how often?

How often do you think a random roller rolls a 50+ roll hand on any given day in any given casino? I'm sure there are many variables, but just a quick guess off the top of your heads would be cool. once a day? twice a day? once a week? thoughts?.....

Harrahs in Tunica had a daily contest where the longest roll of the day won a prize. Every time I was there they had a list of the ten longest rolls and it usual had a full list.

Hi Spiker,
Good question!
To answer properly, we have to narrow your question down a bit.
~You will see a randomly-tossed no-7's-in-50-rolls hand about once every 9114 R-R hands.
~You will see a randomly-tossed 50-rolls ('good' 7's included) hand about once every 1770 R-R hands.
So how long, on average, does that take?
It depends on the number of tables in action, and the number of hands per hour that each table generates.
Let me give you an example.
~We know that the average randomly-tossed hand lasts for about 8.5 start-to-finish tosses. That of course includes everything from the shortest of short PSO hands, all the way to the mega-duration multiple Come-Outs, and many multiples of PL-Point repeater hands as well.
~An 8-player game will average somewhere between 75 to 100 rolls per hour; so let's say 85 rolls-per-hour for argument sake.
~That equates to an average of 10 shooters per hour.
~With only one 8-player/10 shooters-per-hour game in action; you could expect to see one 50-rolls ('good' 7's included) hand about once every 180 hours.
If you have multiple tables in play, and varying rolls/hour rates; then obviously that metric would change.
~With only one 8-player/10 shooters-per-hour game in action; you could expect to see one no-7's-in-50-rolls hand about once every 911 hours.
Again though, if you have multiple tables in play, and varying rolls/hour rates; then obviously that metric would change.

Thanks MP for your calculated expectations for long hands.
My experience is not documented with contemporaneous notes, but just my aging memory and gut feelings.
I am at tables average 8 hours per week, so give or take 400 hours per year for the last 8 years.
According to your numbers, I should expect to see 2 to 3 50-roll-hands per year.
And that is truly what I see. Last year I know I saw two hands that lasted more than an hour, and not counted but assumed that they were each more than 50 tosses. And I'm comfortable that that is similar for all my previous years.
With so many tables recently with bonus Bets, All-Tall-Small, and Fire Bets, plus with prop bets raining in from all sides, the pace on a long hand doesn't get into the 75-100 rolls-per-hour speed, and I've seen it be less than 50.
The long hands are what makes the game the most exciting, it's the only game I play.
But there ain't as many of them as we'd like.
For 2013, I'm a committed Don't Pass bettor, aiming to capitalize on all the shorter hands. So far, so good.

I can't get that way as much as I'd like, but I'll give you a heads-up next time I'll be driving north.
See you soon.
