Rather than go through all the rules and probabilities of the game I'm simply going to post a link to the Wizard of Odds 3 Card Poker page. There's a java applet availalbe there where you can practice on-line. I haven't played enough 3 Card to give anyone any advice.

Grrrooooovy,
How do you bet? The ante and pair plus the same or one more than the other? I was told to bet $10 on the ante and $5 on pair plus.Does this sound right?

Keep rolling,
Michael

I play at total rewards casinos
$5 on envy bonus
$5 on pair plus
$20 on ante if you have a pair ie 2 cards that are the same, IE 2H,2D straight or flush or Q-6-4 or higher make the play bet which must equal the ante bet.
I'm a book junkie read Avery Cardoza 3 card poker book all 199 pages.
it will explain 1 in all dealt hands at the table will be a pair for some one at at the table, you have a 90% probability you will make a hand, IE pair, make a hand , beat the dealer if he qualifies or not.If he does not qualify you win on the ante but not on the play
with this method of betting system after 4 hands you just bought in for $200.
you can delete the envy bonus which saves you $5, there has bin 2 >> 1million dollar winners where i play 1>> $100,000... its a quarter after 11

the house has an edge on this game, I would play black jack if i could remember IE optimal play)what not to do and what to do. the house edge on black jack is like 1.5% pretty good odds.
if your cards are showing 10 and the dealers up card is 2 thru 6 what do you do? take a hit stand ,no you double down according to perfect play on all the books I've read
go to ASK>COM and look up perfect play for black jack or what ever game you want to play.
Ive won more that way then jumping in blind.

I, and the Mrs., LOVE three card poker. If the craps tables are going slow, we'll take a break and hit the 5$ table if we can find one. I usually go 5$ ante and 5$ PP. Although, if I see a lot of pairs coming out in other players hands, I may up the PP to 10. That's how I won my first straight flush and 400$ at the Trop, on my 5th hand ever. It may have a house advantage, but I've only went down 3-4 times playing 3-card, and I've sat down at probably 20-30 tables. It's very easy to learn, and has few rules to remember.

Three Card Poker is the only table game that Gail won so much money that they gave her a 1099 at the table.

It was either at SamsTown or Gold Strike years ago--well 7 or 8 years ago.

Talking about 1099s---as we were getting all the stuff together to take to the accountant, Gail commented that she used to get between six to twelve 1099s a year. This past year she only got two.

Every Body knows that the house edge eventually catches up to you if you let it.

Gail`s table games of choice are Let it Ride, Wild Holdem Foldem, and Flop. Look up the money you give to the casino for each hand you play in those games. It`s a lot more than the 7 cents per naked $5 Pass Line or Dont Pass Line wager, we give to the casino on each wager in order to play craps.

Games like Three Card Poker and Let it Ride are essentially "carnival" games that have found their way into the casinos. When Three Card Poker was first introduced back in the 90's the odds were fairly decent - the house edge was something like 2.3%. Once the bean counters got hold of the game, though, they reduced the payout on the Flush to 3 to 1, which effectively raised the house's edge to 7.28%. With that said, like Roulette this is a slow game with lots of "push" or "tie" decisions, so even though the edge is fairly substantial - you don't lose money all that fast. You may still find a casino or two out there that pays 4 to 1 on the Flush (or 6 to 1 on a Straight), but don't count on it. If you DO find that game then by all means feel free to test the waters. If you feel comfortable betting at the green chip level - I recommend it. You comp credits should increase exponentially and again, with the pace at which the game is played you should be okay. Just keep in mind the old "lose three in a row - time to go" saying.

Someday , when I get my gambling bankroll up to a million, I may attack the pair plus with Oscar`s Grind.

I was in Michigan 10 days ago and I noticed a table that paid 4 to 1 on a Flush...This was a first for me...Like you said many casinos pay 3 to 1 for a flush...I keep telling my Daughter not to play this game but she gets enough straight flushes to keep her coming back to this "carnival" game...BTW the casino was Firekeepers in Battle Creek, MI...

For me, The only way to play this game is to play ONLY the PP and here is why.

1. Your money goes three times farther.
2. You are not playing against the house, ever. So you do not have to decide whether your hand will beat the dealer (house).
3. I never look at my cards and have the dealer turn them over so that I am never disappointed at the point of the deal.
4. Winning happens more frequently than you would imagine.
5. $100 goes a long way and the entertainment factor is quite stimulating.

I think I only remember playing this once and seem to remember chips disappearing fast from my buy-in.

Also when you consider the high house edge, it makes sense on those recent figures you referenced from MS casinos that 3 card poke would have such a high hold.

We have this game over here and I always swerve, however I was looking up the regulations and the paytable should be 4/1 on the flush (not 3/1) and 6/1 on the straight. So I think that puts pair plus at about 2.7% and on the ante bet "risk of exposure" which is how Wizard Of Odds likes to analyse house edge on games where more may be added to a starting stake, we are talking 2%. So by no means ridiculous and one of these days I'm going to have to sit down and play over this way.

This is a feast or famine game. The goal is to lose your money slow enough until you hit trips or a straight flush then get out. I play PP most of the time. This is one of my "sit down and take a breather" games.
