts; I am scheduled to go to Nashville in May for a reunion with some of my old military buddies. We all threw darts to balance the 12oz drinks in out other hands. fyi: been retired from the USAF for a bit over 26 years.

Welcome back to the boards Dave. New to me, but I hope we get to meet some day soon at a one of Heavy's events.

Nice to see a fellow darter here. It's been a while for me as well since I last tossed them.

Thanks 22I and j1943. I do like both kinds of music - Country and Western. :) Actually went to an Eagles concert back in May - it was GREAT. I made the mistake of getting floor seats. The seats got very little use. Joe Walsh may be in his 70's and his voice isn't what it use to be but he still great on the guitar.

Welcome back DoSA. Though we've never met, I do recall reading many of your posts on the forum in past years.

Well, I can tell all of you that DOSA is OCD enough that if he gets DI back in his POV he will be back in winning form ASAP. Okay, enough acronyms. Dave, we just need to get you into a class for a quick tune-up and a betting strategy discussion. You'll be in winning form in no time.

Just for those that don’t know me.

One my very first trip to LV, a friend kept on me about joining him at the craps table. Long story short we didn’t do to well. I didn’t understand anything, BUT I did notice that a few guys did seem to know more that the rest of us.

When I got back to San Antonio I got on the old Google machine and started searching. Found a few peeps on the net and one suggested that since I live in Texas I should contact Heavy and see about a lesson at his place.

Next thing you know I am on way to North Texas for an hour lesson with the man himself. Well Heavy was sick ( a cold I think ). But he still kept the appointment. He did a quick demo and I noticed pretty quickly that eye to hand coordination was going to be a big help. I have been playing dart for years over in Europe decades before and as Wild Child mentioned it has served me well ever since.

My time with Heavy lasted almost 3 hours not just the 1 I’d paid for. He track my tosses ( I didn’t know nothing about tracking tosses ), and makes a statement about me not throwing any double pitches ( I didn’t have a clue what a DP was ).

The ones that know me will probably let you know that very few if any track more tosses than I have. I put holes in my table felt and I’d change something in my tosses and my landing spot would change and wear another hole. If I toss the dice at home – it’s recorded. On casino trips I only report tosses that are witnessed by someone in the DI community.

End pt 1

I use to post recordings on youtude – they are all gone now. But I have had guys come up to me in casinos and say “Your DoSA, aren’t you? I have seen your videos and would recognize that toss anywhere.” In my videos I wore a Stetson to cover my face – lot of good it did me LOL. Unlike some videos ( don’t want to mention Dominator by name ) a lot of the videos I’d have the wife zoom in to actually show the results of the tosses.

With me it’s really simple – bet the 6 and 8. It’s what I set for. Why? Even if I make a mistake, other than the 7 what’s next likely numbers to show up? Keep It Simple Stupid. Straight to the back wall and straight back. Straight back is the hard part. Avoid the curve. Clean hands. Anchor to the table. Avoid any unnecessary movement. Less energy is best. Practice till your arm drops off. Set your practice to be able to emulate hard and bouncy table – practice both. Study BT enough so that you can change the dice set to roll “your” numbers. Don’t bet on random rollers ( but we all do it ).

Hi Dave. Well we don't know each other but welcome back.

Interesting to hear of your background in Darts over Europe. Was that just a hobby or did you ever get into playing any of the pro tournaments?

As an aside, a boxman at the Hard Rock Biloxi was telling me he is a very high standard darts player.
