Hey All!
I'll be going to Las Vegas very soon...this will be only my second trip out to LV...so I have a few questions:

1. I recently read the old "table condition list" posted at http://www.nextshooter.com/vegas. I realize the article must be a bit out-of-date. But it references "Downtown odds on prop bets" and "strip odds on prop bets". What does this mean/refer to. I know what a proposition bet is...but what are the differences in odds and EVs on between strip and downtown casinos?

2. Which Las Vega casinos offer "pay vig only on win" on buy bets?

There are a lot of different ways of printing the odds on a layout - which complicates things. Also, this is not so prevalent as it once was. The Strip casinos are known for being tighter on comps than the downtown casinos, so that's another factor. Then there's the Field bet, which typically pays double on the 12 on the strip and triple downtown. Downtown is typically 30 to 1 or 15 to 1. Strip is typically 30 for 1 or $15 for $1. But you may see layouts with $31 to $1 and $30 to $1. Translated - most strip casinos pay $1 less on the prop bets than downtown casinos - UNLESS you are playing at a Caesars property - where they'll pay you $2 less on the same bets. Wizard of Odds notes that some properties pay $33 to $1 on bets like the 2 and 12. There's a nice chart on his site on this page that discusses odds on various bets. Scroll down until you find the prop bet section. If the odds don't scare you off on these bets then you probably need to re-think your play. Unless, of course, you are skilled at tossing specific numbers and bet these wagers only on yourself.

Downtown vs Strip odds refers to the amount of the house vig on bets (mostly prop bets), or in other words which casinos pay more or less for certain bets. Generally Strip properties pay the worst, Downtown pays the next worst, and off-strip pays the least worst.

And as long as we're on the subject - Northern Nevada rules differ somewhat from Southern Nevada rules. Northern Nevada rules typically translates to double odds on line bets and come bets. Reno casinos pay 15 to 1 on several proposition bets like “eleven” instead of 15 for 1 (which is 14 to 1). You can also expect to see field wagers pay 2 to 1 on “2” and 3 to 1 on “12” when it rolls.

I am definitely am un-enthusiastic about prop bets...but I occasionally throw a dollar on a prop bet...so I want to know which Las Vegas casinos offer the best odds (best of the worst?). Once in a while, on a come out roll, when betting the DP, I do a three way "hop the sevens" move.

You have to be sure that three-way-sevens wager is booked as a three-way-sevens and not a Big Red bet. Three way sevens that hit pays $16 and down for a $3 bet. A $3 Big Red pays $12.
