GREETINGS,--is any body on this board, a winner at horse betting? jaime new member on this board. tell me your story. JAIME FROM SUNNY PUERTO RICO. .

I've been fairly successful with the ponies, although it's been a couple of years since I played them. For me, handicapping is a whole lot of work and I don't really trust most of the pro handicappers' opinions. I do have some rules for betting that I got from John Patrick years ago that have served me well.

1. Do not bet large fields.
2. Do not bet low stakes claimers.
3. Do not bet maidens.
4. Bet the best horse, the best trainer, and the best jockey.

That gets you down to one or two races per track - per day, which means you have to go to the pavillion in order to bet tracks across the country. Sometimes I'd be betting Lone Star in Dallas plus one of the quarter horse tracks in Louisiana, one of the tracks in Florida, another in California, etc. in order to spread enough action to make it worthwhile.

Anybody else playing the ponies? Betting them on-line? Approach to betting?

There has not been a Triple Crown Winner since 1978 (Affirmed). I ONLY bet on horses during the Triple Crown Races as long as the same horse won the first two legs.

Here's my full strategy:

I wait for the same horse to win the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Usually this causes the odds on the third race (Belmont Stakes) to be completely out of whack. Then I bet equal amounts on every horse in the Field (Excluding the Favorite). I have done this 4 times and made a profit all 4 times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2008).

My most profitable win was in 2003 when I bet the most $$$. I was very disappointed last year when my betting opportunity was wasted when "I'll Have Another" who won the first two legs of the Triple Crown had to drop out of the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown Attempt with Tendonitis.

Granted it's a small sample size but I don't believe a horse will win the Triple Crown in my lifetime...hoping the opportunities keep on occurring to make my favorite bet.

The most I ever LOST on a single race was around $600. Basically I was parlaying my wins from race to race up until the final race of the day. In that race I had the horse with the best blood lines, best speed record, best jockey, best trainer, and best poll position. I bet him straight up to win plus wheeled him with every other horse in the race. The horse stumbled coming out of the gate, recovered and fell into last place. He moved up to finish fourth and I had some expensive tickets to litter the floor with.

MP GREETINGS. thank you for your information,on mr. wong's book. i down loaded the book. after skiming over the book, it's books like this one-that make players that bet on horse's losers. to much information. why do you think it takes horse betters so much time to handicap a race. to much info. why do you think heavy-gave up on the ponies. to much info. it would take him and every other handicaper hours and hours and hours to handicap. and at the end of the day- they would come up with the favoriate. as i've told you before, i used to make my living betting on horses. you, and everybody else out their, should not take more then five minutes to handicap a race. the secert is the betting. i can teach you mp, and everybody else out their-how to handicap a race in five minutes. also i can teach you how to bet in five minutes. i can teach you, how to spot the horse you are going to bet in that race. people make handicapping hard on themselves. just like in craps-people think to much on how they are going to throw the dice. again, they have to much information. they don't know what info to use when they pick up the dice. it should not take you more then 3 secounds-to pick up the dice and shoot them. that's enough for today mp and heavy. adios. jaime.
