Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
I've always liked the heatseeker.
It's always interesting to watch the dealers the first time you bang a six or eight. They so want to cap your flat with odds, normally the first couple of times they need to hear it twice "no odds and bring down the place". Lately I've made the first come bet two units, as it protects both 6 & 8, and sets the stage if that number repeats, provided of course that I like the trend. Another variation that I like is to do double odds on the first point, if it's an inside number, and I'm shooting. Then regress to single odds for the second point. I've evolved a bit from where I was a couple of years ago in that I'm much more willing to sit on the don'ts, and wait; but when there's a warming trend, it's heatseeker time for me.

I'd be very keen if someone saved this Wincraps bet file that was posted here a long time ago. Looks like wudged may have programmed it fully, if not close to being done (which I could finish).wudged wrote:heavy heat seeking-wudged.bet
it's somewhat commented but i haven't touched it in a year so i don't know much about it at this point

Greetings all
Long time reader first time poster (if you call 6 months a long time)
Question for the forum
Starting playing craps about 6 months ago. i made the switch from playing baccarat for the last 15 years. I always knew the basics of how to plays craps but never a legit strategy. When i started playing craps I kept it simple. Id bet the passline for 1 unit then placed bet the 5 and 9. Not really sure why but i did. So then i would sit there and wait, and wait, and wait until either my passline, 5 or 9 hit or what always seemed like an immediate seven out. It always seemed like every other inside number would hit except the 5 or 9. So then i switched over and started playing the 6 and 8 only but would skip the passline bet. Maybe it was my distorted perception but it seems like after i switched to playing the 6-8, there now seems like a over abundance of 5-9s being rolled.
So about a month ago i read and figured out how to plays heavys heet seeker method. I like the method. practiced it using wizard of odds, then when i felt comfortable betting it, took it to the casino for live action. Only problem is I have yet to have a winning session. Ive broke even a few times but I seem to always have a miserable start. I swear the last 3 sessions, I would chart table/shooter (which probably isnt very good), wait 2-3 rolls using positive shooter recommendations, place the 6-8 with the come bet but 2 come bets later without collecting any money comes the instant 7 out. for the immediate 3 unit loss. Yesterday i started out with my first 3 were instant losers before i won my first roll. I try to keep my sessions to two hours or less with a bankroll of $500. Only problem is my local casino only has $5 tables on weekday mornings and are packed with all the local degenerates who love to shoot by shaking the dice in their hand and saying "mama needs some new shoes' while snapping their fingers then swearing when they 7 out within 3 rolls.
So here is my question: Im making an assumption that better shooters are playing the $15 $25 tables. Any suggestions on what to do when table is filled with crummy shooters all around?

How about a little Don't play? By pass the come out and lay against the point, for example. If a hand develops place bet the sister of the pointended or the current dominent number.

Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
I wouldn't assume better shooters are playing at higher limit tables, though for myself, if a table is crowded and I'd prefer less people I will move up to a higher limit table to thin out the herd. The other factors to consider are that, even if someone is a "better" shooter, they may be comfortable at the lower limit tables or they might not have the proper bankroll to play at higher level.
Also, if the table is not giving, for the most part here are your choices
1. Don't bet on them and just wait until the dice come back to you. If the table is that bad, you should get the dice back in short order
2. Leave the table and try to find a better table.
3. Play the Don'ts
We can make money on the Don'ts, it's just most people don't like to, or have trouble wrapping their head around betting more to win less.

Another Don't option would be SIA's One Hit - Can't Miss play.

Clubfan,
I don't think you will normally find better shooters at the higher priced tables. From my experience there are usually some decent shooters at a full table, you just have to look for them. The local folks, the rythemn rollers, the setters, and other patterns observed that produce longer hands and/or repeat numbers. And, at some point the randies will have some longs rolls. Last week at the boats, two randies had the longest rolls of the day and I totally missed one and only got in on the last half of the other. I'm still kicking myself.
I have also played the 6/8 come bet many times and have had up and down results. If that is not working next time another simple option is to place a $12 or $18 6 and 8. On the first hit regress to $22 inside. This gets your money off the table fast so you can play on the house money and have money on the table when the longer rolls happen. You may not get rich but you shouldn't loose much either. Good luck!

I think there's something to that. And I see plenty of big bettors at the low-minimum tables betting on those who appear to be DIs. It may just be because I tend to go to the lower-cost casinos but the times I've watched (or ventured to play) $25 tables I haven't noticed any better rollers than what we see in the cheap seats.DaveGCT wrote:Are there better players at the $25 table? Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
Tried it on saturday, takes some getting used to but it sure works! But the stickman looks at you funny when you take multiple come and no odds lol.
Need a bit of tweek to make it comfortable but cool way to make a lot of comps quick.
I worked it with just 1 starting bet instead of two and pickup the second after first hit... Leaves the option to hit the odds on the 8 if it hits while you chose to go with just da 6. And less involving on short rolls.

Bump. Heavy's Heat Seeker play has had a little bit of discussion recently in another thread, so reviving this post where it is outlined in detail.
Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
I will tell you that I played a variant of the Heat Seeker in Kansas City on a $25 game to good end recently. I by-passed the Come Out and started with $30 each on the six and eight combined with a $25 Come bet. Come bet traveled to the nine. No odds. Placed another $25 come bet. Come bet traveled to the six. Collected $35 and down on the $30 place bet. No odds. Six rolled again. Off and on for $25. Took $25 odds. Eight rolled. Paid $35. Took the $30 Place bet down. Come bet traveled to the eight. No odds. Ten rolled. Come bet traveled to the ten. No odds. At this point I had four bets up so no more Come bets. Ten rolled again. Collected $25 and down on the Come bet. $25 in the Come. And so it went. Eventually I had odds on every bet and made several hundred on the hand simply because of the higher value of the flat bets involved. Never played a Pass Line bet.

Did you use all of the various qualification criteria of the heat seeker play or just jump in with both feet?
Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
No, I pretty much jumped in. On SOME players I started out with a $25 DP, then $30 six and eight plus a $25 Come.

Good thread /comments everyone.
Heavy states above: "... On SOME players I started out with a $25 DP, then $30 six and eight plus a $25 Come.."
I like that setup--A very solid play. I like that after come out your now tossing for the inner #s: 6,7,8. I prefer to omit the additional come as I seem to do best with a total of two or max of three wagers. Im not against Come wagers--its just that I find the game extremely difficult to defeat consistently when I'm wagering >3 wagers.
One of a couple heatseek-like variants that I typically utilize. My goal is to accelerate one of the two or three wagers for a three or four repeater:
All three wagers are same $. PL $30 and go for repeating 7/11 winners and if it travels to 6 or 8 then place the other for same $30(So total of two wagers in this scenario). If PL travels to non68 then I place 6 AND 8 for $30 too(3wager scenario).
No odds on the PL and full parlay or parlay+ for first three hits on all. Then make a decision on that 4th press as a f(x) of how much Ive penetrated into buyin/ where I am to my >=win goal(typically >=20% of buyin)--"The FIRST time Im at >=20% of buyin even if its 10mins into a session." I prefer to never ever leave a pos session. However, once I hit my win goal I only continue session if I can make two wagers >= Base Unit.
Note: Im willing to risk 100% of buyin with approx 40units. This provides a sufficent # of attempts and I live with the results. I play 4-5 days per week and seldom bust BI--though I do endure some rough sessions at times and start feeling the squeeze. Thats just part of the game/Ive learned to accept it. IMO the main benefit of a two wager(or three) wagering regime like the Heat Seeker is that it allows us to survive mild-moderately neg sessions until we receive that first slightly-better-than-average hand.
I find that two wagers are optimum until a run is presenting and then maybe 3 wagers. This keeps my Buyin closer to zero. We all know most pospros regimes will keep us negative til we get that run. Utilizing only two wagers keeps it close so that a 9-14 hand will often provide the three or four repeating wager needed to hit win goal--and if it goes farther I already have a compounded wager at a higher level and can really swamp my default rates at press one/two.
My parlayed no odds PL will often be the wager generating the >=4th repeater. I really like the hands that start: 7,11,6,6. 7,8 ..etc, where the PL Wager is bouncing back/forth between PL and 6-8.
Continued success,
Tgold

Re: Heavy's 6 and 8 Place to Come Heat Seeker
I've done the DP, but mostly a DC because I prefer waiting past the comeout. DC goes to a number and I follow with a come bet many times hoping for a quick twofer with a seven, but haven't hit the 6 and 8 at the same time. I like that play unless the table has exhibited a few sevens coming fast.
