Your Iron Cross Strategy?

Ok guys, how do you bet or transition into the Iron Cross ?

Around here it's all $10 tables. So what I do is go for $44 inside. On the first hit, 6 & 8 go up a unit. 2nd hit 5 goes up a unit. Once 5, 6, and 8, are at three units each, the 9 drops down and goes to the Field and I add $2 to it. A Field hit will go to both 6 & 8 going up a unit. Hence the $12 Field. If the 5, 6, or 8 hits, I'll reload the field and rack the $9 or sometimes up the hitting number a unit.

I'll try to get the 5, 6 , and 8 to the $50 for $1 status using natural hits or Field Bet hits before transitioning over and doing Place bets on the 4, 9 and 10. Once it gets to that stage anything goes in terms of collecting and pressing.

Or if I'm not feeling it and am in conservative mode, two hits and down. Just me.

I long time a go I played this and did well. I started off with $10 5 $12 6 $12 8 and $7 field. I would progress from there but not until at the new level I could withstand two consecutive PSO and still walk with a profit. I would stay up for two rolls and down. Since the next progression would be $15 5 $18 6 $18 8 and $10 field($61 total), I would not progress to this until I had $125, or about 18 rolls. The first stage was brutal, but after you got past it the progression increased quickly.

Once I got up to $35 5 $42 6 and 8 and $25 field. I remember someone shooting a twelve and getting two green chips!

I've used it too. It seems like a cheap way to hit all the numbers until you get nailed by the 7. I think Heavy or someone has worked out the "get back to even after being hit" amt you have to make. If you play an $18 6 and 8, $10 5 and field you've got $56 bucks in play. A field hit is only $10 and then a seven out you're down $46 fast. I played with more separation between the numbers and the field. I did $30 6 and 8 ignored the 5 and went $10 field. One hit on the 6 or 8 I had $25 bucks and down! Fast! I saw a guy when I first started win over and over with it. Variance was shining on him that day.

Ditto here. I can't remember the last time I made a field bet. There used to be an old pit critter thought who'd always say "One roll in the field?" when I colored in.

My strategy is 6&8 for 18. Field 10. First hit take 5-9 for 10 and down the field...only when My 6&8’s have a tendency not to show.

Triple on the 12 and it may get the occasional interest from me. Double pay only on the 12 and I'd rather play roulette where for about the same house edge, the decisions go much more slowly and you get to sit down :)

Pappy,

I just looked at the results from my last trip. If I would of played a World Bet, after seeing a horn it would of won 100% of the time.

I was going to post the same thing. The field bets kill you especially when you or someone else is hitting the 6&8. Think about the field 4 of the most likely 5 numbers on the table are losers. Don't do it.

Okay guys. I thought I'd revive this Iron Cross discussion in light of some updates I've run across on how people are playing it these days. I kind of like these approaches so I thought I'd mention them.

1. First of all - ONLY play the Iron Cross on layouts that Triple the Field on the 12 (or 2 in AC and a few outlying markets).

2. Next, instead of PLACING the Five to cover that gap in the non-field numbers, we're going to HOP the Five on a $15 Game for $2. A $2 Hop Fives will pay $16 and down in most markets - $15 and down on some tables where they rip you off for an extra dollar (like Caesars).

3. You will only play the Iron Cross for short spurts, using the payoffs on the bets to populate number you do not have bets on already. Your initial Place Bets are on the Six and Eight Only for $24 to $30. $30 is the Preferred Bet Size.

4. Your action will consist of $30 each on the Six and Eight, $15 in the Field, $2 Hopping Fives. If the Six or Eight roll you will win $35 minus the $15 in the field and the $2 Hop bet - net win $18. If the Five rolls you will win $15 or $16 and down and lose $15 in the Field - essentially a push or tie. If any Field Number wins you will win $15 and will Place a number you do not have. The First number you will Place will be the Five.

5. At this point you will continue to play the traditional Iron Cross with $15 in the Field. On the next Field Win you will Press the Five to $20 an drop $1 and press the Six and Eight to $36. From this point on continue to make $15 Field Bets until all of the Box Numbers are populated with $15 bets. Collect all winning Place Bets and rack the wins.

Thoughts?

Heavy during my last trip to the Beau Rivage a guy bought in for $35,000.Placed the 6/8 for $240 each,$100 on the 5,$35 on the field. Every time the field hit he would move the winnings to the number that hit;if a craps number hit he just collected. After collecting twice on the 5,6,8 he would start pressing it 50%.After all numbers were covered he would stop playing the field.Everybody was hacked off because the way he played did not warrant such a large buy-in .The chips took up 2 spots.
A dealer told me last year a guy bought in for $4000;only played the field;walked off his table with $100 k;next day his streak continued and left the casino with $800 k.It was his time.

I'd rather bet across + horn at the $302 total bet level for two box number hits, then cut my bets in half to leave me only about $50 exposure after regressing. My first across hit at regressed levels will finish paying for all my regressed bets.

$302: $35b 4/10, $50 5/9. $60 6/8, $8 horn 2 box number hits, then regress to $166
$166: $25b 4/10, $25 5//9, $30 6/8, $4 horn
$90: $10 4/10, $15 5/9, $18 6/8, $4 horn

Quick, without looking it up. Who among you can tell me what percentage of the time you will get two box number hits before the seven shows in a random game? I'll help you a little. 36 possible combinations of the dice. 24 are box numbers 4 - 10. 12 are not box numbers. 6 of those 12 are sevens, which end the game and hand. Solve for the X%.

Note, I'm not asking for how many ROLLS the average shooter will get in before he makes his point or sevens out (his hand). I'm asking for how many box numbers he will hit before the seven shows. The average hand is around 8.5 rolls, which means his typical range is anywhere from 2 rolls to 17. Numbers, numbers, numbers. My brain hurts already.

Anyone ever think of Laying the 5 in the Iron Cross. I saw this on a youtube video. -You know the internet encyclopedia of truth and reality. Anyway, sort of made sense as then any number that hits wins with 5 being the loser vs the 7?

I'm sure the YouTuber is now rich beyond his/her dreams and too busy on a yacht in Monaco to provide updates. I prefer to hop the 5 when I'm shooting, its a cheaper hedge, DN8R

2nd nickel on this and starting it here in case Heavy wants to move it at the risk of hijacking this thread......

I like the Darth Field Progression better than the Iron Cross, especially when it involves a known cadre of shooters using horn or field heavy sets sniping after the ATS. Sometimes they roll long strings of fields. Since the field is a one roll event, this is not for everyone, however when the shooter is doing GWAG or a known ATS sniper, or you know they are using a horn set, this can get interesting.

For a $15 table, I start with a $15 Field and use my horn set for GWAG, if I make a 5, 6, 8 for a point, I stick with the horn set (it's 11 & 12 rich), place a $20 horn, hop the 5s, and for extra fun add a $15 Come. Rooting for a Yo. Or a 12, lol. If another field hits, I keep $15 (pay back for the original bet) and press the existing Field bet to $25. If next hit is a field, , take $20, press - now its a FREE BET. Like Heavy said its beautiful when its 3x for a 12. Or you have a shooter that hammers fields. I'm sure we'll see this on YouTube next week, just remember you saw it here first on Heavy's APC Forum!!

DN8R

PS Last summer Bankerdude had 9 fields in a row at the Palms, the sixth field was a 12...... :)

So maybe we should call it the Bankerdude Field Progression.....
