Craps Check Question
Hey All,
This is a pretty basic question so please be kind-ish.
Why do people bet a $3 crap check instead of betting $1 on the 2, 3, 12 individually?
If I am correct, the craps check pays 7 to 1 but the 2, 12 each pay 30 to 1 and the 3 pays 15 to 1.
What am I missing?

Re: Craps Check Question
$3 craps pays $21 regardless of which crap number shows
Individually with a 2 or 12 you get paid $30 but you have to subtract the $2 you lose on the other crap numbers for a $28 profit
Likewise if a 3 shows you get paid $15 less $2 for a $13 profit.
So you get paid more on the 2 or 12, less on the 3 if you bet individually compared to the any
So one bet does not pay better than the other regardless of which crap number shows.

Re: Craps Check Question
Buffalo Yo,
I'll toss my three cents in on this one; or actually I'll paraphrase John Patrick from his Advanced Craps book (the Green Book) where he talks about the Three Way Craps bet.
Basically it depends on your line bet size as JP uses it as a hedge. In the JP world, he is iffy to hedge at $10 and goes $1 hedge on any craps at $15. Then $2 any craps for hedging a $20 line bet. JC then goes with a 3 Way Craps with his $25 line bet. His thinking is a $3 any craps pays $21, but with the 3-Way you've given yourself 2 chances to score the 30-1 payout on the Snake-Eyes or Midnight. The $1 for the Shock-a (ace-deuce) is only a partial hedge at 7-1. All three are still players choice. JC goes on further - for a $30 line bet he does a $2 shock-a, plus a buck on the 2 & 12. Many here leave the line bet naked, rightfully reasoning why should I make multiple bets of a worse advantage to protect a better bet as one of 'em is gonna lose for sure.
JC isn't a DI. For DIs its a different game. For example if you're playing Game Within the Game - i.e. setting to produce a horn number on the come-out; many of us bet the World (2,3,11,12, any seven-which is a push) and the use a variation of the crossed-sixes set to try and hit the 2 or 12 - this is especially fun if your line bet is a DP. Another time I like this bet is if I have a $25 free bet voucher - I'll play it on the PL and make a three way craps bet and set to toss a 2 or 12. A variation on this that I picked up from Heavy a few years ago, that I also like, is to make the World Bet and include $2 for the Hi-Lo - that's easier for the stick as well, toss 'em $7 and say "World, Hi-Lo".
So, a few ideas for you to experiment with, cheers, D.N8r

Re: Craps Check Question
Here is my math on this. Assuming a prefect world.
$3 Any Craps over 36 rolls you will throw one 2, one 12 and two 3's. For a payout of $84.($21 x 4)
$1 Three Way Craps The pay out would be $82. One 2 pays $30, but you lose $2 for $28. Same thing for the 12. One the 3 you win $15 but lose $2 for $13, twice.
So $28 + $28 +13=$13 = $82.
Of course this is based on what should be rolled over 36 tosses.

Thanks guys.
The explanations make sense. I just thought I was missing something as I am not one of the "math" guys.

Re: Craps Check Question
I'm also of the opinion that it's a craps cheque, as in chip, although I always write it as craps check because I don't want to go through that explanation every time.

I also think many gamblers are creatures of habit. Grandpa Joe always bets the $3 crap check, so does his son Papa Jim. Jim recently taught the bet to his son, Jeb...

Re: Craps Check Question
I usually play a $2 3 $1 2 and 12
I got cocky on a $5 dollar table and didn't cover craps and threw two 3's in a row. lol I don't deviate anymore since I always seem to hit a craps on one of my come outs.

Do you set for those numbers or are they a by product? Are you shooting from the PL or the DP ?

by product, I shoot from the pl.
Re: Craps Check Question
Yeah, a lot of us play a game within a game where we actually TRY to toss Horn numbers on the Come Out. Then it can be an advantage bet IF you're good with that toss.

Re: Craps Check Question
Heavy years ago you were using a 6/6 - 5/2 CO set.
Are you still using this set or have you changed things up?
