I too enjoy playing the horses. Tell us what exactly an "overlay" is and how to capitalize on it. Then give us four or five solid tips on how to pick the winning pony.

Saw this post and had to comment. So..the number 3 horse in the first at Acqueduct has the right jockey, great trainer, runs terrific in the mud (and it's raining like Noah's ark should be worried), has a favorable post position AND
ran his last race like 3,2,1, 1 by a length. In other words he closed like a fucking slammed door. Yet the odds on this horse are 9-2. We don't ask why. The reasons are dark and mysterious, but we must include this horse in our exacta, right? Also..Another way is to look for what are called "Underlays". This is a horse that is going off at 2-1..or3-5..that looks the "favorite", but is, in reality, a dog. Handicapping is the only way to find these..and you'll find the dogs more often than the overlays. Basically look at the last race, the horse he raced against. Did the "favorite" close or just get tired. You throw these "favorites" out of your exacta. Used to do this all the time when I lived in Connecticut and had OTB.

How do you make money on the horses when betting into pools over your way as you can never be too sure what price you are going to get?

The joy of para-mutual betting. Nick - I'm all over the horse with the best jockey and the best trainer. Screw the odds. With that said, I almost always take a look at the horses in the paddock before making a final decision. Just looking for a sign.
I like John Patrick's approach to picking ponies. No large fields. No maidens. No low stakes claimers. Using those guidelines - pick the best horse with the best jockey and the best trainer. THAT means at any given track you may find one or two races a day you can bet on. And THAT means you have to go to the OTB pavillion (or wherever you bet off track) and expand your horizons. When I was betting regularly I'd look at every track in the country that was running, including the major quarter horse and trotters. Usually I'd end up with eight or ten bets for the day. And it was a pain in the ass to go through all of the charts, racing forms, etc. to come up with your final decisions. Much as I enjoyed it - I'd rather watch moss grow.
Now dog races . . .

Okay, back to the first post in this thread. Jaime - how do you pick a winner? How to you pick the daily double? How do you pick a trifecta? Give me winners.

Why everyone knows that the horse with the Irish sounding name is the winner. At least that's how my folks pick their horses when they go to the track. If there's three horses that have Irish sounding names, they bet the trifecta. Two, exacta, etc.
Sláinte.

I just read a report which details that here in the UK in 2017 pool/pari mutuel accounts for only 1% of the gross gambling yield in the country. Not surprising given the other ways we can bet, and especially given there are at least 4 other major ways of backing a horse in a race at a guaranteed price - with bookmakers on course, in betting shops on the high street, with bookmakers online and with betting exchanges online.
The report also details that takeout from the pool/pari mutuel betting jumped to 19.25% which was up from 16.5% the previous year. That's more vig on average than the "Any 7" sucker bet on the craps table.
What's the general percentage takeout from the betting pools on horse racing in the States?

Heavy anybody that gives you a tip is a loser.
I will give you the best kept secert in horse racing, only play a horse that had a Iregular
race in his last staet
please google horse had an IREGULAR RACE last start.
Play on that horse 200 dollars to win AND WHEEL that horse in the exacta to come in the place postion
And then play 400 dollars to show to cover your WIN AND EXACTA BET.
PLEASE wait 2 minutes to post time before you make your bets.
Heavy to answer your question, a overlay horse is a horse that is paying more then it should to WIN jaime.

Hey Jaime,
First off I hope you are well and everything has returned to normal for you in Puerto Rico.
Is the above information available in the daily racing form, if not how do you know which horse raced an irregular race. Must you watch a lot of TVG ( horse racing network on cable.)
Also, have you beat the ponies with this method and how many races do you find to wager on in an average week or month. What tracks do you usually play. Thanks!

Good morning Kraps novice,
Yes . the racing form gives you about the last eight races that horse had. ANDyou can practce on those racces
every is normal for me and family .
but their are about 2 million people with out any lights or water.
Back to normal will take about 20 years
TVG will not give you any info on handicapping the ponnies.
YES. i did beat the ponnies for 30 years.
BUT; I MADE MY MONEY on the Silver market and IPO MARKET.
Also the ponnies. Bank roll to play at race track...100;000 thousand and stock market 1, 000,000 million dollars to be on the inside
Good luck my friend. jaime

I play a few times a month. Honestly overall I am a loser but this year I have made a little money, and by a little I am prob up 600 - 700. If I win between 50 - 100 I leave and if I lose 150 I leave. I am no DI and do to life and it's circumstances I do not have the time to devote to DI at this time. In the future I hope to take a class. I play DP or SIA's game this year and it has been okk.
Do you still play craps, Jamie? If so are you up overall.
Hope all is good.
