Dollar What?

I'm currently at work on an article for the next newsletter called, "What to do with that $1 chip in your rack." Shootitall and I discussed this at length over our monthy BBQ lunch this past Tuesday and came up with some innovative suggestions - none better than SIA's initial call of "Coctail Server." He cited maximum return on investment as he could get a $3 bottle of beer for $1, thereby trebling his investment. Not bad.

I'm going to "stretch" this dollar question a bit for you guys and give you a total of $5 in dollar chips. You can bet them however you wish and make them last as long as you can. We'll waive the table's $5 table minimum and let you play hops, props, etc. however you wish.

Hardways hopping and a dollar Big Red, anyone? LOL. While I'm at it, what's the name of that particular bet?

Have fun with it.

Eso sólo sucede en Puerto Rico o en las Filipinas.

Did I get that right?

I remember reading when the MGM caught on fire years ago, security had a hell of a time trying to get the folks out of the casino. They did not want to leave.

$1 pass, $1 don't pass and hope I last long enough to spend the other $3 on three beers :)

Back in the day when they allowed it regularly I was playing alone with the exception of a guy who was making one dollar fire bets so he could get free drinks at the Rio. Hit 5 points on his third try. He took his $247 profit and vanished.

I'd probably wait for a redheaded server and "accidentally" drop the dollar chip so she had to pick it up with my dollar chips. lol.

I'd go for the hardways if I were the shooter and try for a hardway set. Reload with the last remaining dollar on the first hardway number that gets knocked off. And keep rolling until they are all gone or it's a SO.

Thanks. Got a question on that. There are people that put the extra dollar on the yo, and it's also AFAIK called a Buffalo. If $1 Big Red protects the hop hardways, WTF is the purpose of going yo?

There are several variants of this bet. The Buffalo. The Hopping Buffalo. The Buffalo Yo. Honestly, I think the guys you are talking about just like to hear themselves saying "Buffalo Yo." Typically it's the same guys who toss in an "E.T." on every throw.

Can you summarize the Buffalo bet? I ran into someone playing it once but didn't exactly follow what it was as I was mostly paying attention to the game in progress when I asked them about it.

Typically it's all of the hardways working on the Come Out - plus a $1 Big Red. IF a hardway shows on the Come Out you get paid. If the seven shows it's a "push" since otherwise those working bets would all lose. That's a basic Buffalo.

A "Hopping Buffalo" is all the hardways hopping plus a $1 Big Red. It's sort of a goofy bet since the hop bets come down after one roll, but it does pay better than a regular hardway if it hits. I guess the idea behind the Big Red portion is to keep the bet up for a second shot when the seven shows.

A "Buffalo Yo" bet is all of the hardways plus a $1 Big Red AND a $1 Yo, although some players and dealers go for the hardways plus a Yo and do not bet the Big Red.

In this day and age you may have trouble finding a dealer that even knows what the hell a buffalo bet is.

Yup. it's been awhile and the hardways are all day not hops, as you said, but I swear some dealers set it up, after I dropped a nickle, as all day hard ways plus yo, no red. So someone does that, I just wanted to know the theory behind it. Of course it could be a mindless bet like the jokers who bet high low yo, another bet I have never figured out the meaning of, despite asking dealers aplenty!

Yes...Resorts World Manila, 38 died from smoke inhalation and they don't even offer the Fire Bet. Incidentally, a bit off topic but, they just re-opened almost a month to the day last Friday. Place still smells like smoke and death...

Think I'd try that basic Buffalo bet...

Well, that casino fire was a thread killer. Meanwhile, you've changed casinos and landed at a joint with a .50 cent "bird" game. Yes, you can bet .50 cent props. $1 minimums on the PL and DP. You've won a couple of bucks and are up to $7. What's your play? I'll take $1 on the 5, 6, 8, $1 in the Field, and all the hardways for .50 each. I'll hang onto my last dollar until I see a Horn number - then I'll take my Field winnings and get a $2 Horn.

I think I would honestly have more fun watching you guys call out these exotic bets and seeing the dealers try to handle them than I would making my own wagers.
