So you play DP for at least $100. I know its large but there is a reason.
Yes you could lose it on a CO 7 or 11 but...
Suppose you hit any box number? Now you are GUARANTEED a win!
Just place the same number for a little less so if the 7 comes the don't will
win the difference and if the number comes, the payout will pay more than the loss
on the don't. The best is of course if its a 4 or 10. But here is a scenario for a 5 or 9
For example:
Play $100 on Don't Pass or DC. It travels to a 5. Place the 5 for $80
Now if the 7 shows you win the difference of $20.
If the 5 shows, it pays $112, so you win $12.
A guaranteed win but a killer if a CO 7 or 11 gets you.

Eight ways to lose on the come out versus four ways to win. Two to one against. At the end of the day, all you're doing here is exposing a larger amount of money to the house edge. Let's say you get a $100 Don't bet up on the six, then come in and place the six for $90. You're guaranteed a $5 win or a $10 win at that point. But are you willing to risk $100 to win $5 or $10? Not at two to one against.

If you ever run across a green chip or black chip bettor who is waving off action that will work. You can take his action and make a place bet that will assure a win no matter what the decision is. Otherwise, the risk is too great for the reward as it takes too many won bets to recoup CO losses.
The only other situation where I have done that is if I'm shooting from the don't. I have used a place bet to hedge a DP or DC if I feel I'm not able to produce a 7.

Heavy, You forgot that a 12 on the come out is a push for the DP ; so it is8 ways to lose and only 3 ways to win.
I remember playing this years ago with a $5 DP and placing the point: $6 6 or 8, $5 5 or 9, $5 4 or 10. After one session , I never played that one again . The come out 7 and 11 were killers .
In my opinion , hedges prevent the player from making profit and they slow the pace for losses which are sure to come.
The best way to drain a win into a loss is to use a hedge.

Heavy's Perfect World Casino
How about a $20 Doey/Don't bypassing the CO...shooter tosses a 5
then hedge a $100 DC bet on the DP with $$120 odds, then pray for a no-craps toss... shooter tosses a 9, if SO is a $20 loss, craps is a $100 loss (12 is a push)
take down the $120 DP odds
place the 9 for $80
shooter tosses a 9...$12 profit
shooter tosses a SO...$20 profit
Not how I would play because I don't bet on anyone but myself.
Hey, it's gambling!

If it was me and I was in the mod to gamble I could see the 100 don't on then come out but then I go 96 across after the point was established.

What your not mentioning is the casino loves when you do this. Your risking $100 when your 3-8 underdog. Then, when your a favorite to win $100, you hedge it to win only $20. Casino only has to win 1 of six to break even.
