It is just dawning on me (yes I can be a bit slow) that in those situations where the dont's look like the option to take is to simply lay against the point and not deal with the Sheriff and his deputy.
Did someone write that down before?? lol

I have had much better success laying numbers than i have with DPs, however if you get knocked off it takes more to recover than if you just lost a flat DP. There is definitely a learning curve to Playing the donts.

I like that 1:1 even-money payout going thru the DP/DC too much to direct Lay the Point. For whatever reason, direct Lays tend to kill me. But that's probably more about my low bankroll than the strategy itself.
