What do you do when the dealer overpays you?

It depends for me I used to keep it but now it depends on the casino and crew and how much it was. I figured over the years I probably have been shorted a few times maybe when I might of had to many adult beverages A few months back one night the casino raised the min to $25 I went to the Dice Coach system of 25 do 25 don't with $1 on the 12 then took odds on the do after we had a point then did it with come bets the dealer had no clue sometimes he would try and take both bets sometimes he would pay both. The box was a real dickwad as Heavy would say, he was busy hitting on the female dealer and was paying no attention to the game so in that game I accepted the over payment. I don't think I would do that in my favorite Biloxi casinos I like the comps to much. I have never been over paid enough to make the casino think the dealer was working with me but I don't want any trouble I just want a fair game and good crew.

If its under $5(typically $1 or $2), I rack it and say nothing. If $3 -$5 I may put out as a dealer toke on my next wager even when Im not the shooter.
The dealers' errors go both ways and usually seem to favor the player so I don't complain when they short my payout $1 or 2.
IMO dealers are extremely accurate.
Im much more concerned with the Box making errors on the color up. I see far more errors at that stage(99% of time not in my favor)

This is a great point, TGold and O. I try to always have a general idea of what I have in the rack during a session and I get more exact when I'm getting that urge to color up. Mistakes definitely happen during color up and that is when they the have the potential to be bigger mistakes.

"Mistakes" certainly do, like putting 5 greens per stack and counting each stack as $100. When I told him to go back and make them stacks of 4 instead of 5 he got very defensive, "oh, I didn't know". I didn't believe him for a second. He had hassled me from the 1st moment I touched the dice and began to set them by announcing "looks like we got a pro". I only tossed 2 hands at that establishment and will never play there again. (Vegas, PH)

I always play at a break in joint, so mistakes are a fact of life. The regulars who point out the mistake (under/over pay) are treated like royalty and are comped accordingly, the other schmucks don't last long.

Defensive and resentful. I have encountered that several times when i have questioned the count. It can happen at buyin as well but easier to catch.

Seems to even out for me overall. I get shorted and don't catch it until it's too late...and I get overpaid sometimes too. It's not my job to train dealers or watch over them so I just let it be...

Okay, it's time for the boy scouts to 'fess up. What do you do if the dealer overpays you on a bet. Feel free to explain the circumstances.

In my case, if a dealer overpays me and does not realize that he's done so - and the box didn't catch it either - then I'm probably going to rack it and move on.

If a dealer overpays me and I see him hesitate - realizing what he's done - I'll just toss the overpayment back to him.

If the boxman catches it and says something to me I simply lay the entire payoff on the layout for the eye in the sky and ask them to correct the payoff.

Generally I don't want to get the dealer in trouble by making a big deal out of being overpaid. At the end of the day those over-payments usually go back to the dealers in the forum of tokes. The danger in doing this is that security MIGHT think you are in collusion with the dealer to set up a win for them. Who needs that kind of attention.

I'd rack it very quickly. I was playing bj also one night. The dealer was super tired and kept paying me on losing hands. About 5 of them. They replaced the dealer after the fifth hand. He never got in trouble and I wasn't asked to repay ! lol If I go to a grocery store and the cashier gives me too much change though, I'm honest and give it back.

Yes, a couple of times on my way home I played back my session and I seemed to be short a couple times. Honest mistakes I believe, but I've since made it a point to count my chips. Keeping them organized makes it easier.
