Place Betting the Six and EIGHT

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Other than the Pass Line, I strongly suspect there is more money lost on place betting the Six and Eight than any other numbers on the layout. Why? Because it seems like everyone who steps up to the table bets them. More money is lost on them because more money is bet on them. Why? Because they're decent bets. So read through this lengthy thread then tell us how YOU think the six and eight should be handled. Inquiring minds and all that . . .

I'm with Heavy on this one for sure. IMO, the best way to play it.

Make your 6&8 place bets for $(whatever your comfort), do a 50% regression, take the next hit, press, take, press, take...you get the idea.

Place the 6 and 8 ; when either hits , take them both down.

Place the 8 & 6. First hit, bring both down. Next shooter, Place the 6 & 8 with the one that hit with a press. Same thing again and again.
Ya never know.

Place the 6 and 8. First hit, bring both down. Give the shooter 5 rolls, if no hit, take both down.

Well, let's toss out a "nut up" kind of strategy for the six or eight. This is a balls-against-the-wall play but what the heck.

You start out by Placing the six and eight for $24 each. You ONLY press the number that hits. Here's the schedule:

Place six and eight for $30 each
Hit one - Press that number to $60 and lock up a whopping $5
Second Hit - Same Number - Press that number to $120 and lock up another $10.
Third Hit - Same Number - Press that number to $240 and lock up another $20. At this point your bet on THIS number is paid for.
Fourth Hit - Same Number - Press to $480 and lock up $40
Fifth Hit - Same Number - Press to $900 and lock up $120
Sixth Hit - Same Number - Press to $1800 and lock up $150
Seventh Hit - Same Number - Drop $300 and press to $4200
Eighth Hit - Same Number - Press to $9000 and lock up $100

Now you're collecting $10,500 on every hit.

This is a tad more aggressive than my current press strategy. I only press every OTHER hit. I start at $18 each on the six and eight and on the first his I drop $3 and press that number to $42. The press schedule from there, as I've explained many times, is:

42 - 90 - 180 - 420 (drop $30) - 900 - 1800 - 4200 (drop 300) - 9000. I guess I like this one better because it requires a lower initial outlay.

Onward through the fog.

I do a slightly more conservative, but similar schedule as Heavy

$30 each on 68
First Hit: drop $1 and regress to $18 each
Second hit: drop $3 and do either:
- If same number, press it to $42
- If different number, press both back to $30

From there I do a collect and press of the following
42, 60, 90, 120, 180, 300, 420, 600, 900...

I am? LOL

When ever I play the PL side it's strictly a 6 & 8 hit and run. I started playing this way 10 years or so ago.

In the Northwest 99% of the shooters are random. When you play our casinos, you are practicing leaving money on the table.

Make your bets, get a hit, get off, then wait for the next shooter.

The next time I play craps after having a pour of Gentleman Jack and a stick of Rocky Patel, I may just make a $12 six and a $12 eight place bet, a hit on either and down ,along with a $10 DC laying single odds ,one loss per shooter.

I may find that I like the DC wager ,just as well if not more than a DP wager, and maybe all players at the craps table will love me for making the right side place bets.

I decided a decade ago never to make any right side wagers but I guess it is time for the times to start a'changin'. I used to only drink beer .

Great way to play Dark Side...yes, a most excellent way to play the RRs, if you feel so inclined to bet on them.

I HATE leaving money on the table! I believe it is the one most single event at the table that turns winners, into losers. I see people constantly giving me the "stupid eye" when I take my bets down early or regress. At that point I may not have a lot of profit but, I DO have my $s back in the rack for another go, PLUS a bit of profit. It adds up fast, trust me.

I return their "stupid eye" with a smile as the SO comes and they are reaching back into their pockets for MORE buy-in $s. I see it nearly every day and my boxman friend confirms it. That is the house in action smiling too, while making back their payout losses. You will NEVER see me reaching back into my pocket for more buy-in. If I get beat, I get beat and that's variance getting me back for the great days.

Playing smart is an art taught on this APC Forum if you read and pay heed to those who share their knowledge. IMO, it all basically boils down to what Heavy says...Get In, Get Up & Get Gone! There are the correct ways to accomplish this and it sure has changed the game to the good for me...

I think 22inside is on the right track here. Getting to the point where you only have $4 invested for a potential $49 hit is powerful. What I have to rethink is whether or not I want to take every other hit or press every hit until I get up to . . . say the $420 area. It's an ever changing process, this betting thing.

This past Sunday I was playing the Don't Pass when I got on this roll. I couldn't seeven-out and rolled a 47 roll hand. In that hand I rolled the 6, 13x's. I didn't bet any of the numbers. I think about all the money I could have made. I was working on the 5th point for the "Craps for Cash but I didn't make it." It sucks to be me.

I've also been thinking lately of how I want to be slightly more aggressive on the press schedule once I get to that $50 for $1 range. I think of the 42, 90, 180, 420 and 900 as "boundary" numbers. $42 is a green chip boundary, $90 as black, $180 as 2 blacks, $420 as purple and $900 as yellow.

So rather than do a collect and press at every single bet in my progression, do a collect and press at the boundary numbers only. For the intermediate numbers (60, 120, 300, 600) take the next hit right to that next boundary number and rack the rest:

42, 42, 60, 90, 90, 120, 180, 180, 300, 420, 420, 600, 900...

Heavy is so right that this betting thing is an every changing process.

Personally, I think I want to get to $90 faster. The solution to that is either to go $18 - $42 - $90 without locking anything up - or to start at $42 instead of $18 and go directly to $90. I'm leaning toward the former. At $90 you could take one hit and collect $105, which puts you plus $84 for the series if my "head math" is working. So from there you could go to $180 (collect $15) and be $99 ahead. Then drop $30 on the next hit and go to $420 and have a guarantee of $69 in the rack. Now you're collecting $500 for $10 on every hit. As for the other numbers on the layout - I'd probably take everything down except the sister to the one I'm pressing. If it went three rolls without hitting I'd take it down as well and just focus on the one I have pressed up. I suspect you'll see something like this from me this weekend.

What I found was that I was getting knocked off more often than not when making the full press leap from 42 to 90. That was when I inserted these intermediate steps into my progression.

I'll probably be playing with the play I posted above this weekend. We should compare notes to see how they work out :)

18$ six, on a win you get 21, drop 5$ and go 44 inside, collect two hits and start pressing.

I was thinking of doing one of my sessions. place the 6/8 for $42, it hits go take it to $48....lock up the $43 so you recouped your initial investment and positive 1....after second hit go to 60, third 90....as your pressing, your locking up a portion of winnings. I m not sure at what point I will regress downward unless its a hot table but after the first hit your positive and every hit after your making money. Only thing I am concern would be having $84 on the table and a quick seven appears.

It's all about comfort level. You'll find out soon enough if $84 at risk initially is too much for you to stomach as there will be plenty of live experience where you will get knocked off 3 or 4 times without collecting.

If you feel the $84 is too much then scale back and build it up the starting point gradually as time progresses over several sessions at the casino. e.g start with 24 on each for a few sessions, then 30, then go to 42.

I like a $42 to $60 to $90 press. $42 straight to $90 is aggressive, so I might make that move if my rack is full and excess chips are in my pockets.

Comfort and where the session is going usually dictates whether I press more aggressively or not.
