Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
You always look at it as if you were the stickman, or imagine it as you approach a table from behind the stick. On his/her left are the SL positions and SR are on the other side. People tend to talk about up to 3 positions on each side, SR1, SR2, SR3, then you have corner or turn postions, then a couple of straight out postions and finally usually a couple of positions on the turn next to the dealer which is usually referred to as the hook.
It doesn't matter what hand you throw the dice with, stick right is always stick right and vice versa. What does change is your preference for each side depending on what hand you throw the dice with. A classic backhand throw for a right handed shooter will want SL positions and the left handed shooter will want SR. this is in general though and doesn't apply to everybody by any means as it varies depending on your shot, stance, comfort and so on.

Facing the crew, stick right is off the stick persons right shoulder, stick left is off the stick persons left shoulder.tgparker wrote: Here my embarrassing Noob question...
How do I determine Stick Right from Stick Left?
Which direction do I have to be facing?
The hook is the first turn from the stick, straight out is the end of the table and the corner is the inside corner next to the dealer.
If you're at the table and want to know terminology, ask a dealer, most will be more than happy to give you the answer.

Anyone else with any craps knowledge "gaps" they'd like filled in? If you have a question - someone else has the same questions. Which one of you has the cojones to ask it first?

Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
My biggest realization after a couple months of playing semi-regularly is that I am new enough to be familiar with much of the process, at least how things happen and flow at my regular playing location. But after a visit to another casino or two, I realize that I'm still so new to the larger world of craps that I don't even know what I don't know yet.
What I mean is that as I play other places, they're all mentally compared and contrasted to my "home" casino, and I learn as things happen that I haven't experienced before, and would never have thought about until it happened. My "home" casino has no issue with dice not hitting the wall, but other places have had me get reminders that I need to throw so they do. That changes things for me. I've learned that I need to toss differently from different locations around the table, and that other weird, seemingly unrelated factors do make a difference.
I have a comfort level with my bets and making adjustments during the session, but I sometimes forget to tell the dealers to turn my place bets on for a come out when they're hedging a DC. That is a lack of focus.
And I still am mostly a flat betting player. I have not yet delved into the world of pressing and/or regressing.

Rickhelm - I know old veteran players who forget to work their place bets when they have Don't bets they're hedging on the Come Out. Welcome to the club.

Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
My craps knowledge gaps are the payout tricks dealers use to calculate/press bets. I feel I have left money on the table because I do not know how to quickly calculate my action. For example, how much should a $50 horn high yo pay? How about a $25 C&E? I have been parlaying my horn action but confuse myself when the numbers reach higher levels.
I also have a hard time remembering press levels when a hot roll occurs. I tend to stick with easy press schedules 90, 120, 180, 240, etc. I feel there is good money to be made when power pressing at higher levels, but I stick to "press schedules" I know the payouts for.

Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
I struggle with the center table horn/C&E payouts too, mostly because I don't play them enough.
How much a $50 horn high yo pays, depends on which portion of the horn hits. Breaking it down, the horn high yo is the same as $10 bets on 2, 3, 12 and a $20 yo. A hit on the 2 or 12 would pay $300, minus the losing part of the horn high bet ($40) to keep it up, for a net of $260. A hit on the 11 would pay $300, minus the losing portion of the bet ($30) for a net of $270. An ace-deuce would pay $150, minus $40 for a net of $110.
For the press schedules and payouts, it's best to incorporate them into your practice so that they become second nature to you. If you get familiar with the payouts for bet amounts less than $100, then knowing what the payouts are when you get to multiples of them is just a matter of adding zeros to the bet amounts. For example, a $42 6 or 8 pays $49. Thus to get a payout for a $420 6 or 8, just add a zero to the lower payout amount...$490.
FWIW, this also helps with press schedules too. Get a press schedule put together and memorize it up to the point where the numbers start to repeat at a higher multiple. Then just add zeros to the higher presses to continue the sequence.
For example, my 6/8 press schedule starts out with 18 30 42 60 90 120 180. At the 180 level, I start repeating the sequence, by adding a zero to the lower amounts. Thus the press schedule continues as 180 300 420 600 900 1800.

Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
I tend to skip the $30 and go from $18 drop $3 and go to $42, take $50 and regress. From there it goes from $18 back to $42, take $50..then to $90, $180, etc. But I do like the $35 5 and 9 and have been working that situation with BT. With BT I don't feel that tied to 6 and 8 anymore. More towards 8,9, 10..uptown.

22Inside,
Thank you for the nice explanation of horn high yo pays. Very nicely stated. I think it would be best to remember the numbers instead of just remembering the payout concepts for me. My mind spends too much time "calculating" and the game and payouts have moved on.

I don't always do the $30 level either. My progressions don't kick in until after I do a regression. From there, the first hit on a 6 or 8 goes 18 -> 42. The first hit on the sister I go 18-30-42. It's akin to Heavy's dominant number theory. I power press the first one hoping it turns out to be dominant. My next power press level is when the press sequence repeats itself. The first number to hit at 180 goes to 420. The sister number goes 180-300-420. Same if/when I get to the 1800 level in the progression. I do something similar with 5/9 and 4/10.thnick wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 2:30 pm I tend to skip the $30 and go from $18 drop $3 and go to $42, take $50 and regress. Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
If your multiplication skills are good, you can also just think of it as multiples of a base one unit $5 horn high yo, which is $1 on 2-3-12 and $2 yo.skasower wrote: ↑Mon Dec 28, 2020 3:36 pm 22Inside,

2-12: net $26
11: net $27
3: net $11
So a $10 HHY would be 2x those amounts, $15 3x, $50 10x, etc.
Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
Thank you 22Inside, very easy way to remember it. Now, if I could get past my paranoia of instant covid death and get to Las Vegas, I would give this thankless set of bets some play. Like all of us who have learned "rational craps playing" from Heavy, we all (including his Heaviness) can't leave those prop bets alone. What's wrong with us?

Anyone who has ever had an addiction problem of any sort (drug, alcohol, sex) understands it perfectly. Me? I got a triple dose.Heavy, we all (including his Heaviness) can't leave those prop bets alone. What's wrong with us?
The magic of seeing a $1 Aces turn into $30, locking up $25 and pressing it to $5 and seeing it roll back to back is as good as any crack high, Johnny Walker low, or sex with a certified screamer.

Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
If on the first roll you had place bets and had them on before you get a point, in what ways would you lose those bets?
Re: What are your Craps Knowledge Gaps
DAO, if I read your questions correctly that you have your place bets working on the come out, then a come out seven will take them all out. Yo or craps have no effect on working place bets. If the come out hits your place bet number then you will be paid a place bet win. From there you have options depending on if you were tossing the come out or someone else.
