Got my first taste of the new skill-based slots when they showed up at Route 66 in Albuquerque.

There are two games, I think they are called Cannonbeard and Grab Poker.

The rules and strategy for the two games are quite different, but the central component is that it requires 2-4 players, everyone pays $1. The payout amount for that hand is randomly selected. For two people it's between $1.20 and $60, most often $1.50. One card at a time shows up in the middle of the table and the first person to hit the GRAB button at their station gets the card in their hand.

I played a few times with a friend and it was pretty fun. I'm guessing the vig on the game is around 10% based on how much money was left in everyone's bankroll after playing a while.

I would be interested to hear where else people have seen these games. Anyone seen denominations beyond $1 per play?

Gambit is an interesting company. Founded by a couple of nerds. Total of around a dozen employees. Target market is people who grew up playing Angry Birds and social media games. New game coming out later this year called Into the Dead - a zombie killing game. Caesars apparently likes their games.

Just watching some of the screens in YouTube - I'm not sure how much actual "skill" is involved. Their poker game, for example, looks to me like it's basically a glorified slot machine. I tried looking for more info (specifically copyright filings) on line but had no luck. Problem is there 's a popular game testing software program out there called Gambit that fills up pages and pages of Google when you do a search. Way too much for me to bother wading through at this point.

Regarding the need for skill, the game is more like poker. On any given hand, the house is going to get their vig, but the player who gets the rest is up for grabs. Sometimes all the players need the same card and so it's a matter of who spots the card first and hits the button the fastest. Sometimes there is some strategy about either building your hand so you need different cards than your opponents, or trying to end the game sooner with a less than perfect hand and hoping that you shut out the other players.

But it is interesting how much information is *not* out there. I think the players who are thinking about the game are probably keeping it to themselves, just like any other potential opportunity. It would be interesting to at least crowd-source the availability of the games here, see what all is out there.

I heard there is a strategy to grab any card as fast as you can getting a edge . Im not too sure if that work since it a grab poker. You recieve two cards. If you two card are strong just press the button fast enought. If you card are crappy fold. It might be a the person with the greatest reflex.
