$500 Slot Free Play

I recently moved down south for a job and took a weekend trip to Pearl River Resort. They have sent me a flyer in the mail for $500 in slot free play and I had a couple of questions. The main one being how would you play it. I would say I have played maybe $100 of my own money in slots over all my trips to casinos so $500 in one trip is going to be quite a lot of slot play. Would you suggest trying to go on high denomination machines ($5 maybe) and striking lighting in a bottle or play it through mostly quarter machines with maybe a little dollar play sprinkled in? I had also thought about the video penny slots that seem to be a million lines and are probably the highest volatility option. I have really only ever played 3 line quarter and dollar machines along with VP.
I have seen Heavy say sometimes he likes to look for machines that have paid off recently and playing a few spins and seeing what happens. Is it any type of payout at all? Or is it better to look for a larger payout? For reference Pear River Resort has a decent amount of options in terms of slots (or so it seemed when I walked the property) so if there are any machines you would recommended as usually being set towards higher payouts I would be open to those also. It is an Indian Casino so I am guessing the payouts are set pretty low overall. This was the first casino I visited when moving and I assumed since it was Mississippi the vig would be on the win on the 4/10. I assumed wrong. I also saw quite a few double deck 6:5 blackjack games with 15-25 min. Anything under a $100 min was with the shuffle machines that I saw. In a state like Mississippi which is known for having better rules for the players it surprised me the Indian casino didn't seem to really be competing with casinos elsewhere in the state. The poker room is pretty nice and the 1/3NLH has a deeper buy in at $500 or half the big stack which I enjoy. The only other game I have seen them spread is 3-6 LH.
I appreciate any input.

Pearl River Resort offers two casinos :
Golden Moon and Silver Star....plus Dancing Rabbit Golf Course....
Various A P C board members have had an ongoing LOVE / HATE relationship with the place....
$500 Slot Free play as was said by folks working in the ship yard
"Draws a lot of water "
Silver Star has about 12 Video Poker machines in an ocean of many many slot machines..
Four (4) on the LONG Measure 14 foot Craps Tables and two Roulette Tables based on our recent visit about ten days back.....
...
Golden Moon has two Roulette Tables
( seemly LONG MEASURE 14' and two Craps Tables )
The Golden Moon seems to have way lots of slots and my perception is perhaps a few more V P than the Silver Star across the street (Hwy 16).
( Any number of table games and location is subject to the most recent whim
of furniture moving / relocating de sure )
Not much into the slots.....
........There were several APC board members who experienced playing the machines
at both Pearl River casinos....Have not seen many post about their P R adventures recently...
.
The Bride and I have some business that brings us to the Choctaw, Neshoba County ,Mississippi tomorrow Saturday 09/30/2017 early Sunday October 1 ,2017..
..After the business is completed,we plan to take a room and over night at Pearl River Resort
prior to returning to our home place Sunday morning..
....If we play any at all ,the session will be short and most probably
craps or Roulette.......
Be neat if you can pocket some percentage of the $500 Free Play to
play your favorite Table games......
Welcome to the frontier settler .
It is an adventure to we outsiders...
just me saying

Thank you very much for the input WC. I visited the first weekend I was in Alabama and it was one of the more strange casino visits I've had. I have been playing much more poker recently as apposed to craps. I played some craps and roulette when I was there last time as well as about 3 shoes of BJ. I only played in the Golden Moon side since that is where the poker room is and they only had two tables craps tables open with a third empty. One was at five and one at $10 no matter how busy either got or didn't get. Until I started playing on the $10 table by myself about 8pm it was completely empty. The $5 table has no bonus bets and the $10 had the ATS. They both seemed bouncy.
Since the $10 table was so slow it wasn't hard for the dealers to keep up but I went and played SIA's OHCM on the $5 table and I seemed like every third roll they messed up a payout or forgot to pay someone or paid the wrong person. You get the idea. I don't know if the age to work in a casino is different since its an Indian joint but one of the dealers easily looked like he was maybe 15. I also wasn't overly impressed on how the pit handled a couple of drunk players at the table. Despite the TV set up in the poker room not being ideal and limited game selection the 1/3 NLH game runs deep and has good action.
I looked up the VP machines offered and the only real option is $1 DDB which I don't really know the strategy for and am not interested in learning simply for this. I guess it comes down to trying to go the high volatility route and swinging for the fences or trying to play something where I am not going to get a ton back but at least it will be a little something. If I played say $200 through quarters, $200 through dollar machines, and maybe $100 in multi line or higher denomination roughly how long do you think that would last? Assuming the quarter and dollar machines are 3 credit max bet machines.

I won a $1,000 in free slot play in a Lotto drawing they have at my casino about a year and a half ago plus a $400 and a few $40 ones. The way I play the free slot play is to go to the $1 single line 3 wheel slots. Take for instance the $1,000 free slot play. I decided that I would put $1 in at a time. That would give me a 1,00 spins. I figured that I should win something. When I find the machine that I like I spin the slot machine for 25 spins. If I win anything then I play it for 25 more spins. If I don't win in a particular slot then I would move on and fine another $1 slot machine. I like the triple Diamond slots but I have won on others too. Anyway after a 1,000 spins, I convert my $1,000 in free slot play into $1,024 in cash. I know I wrote up a trip report about it some where on my blog "ENDING UP WITH a WIN" but I couldn't find it. I know it's there some where.

I have read your whole thread so I am sure I have read it and now that you say that I think I remember it. The Triple Diamond was one I had thought about trying a majority of it in since I have heard they are popular. I would be happy to walk out with half of the free play so if I can walk away with a little more I would be ecstatic. Are 3 credit single line quarter machines even a thing anymore or will quarters be more credits per spin normally?

Depends what you want out of it I guess - options in terms of risk/volatility I would look at:
1. 9 line $5 machine. 11 pulls for $45 and see how you go in search for a lightning strike
2. $5 machine, 1,2 or 3 credits. Still a good chance of a decent hit.
3. $1 machine, 1,2 or 3 credits. May get a big hit but fair chance of grinding out a few small wins and coming out close to $500 real money.
4. VP for for dollars or quarters. The most likely way you will realise a return close to the $500 you have been given.

Thank you very much London Shooter. The only VP machines that VP2free had was $1 DDB with a payback percentage of 97.87%. The only VP I remotely know how to play is JOB since I have played it some. What payback percentage would a typical bad JOB machine have? I am guessing if they aren't listed there the paytables are going to be similar regardless if I play 25c or $1

Running it through old school machines like double diamond and Triple diamond games that aren't a progressive or bonus game is a good choice.
Make sure you ask questions before you start as most places any more once you load the free play into the machine you have to play it off on that machine. You can hit the cashout button each time you win something if you don't want to keep track in your head. It'll print a ticket for what you won and leave the free play in the machine.
The higher the denom the lower the house hold. You'll be better off playing one dollar in a dollar machine than playing multiple credits in a quarter machine.

Hi guys, I'm at the boat and I just won the drawing. I won $1,000 in free slot play. Then I have to come back at 8 o'clock tonight for a chance to win a brand new car. At the 8 o'clock drawing there will be 21 entries. So my chances of winning are 1 in 21. Prayers are needed for this win. I need a new car. I'll let you know what happened later on.

Well 8 o'clock rolled around and I was tired. I had been playing the slots with my free play. My strategy was to play the $1 three wheel slots and go 25 pulls. If I was only making a couple of dollars then I would find a different machine. The biggest win I had on 25 pulls was $100. So I went another 25 pulls but didn't get nothing. So far I have won $361. I still have about $600 - $700 free slot play left.
Anyway the drawing for the 2016 Ford Fusion was about to start. My name along with 20 other people were in the small clear plastic drum. I noticed that 3 of the people had bent the entry card on the corners. Of course the security guard picked all three of those. I knew they weren't mind. I didn't get picked. They picked 5 entries all together for the final drawing. They had another small plastic barrel with small blue plastic tubes that had a piece of paper inside. 4 of them said that you won $100 in free slot play and the 5th blue tube said 2016 Ford Fusion. The final 5 people were up on the stage when they opened the blue tubes. One of the guys won the car. In fact he was last to pick out of the barrel. There was only one tube left. When he opened it he didn't even get excited. I probably would have broken down with tears of happiness.
I came sooo close to winning a new car. But I still won a $1,000 in free slot play which I am trying to convert into a $1,000 in cash. Oh, and I did play at the craps table before the drawing even started. I was playing the Don't on a half empty $5 table. Then just before the 4 o'clock drawing they raised it to a $10 table. That's when I picked up my $40 win and left to go to the drawing.
Up for the day in Craps and slot play +$401 in cash. Not counting all the free slot play I have left.

FREE SLOT PLAY UPDATE
Sunday Oct 11, 2015 6:30pm
I gotta update you on what happened today with the rest of the free play I had left.
I went to the casino early this afternoon. It felt so cool knowing that I wouldn't have to put any of my own money at risk today. It was all the rest of the free slot play that I was going to use. The only time I play the slots is when I get the free slot play stuff from the casino. I had between $600 - $700 free play left over from yesterday. My goal was to convert my $1,000 free slot play credit into $1,000 in cash. So just like I did yesterday, I looked for the $1 three wheel slot machines. I would spin the slot 25 times. If I was only winning a couple of bucks, I would find another machine to play on. But if I thought it was a hot machine, I would run another 25 spins though it. I found later that once I had a good win after the first 25 spins that, that was it. I never made anything after the first 25 spins.
The biggest win I had on $1 was on some machine that I can't even remember the name of. I spun it and 3 purple 7's came up. One of the 7's had a Triple sign on it. That paid me $240.
I was having a ball winning all this money.
Yesterday I made $361 on the slots
Today I made $663 on the slots
I had converted all of my $1,000 free slot play into $1024 in cash. That was my goal from the start. I didn't win the 2016 Ford Fusion as much as I Really Needed it but at least I made some money.
Up for the month +$1,087

I played on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday winning them all, well except Saturday. Saturday was the Lucky Lotto Drawing. I got there 15 minutes before drawing and bought in for $300. I was playing the Don’t Pass and the Don’t Come. At noon they read off 6 numbers. I had 3 of them which meant that I had won $400 in Free Slot play. I was thrilled. I went up and gave my name to the girl. She said that it would take about an hour to an hour and a half for them to put my $400 Free Slot play in the system. So I went back to my $10 table and played some craps. I started going down from the start. “Why didn’t I just take a break from the craps table and just wait around until I could play the slots,” I said to myself when I got home that night. I got so involved trying to get my money back at the table that I forgot about my free slot play. I played for a few hours. I had a long roll losing $90 and then this girl got on a roll. I thought that the 7 would show up around roll 20 but she knocked me off my No 10. She kept rolling and rolling and I kept going out there on the Don’t Come thinking the 7 had to show up at any second. Well it didn’t. She was tossing the dice over hand. The only 7 that showed up was the one at the end of what I would guess was a 50 roll hand or more. Yeah that did it for me. I lost -$300 at the table. I was really upset with myself. I haven’t done that kind of betting in a long time.
Then I remembered that I had $400 in free slot play. I wondered how much of my $300 craps table lost I could get back on the slots. I played the $1 slots at $1 a pull. That gave me 400 pulls. I didn’t win any really big wins but after playing all the different $1 slots, I managed to win +$407 on the slots. But I was so pissed at myself for going back and losing my $300 at the craps table in the beginning when I first found out that I had won the Free Slot credits. Anyway at the end of the day I walked out of the casino with a profit of +$107.

After lunch, I went back in the casino to use the $40 in free slot play that I had won in the Lotto drawing. I turned the $40 into $34 in cash.

They had the Lotto Drawing today and I won 2 of the 6 numbers. That gave me a win of $40 in free slot play. I played craps after that and made my win goal of +$50 and got a free buffet from the pit boss. I was starving. After I ate, I went back on the boat to play the $40 in free slot play that I had won at the drawing. I stopped at this $1, 3 line Triple Diamond slot machine.
I played $1 at a time so I could get 40 spins out of it. I got lucky and I was thrilled when it hit on “Single bar, Triple, Triple” I cashed out and went to another machine and made a couple of Dollars. In the end I had turned my free slot play into $100 in cash.

HoosierDice - looks like the lowest return JOB listed per casino on vp2free is 8/6 which is 98.39%. Given there are no games of that pay table, then you are looking out for 8/5 or 7/5 but also there is a lot of 6/5 around these days (95%) which seems the game of choice these days on Vegas bar tops certainly
As for strategy, there is a really good article on wizard of odds which talks about the cost of using VP strategies on the wrong game e.g using JOB play on DDB. Actually the results are not as bad as you may think, given plenty of games are essentially just small changes to the standard JOB plays. So using JOB on DDB with the 97.87 pay table you quote only takes the return down to 97.51% So in this respect the effect is negligible. I guess though much depends on if you know perfect JOB strategy.......if not then the cost will add up depending on what type of errors made
I found it to be an excellent read - have a look if this kind of thing is of interest:
