Big Al's Army March

Setting and influencing the dice roll is just part of the picture. To beat the dice you have to know how to bet the dice. Whether you call it a "system," a "strategy," or just a way to play - this is the place to discuss it.

Big Al's Army March

Post by heavy » Sun Feb 08, 2015 3:05 pm

This play was originally introduced on the forum by a guy who went by the handle "Big Kahn Man." He was a regular for many years, who I suspect has since moved on to that great craps game in the sky. Supposedly the strategy was invented by a Las Vegas dealer who worked at Harrah's. This dealer, known as Big Al, worked the graveyard shift at Harrah’s for many years. At times, in the wee small hours Al would get bored standing around. He and the other dealers would pass the time trying to come up with creative betting strategies, then testing them out in a “mental” game whenever they had a shooter. The Army System came from one of those deep night brainstorm sessions.

The Army System begins with a wager on both the four and the ten, and can be can be mustered out for just $10 in action. All bets are parlayed until the action marches from one end of the layout to the other, at which point the player locks up a $1500 win. Granted, it does not work often – but Al claims he sees the progression work at least once a shift, and that on one occasion he saw it completed three times in forty minutes. Here is the progression:

Begin with $5 each on the four and ten – working on the come out. If and when one of those numbers hits it will pay $9. Drop $1 on the layout and instruct the dealer to move all of your action from the four and ten to the number adjacent to the point that just rolled, either the five or nine. This will give you a total of $20 on one of those numbers. Wait for the next decision.

If and when your point is rolled the dealer will pay you $28. Tell the dealer to take the $28 plus your $20 action on the layout and march it to the six or eight – whichever is next on the layout. You will then have $48 placed on that point.

If and when that point rolls the dealer will pay you $56. Lock up $2 of the win and tell the dealer to take the remaining chips and place the next number up or down the line – either the six or eight – for $102.

When that number rolls the dealer will pay you $119. You lock up $1 and instruct the dealer to march your bets on over to the five or nine, whichever is next in the series. You will have a total of $220 action on the next roll.

When the five or none hit it will pay $308. Lock up $8 and buy the next number in the series – the four or ten – for $500. If the number you bought rolls now you will have completed the Army March and collect $1500 and down.

While this novelty strategy requires a great deal of patience, its low entry level makes it suitable for many players. It can also be a fun side bet to utilize in addition to your standard betting routine.

I thought that was the coolest play when I first read about it. $5 to $1500. I can think back to many hands when that play probably would have played out. I cant remember many sessions where I have left up $1500. Things that make you go hmmm?

The last time I was at the tables I recorded the rolls and one shooter in particular managed to hit all 6 numbers in somewhat of an order, it would not have been straight side to side, and would have managed to run the march for a win twice in the same roll. I wish I had read this play 2 weeks ago.

Saw the same thing Saturday at the Horseshoe in Baltimore! The Pit boss pointed it out. I was winning on the shooter, just wish I knew about this!

Hi Guys

The Big Kahn Man wrote this post asking me a Question. He also wrote down more versions of his Army March. So I thought I should add it to this thread.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

hi bill my name is bob from oregon
how does Grand Victora in Illinois new deal at the craps table work
you wrote your post
They have what they call CASH FOR CRAPS. When you shoot, If you make all the point numbers across the board (4,5,6,8,9,10) You win $4,000!!!!
that sounds like my ARMY SYSTEM that I posted on heavys message broad the casino here in oregon never heard of it in till I started to play it
I hit it 3 times for the casino crew and myself 3 times but we did stop after the 9 came out for a $7 risk we got $408 could have been $1120
does the numbers have to come right in a row or just before the shooter sevens out
or can they come out like this the way I threw the dice
12-8-5-(4)-2-8-9-8-2-(5)-(6)-(8)-11-4-3-5-(9)-10h-9-3-(10)-5-7 out

The original way to play it was to bet BOTH the # 4 and the # 10 for $5 each
after either number came out you tell the dealer to take the number that did not come out and add it to the number that did plus the payoff then add a $1 to it to make it look like $20 and have it moved to the next number like this
$5 on # 4 + $5 on # 10 lets say the # 4 came out
payoff would be $9 + $5 from # 4 + $5 from # 10 that did not come out=$19+$1 added=$20 move to next number which would be # 5
and you would keep moving the numbers to the next number as they came out
like # 4 # 5 # 6 # 8 # 9 # 10
YOU WOULD BE RISKING $5+$5+$1=$11 thru and after the first hit
after the # 6 came out you would take back $2 so your risk would be $9
now and let the $102 ride on next number # 8
then after the # 8 hit you should take back $1 more now risk is $8
and let $220 ride on next number # 9
after # 9 hit YOU HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION EITHER BUY THE # 10 OR JUST PLACE IT
if you buy it take back $3 now you got $5 at risk to TRY make $1500 cause it will cost $25 from your $528 payoff after the # 9 comes out
but if you just place it for $525 taking back $3 you would collect $1470 and you were risking $5

NEXT WAY YOU WILL RISK $7 TO TRY TO COLLECT $1120
after come out place $5 ON EITHER THE # 4 OR # 10
after first hit lets say # 4 + payoff of $9 +$5 add $1 to make it $15 move to next # 5
keep moving numbers up line after they hit
after # 8 you have to add $1 more which gives you a total of $7 at risk
NOW after the # 9 hits you can take back $8 which gives you $1 profit but let the $400 ride on the # 10 for A CHANCE OF HITTING FOR $1120

HERES A GOOD ONE TO TRY
if you like to ONLY BET on three numbers how about this way
(1)st bet # 4 for $11
lets say # 4 wins YOU bet $11 + $19 payoff=$30
MOVE $30 to # 5
(2)nd bet got $30 on # 5
lets say # 5 wins YOU bet $30 + $42 payoff=$72
MOVE $72 to # 6
(3)rd bet got $72 on # 6
lets say # 6 wins YOU bet $72 +$84 payoff=$156
TAKE DOWN ALL $156--$11=$145 profit

OR YOU CAN DO IT THIS WAY TO

PLACE # 5 BET $10 (# 5 WINS) $10+$14=$24
PLACE # 6 BET $24 (# 6 WINS) $28+$24=$52
BUY # 4 COST $2 BET $50 RIDE ON # 4
(# 4 WINS) PAYOFF $100+$50=$150 TAKE ALL DOWN
$150--$10=$140 PROFIT

Here is the post I put on heavys broad
theres a bet I use that cost me $7 total for a chance to collect $1120 if you go all the way you could stop at any point of the bet if you wanted to its called the ARMY SYSTEM basically
you start out betting the #4 and marching up the line to the #10
you let the payoff ride on #4,5,6,8,9,10
doing this would cost you a total of $7 for a jackpot of $1120

but now I improved the method for a $4 dollars more
and after the first number comes out I'm only risking $1 because I get my money back for a chance to collect $1500
here is the method called the
ARMY SYSTEM
make a bet on the #4 (OR) #10 your choices
(1) bet $11 lets say the #4 and it hits (payoff is)
you bet $11+payoff =$19 total $30 NOW TAKE BACK $10
let the $20 ride on #5 (YOUR RISK OUTLAY IS $1)

(2) now you got $20 on the #5 (lets say it hits (payoff is)
$20 divide by 5=4x$7=$28+$20=$48
now let the $48 ride on the #6 (RISK IS STILL $1)

(3)now you got $48 on the #6 lets say it hits (payoff is)
$48 divide by $6=8x$7=$56+$48=$104
(TAKE BACK $2)=$102 (YOU NOW HAVE A $1 PROFIT)
now let the $102 ride on the $8

(4)now you got $102 on the #8 lets say it hits(payoff is) $102 divide by 6=17x$7=$119+$102=$221
(TAKE BACK$1)=$220 (YOU HAVE NOW $2 PROFIT)
now let the $220 ride on the #9

(5)now you got $220 on the #9 lets say it hits(payoff is)
$220 divide by 5=44x$7=$308+$220=$528
NOW YOU HAVE TO DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO QUIT
OR LET IT RIDE BY PLACING THE #10
OR TO BUY THE #10
if you place the ten you can (TAKE BACK $3) AND LET THE $525 RIDE ON THE #10 to go for a jackpot of $1470
$525 divide by 5=105=$9=$945+$525=$1470
OR TAKE BACK $3 FROM THE $528 AND BUY THE #10 for $500 IT WOULD COST YOU $25 TO BUY IT
TO GO FOR A JACKPOT OF $1500
you would make $30 more doing it this way
not a bad way to try to hit a big score with only $1 at risk after the first hit

Army system
here are some ways to try the ARMY SYSTEM for fun
there are alot of ways to play this ARMY SYSTEM
with little money and different version of the way you can bet it
check this out and at the end I will tell you a couple more ways to play it to make a lot of money if you are LUCKY and AT THE TABLE AT THE RIGHT TIME
what you are going to do is TRY to hit 6 numbers before the seven shows up by one or more shooters
you can turn bets off at any time to wait for next shooter to help make numbers
here is the way I choose to play the first number to bet for the ARMY SYSTEM
by the way the number came out from the come out roll in frank scoblete book page79 beat the craps out of the casino
this way I dont have to guess which number to play its automatic made for me and I don't have to think
I let the dice decide for me which number to play its good as any other way
#MADE------- HOW IT WAS MADE-----------PLACE BET
5----------------------4:1------------------------- 10
5----------------------3:2------------------------- 4
6----------------------5:1------------------------- 10
6----------------------3:3------------------------- 4
6----------------------4:2------------------------- 4
8----------------------4:4------------------------- 10
8----------------------6:2------------------------- 10
8----------------------5:3------------------------- 4
9----------------------5:4------------------------- 10
9----------------------6:3------------------------- 4
NOW LETS SAY you buy in then you ( Wait for point to be established )
After that, it's up to you whether you want to work your bet on subsequent come outs or not.
( 1 )st bet
Place $5 on # 10 or # 4 your choice or ( like above shows good as any other way )
First hit brings $9. Collect $4 and step over to the next box number # 9 or # 5, depending on where you started
( 2)nd bet
Place $10 on the # 9 ( or # 5 ) You're basically risking a buck of your "own money" at this point.
Second hit brings $14. Add it to the $10 and step over to the next box number
( 3)rd bet
Place $24 on the # 8 (or # 6 ). You're still risking only a buck from your original buy-in
Third hit brings $28 you can Stop betting if you want to you had $24+ payoff $28=$52 --$1 =$51profit
You've profited $51 from your $1 at risk after first hit
Or...keep going on the Army System
After the third hit, take back $16 and put it in your rail
You're now up $15 on the shooter, and have guaranteed a return on your original $5 bet. ( $52--$16 take back=$36)
( 4)th bet
Place $36 bet over on the next number # 6 (or # 8) still have $1 at risk from original buy-in
A hit brings $42 ( plus $36 = $78 ). Put $28 in your rack and move on over to the # 5 ( or # 9 ). You're up by $43.
( 5)th bet
Place $50 bet on the next number # 5 (or # 9)
A hit pays $70 (plus $50 = $120). take back $20 and put it in your rack. You've got a profit of $63 Go for the kill!
( 6)th bet and final bet
Place 4 (10) for $100.
A hit pays $180+$100= $280 and down. Add the $63 you already racked, and your total take is $343 on your initial $5 wager. but $1 at risk after first hit
NOW I KNOW YOU GOT TO BE LUCKY TO BE AT THE TABLE WHEN ALOT OF NUMBERS HAVE TO BE THROWN but for $1 risk after first hit thats the gamble are you up for it
now a couple otherways to play the system
the original way to play it was to bet BOTH the # 4 and the # 10 for $5 each
after either number came out you tell the dealer to take the number that did not come out and add it to the number that did plus the payoff then add a $1 to it to make it look like $20 and have it moved to the next number like this
$5 on # 4 + $5 on # 10 lets say the # 4 came out
payoff would be $9 + $5 from # 4 + $5 from # 10 that did not come out=$19+$1 added=$20 move to next number which would be # 5
and you would keep moving the numbers to the next number as they came out
like # 4 # 5 # 6 # 8 # 9 # 10
YOU WOULD BE RISKING $5+$5+$1=$11 thru and after the first hit
after the # 6 came out you would take back $2 so your risk would be $9 now and let the $102 ride on next number # 8
then after the # 8 hit you shoud take back $1 more now risk is $8 and let $220 ride on next number # 9
after # 9 hit YOU HAVE TO MAKE A DECISON EITHER BUY THE # 10 OR JUST PLACE IT
if you buy it take back $3 now you got $5 at risk to TRY make $1500 cause it will cost $25 from your $528 payoff after the # 9 comes out
but if you just place it for $525 taking back $3 you would collect $1470 and you were risking $5

NEXT WAY YOU WILL RISK $7 TO TRY TO COLLECT $1120
after come out place $5 ON EITHER THE # 4 OR # 10 or let the way like start of article pick number for you
after first hit lets say # 4 + payoff of $9 +$5 add $1 to make it $15 move to next # 5
keep moving numbers up line after they hit
after # 8 you have to add $1 more which gives you a total of $7 at risk
NOW after the # 9 hits you can take back $8 which gives you $1 profit but let the $400 ride on the # 10 for A CHANCE OF HITTING FOR $1120

HERES A GOOD ONE TO TRY
if you like to ONLY BET on three numbers how about this way
(1)st bet # 4 for $11
lets say # 4 wins YOU bet $11 + $19 payoff=$30
MOVE $30 to # 5
(2)nd bet got $30 on # 5
lets say #5 wins YOU bet $30 + $42 payoff=$72
MOVE $72 to # 6
(3)rd bet got $72 on # 6
lets say #6 wins YOU bet $72 +$84 payoff=$156
TAKE DOWN ALL $156--$11=$145 profit

OR YOU CAN DO IT THIS WAY TO

PLACE #5 BET $10 (#5 WINS) $10+$14=$24
PLACE #6 BET $24 (#6 WINS) $28+$24=$52
BUY #4 COST $2 BET $50 RIDE ON #4
(#4 WINS) PAYOFF $100+$50=$150 TAKE ALL DOWN
$150--$10=$140 PROFIT

Hey DI's,
We did Big Al's Army March on our table last night in our practice session. It work great on Hard10's rolls. He tosses a lot of outside and field numbers. But, when it came to 6 & 8, it was a bit of a grind. We try 6 attempts with both of us tossing and had one successful march on all the numbers. I would definitely incorporated into my betting strategy, but would not use it as my main strategy. Just saying. Thanks Heavy for another good different strategy to the game and $5 Bill for sharing different variations of the strategy. Good Luck at the tables, Vinyl

Good job, Bill. I'm amazed that you still have items like that saved. Feel free to post any of those old articles/e-mail exchanges you have. No doubt all of the guys (and gals) will enjoy it.

Horseshoe: Tables were $15 when I walked in about 3pm, they changed over to $25 at 4pm.

The place is really nice, parking is great, security real good. prices are good. Staff very upbeat and friendly.

They do not have hotel, but there are a couple within walking distance. And you are walking distance to both stadiums.

The dealers are pretty good, Pit Bosses are decent. No trouble setting dice. Clientele is good, I have seen some good rolls.

MD live is still at $25.00

Big Kahn Man's 6 and 8 Press Regression

hi guys try this one out
YOU START OUT RISKING $60
bet $30 EACH on #6 and #8
(1ST HIT) lets say the #6 wins
you ( COLLECT ) payoff is $35 put it in your rack
THEN REGRESS your bets to $18 EACH on #6 AND #8
dealer hands you back $24 you only have $1 at risk

( 2ND HIT ) lets say the #8 wins
you ( collect ) payoff is $21 put it in your rack
THEN REGRESS your bets to $12 EACH on #6 and #8
YOU NOW HAVE COLLECTED $56
dealer hands you back $12

( 3rd hit ) lets say the #8 wins again
you ( collect ) payoff is $14 put it in rack
THEN REGRESS your bets to $6 EACH on #6 and #8
YOU NOW HAVE COLLECTED $70
dealer hands you back #12

( 4 hit ) lets say the #6 wins again
your payoff is $7 put it in rack you then pull your $12 down
YOU WON $77 TOTAL BEFORE THE SEVEN COMES OUT

I like this one and I have a thought on a more achievable March, a Shorter version (Parade March)

If you started with Placing the 5, and/or 9 and only try to March through the Four inside numbers (5, 6, 8, 9) it will likely be a more achievable (while less profitable) March.

If you started with a $10 Place bet on the Five and Nine
- First hit on the 5 pays $14 - Press to $24 and move to the 6 (You could take down your $10 Place 9 or keep it up)
- First hit on the 6 pays $28 - Press to $48 and move to the 8 (rack $4)
- First hit on the 8 pays $56 - Press to $100 and Buy the 9 (drop $1 to cover Vig on Buy when added to the $104)
- First hit on the 9 pays $150 - take everything down for $250 (or $245)
- Could then Place $44 Inside and still have a Profit of $200 with an opportunity to profit with a good hand.

I may have to try this one in practice as I think it is far more realistic to hit the 4 inside numbers vs starting with the 4 or 10. Don't get me wrong it would be exciting to complete the Full March across all 6 box numbers, it's probably a lot harder to achieve.

Just wanted to share what I was thinking on this one. Heavy and $5 Bill thanks for sharing this one.

Help me out on this one please.
What happens if you run the regular “March” as a $10 game?
No 4 or 10 = - $20.
When 4 or 10 hits, move the one that didn’t hit to the box number inside the other and rack $18. The “March” now only costs you $2. Run it as usual thru the 6 and 8. You finally get to $220 on either the 5 or 9. Now here's my problem. I do not know much about lay bets (that’s why I’m asking here) so I’m probably not thinking this out correctly but what happens if you now lay it for $210 as well as place it for $220? Am I correct if you do not hit it you will get $140 + $210 - $220 = + $130 and the march is finished. If you hit the 5 or 9 you will get $220 + $308 - $210 = $318? Now move $300 to the 4 or 10 and also lay it for $300 (I would imagine there is a vig on this bet but I don’t know about that so please make the corrections on this). Vig 5% on payout? So for a $300 lay on the 4 or 10 you’d get paid $150 – $ 8 = $142 + $300 - $300 =+ $142. If you hit the 4 or 10, $600 + $300 - $300 - $15vig =+$585. My thinking is once you get to the $220 range after the 6 and 8 instead of risking everything you can risk about $90 profit for a chance at $585 profit. Once you pass the 6 and 8 you are guaranteed at least $130 profit with the lay betting instead of $0 if you don't get the next number? Good idea or not?
Probably better to go for the 9 or 5, when/if it hits then only move $300 to the last number.
Thanks,

Interesting. And sounds like fun - however it's probably about as likely to happen as a 6 point fire bet.

I'm a tracker - I write down shooters and the numbers they roll. Going through my book - and I got through about 1/4 of the pages, Big Al's Army March would have paid off 3 times. In the meantime, there are a lot of losses to get to those 3 wins.

As has been said in the past - ANY strategy will work some of the time.

It would certainly make for a nice win.

You can always modify this to your own taste. I like to get to the 6 or 8 and then take "same" bet for one or even two hits. Then if the march fails you still have something to show for the effort.

Golfer,
Kind of the way I played it during my last outing but never even thought of same betting. I actually used a “chicken” march play (as opposed to Army March). Get it past the 6 or 8 depending on direction then take it down. I hit it 4 times during the trip. Nice little $200+ each time. I was very confident once it passed the 5 or 9 since I was actually trying to slam the 6 & 8 and was pretty successful during this trip at doing that. Next time if things go as last I will try your “same bet” play.

Just wondering how the March would look as far as rating on comps?

It would basically depend on when the Pit took a look. If you only have $10 on the 4 and 10 when he rated you........no big deal. However if he passed by and took a look when you have marched to a $360 8 or a $500 9, he might be interested.

To generate some positive vibes you might consider capping your original bet with $5 or more for the crew. You let them know that they are in play but you leave the action with yours so it moves along with you. If successful you will make some friends and definitiely get noticed and talked about.

Thanks Golfer,

Would $5 cap for the crew prob be added when and IF you made it to the "6" or "8"?
