your personal craps rules

This is probably an old topic, but I'm interested in your rules for play starting when you enter the casino and get to the table. Do you watch for bounce or what is happening on the layout regarding bets or in racks? Do you play randies based on some rules? How do you bet when you get the dice first time? Do you go all in right away? Wait for two throws? How about the don'ts. How long do you leave up a no 10? Do you let ride through the roll or do you pull it down after points are starting to be made? I have my rules and have expressed them before, but I'm always a student and I steal ideas well.

The most important thing is table population. Three or more out the door. SR1 or SL1 available, prefer SL1. Wait for current shooter for a decision. Then a minimum 6&8. Wait for two hits then expand with a come bet or two.

I agree with House of Orange, the only difference for me is I just do a pass line bet to get the feel of the table......no randies unless someone cannot get past 3 or 4 throws, then i may lay the point, or a pass line bet with the shooter prior to me.

Getting up so you can be at your first strike between 3 & 5 AM should be a gimme.

When I first get in the casino I go straight to the restroom, wash my hands and run warm water over them to help limber them up.

Go to table and pick my spot. I like SR 2 or 2.5 or SL 2.
I then ck to see if I know anyone there while checking the chip stacks people have.

I know how I’m going to bet on the ones I know, Pl / just 6 & 8 or Dp.
On the ones I don’t know I might not bet at all the first time or my play a OHCM.
Often times I bet an 18.00 6 & 8 and regress to 12 each after they hit, up an out from there.

On myself, on a table I know.
5 on the PL , 4.00 horn and 5 in the field using the X6s, I get a lot of horns with this set.
If I hit a horn I press th 12:. After point switch to 3v betting 80 85 inside, one hit regress to 44 inside, next hit add odds to pass line, up one and collect from there, adding more odds as numbers hit.

Money coming on table while I’m shooting/ turn me off.
Hands coming out / turn me off.

When I make the point on the next come out I up my odds.

When done shooting, most of the time take a smoke break to kill some time while the dice come around.

Since I can't shoot any more, a function of age and physical deterioration, any table is fine with me as I use my OH-CM, I am one roll away from the trend either hot or cold, makes no difference to me. But the best thing I do is leave my ego at the door. That was the hardest thing for me to ever do. "He CAN'T do xxxxxx again!! Yes, he can.

Do you watch for bounce or what is happening on the layout regarding bets or in racks?
I most always play on very familiar tables but, if I'm at a new to me table, I ALWAYS look for the trampoline factor. If it's there, I just refuse to toss. In regards to bets on the layout or rack worth, I could care less. A fool and his money are generally soon parted, so bet amounts are meaningless to me. I won't say that I don't glance at the racks upon occasion but, that never tells me how many times they have bought in either.

Do you play randies based on some rules?
The old Shootitall OHCM comes to mind but, historically for me, it's been a losing proposition overall. I'll usually watch one round around the table. If the randies appear to be faltering (which really doesn't mean much, they're all independent trials), I'll start playing the DP with my "Target Betting" 4 level neg-progression. THAT, historically, seems to work very well with randies!

How do you bet when you get the dice first time? Do you go all in right away? Wait for two throws?
OHCM betting. I can usually tell if I'm ON or OFF with one turn at the dice unless, it's a PSO. Then I'll give it a second try. From there, if it's an ON, I am all in even WOTCO. I hate to miss a thing!

How about the don'ts.
DP with my "Target Betting" 4 level neg-progression. Works nearly flawlessly at a non-DI randies table!

How long do you leave up a no 10? Do you let ride through the roll or do you pull it down after points are starting to be made?
That's a damn good question Nick and forced me to think about that one! I suppose historically, I have just left it, or a No 4, just hanging out there until I Win or get beat. I will say for some reason, it seems the longer it stays out, I usually get beat (except maybe on a CO 7). Maybe that is confirmation bias too.

Haha...OK...here it goes. When I walk in the casino door, the game face goes ON first thing...99% of the time. I am at the office and it's time to go to work. It's NOT party time, it's not maybe I'll get lucky time, it's not a hope and a prayer time, it's not a popularity contest nor even a social event. It's WINNING time! I can party and have an ice cream social AFTER I cash in the Winnings! Also, conditions must be right and meet MY expectations or I just walk away for another day. I practice for this! Why force it?

You know, I've read Heavy and others saying this over and over again about people expecting to lose or saying things to that effect in the casino. Hogwash! I have a huge expectation and mindset anymore when walking into the casino. It's my armor so to speak. My last 24 casino trips (mainly Baccarat) should prove this. This has all been since I lost my ENTIRE BR before with a lackluster attitude/mindset/experience. Make no mistake, when you walk in the door, your mental state sets the stage for what happens next. I find it relaxing and confidence building actually.

Personal rules...always a great topic of conversation.

I tend not to leave my no bets up for long. If the seven doesn't show up in 3 or 4 rolls and numbers around them are being hit, I pull them. I don't like waiting. Anyway all good answers here. Damn if I don't encounter randies who throw monsters for some reason! That's why I look for trash numbers showing up. A gamblers fallacy, probably, but to me it can indicate a deterioration of a roll especially if a shooter is hitting inside repeaters.

Do not play craps if you are tired.

I think many will find a correlation between losing and being tired.
If you haven't figured that out, you will unfortunately in time.
If your muscles are fatigued from snow shoveling or working out at the gym or if you do strenuous work all day long...
Go to the tables when you are feeling physically better and mentally sharp and alert.
The small nuances that we must pay attention are missed due to laziness starting to set in.
It boggles my mind seeing bleary eyed DI's thinking they can scratch out a win after being on their feet for 8 hours.

(TODAY I WILL WIN)...Absolutely! I expect to Win with my play methods/betting strategies.

I must say I strongly agree. Probably best to just take em down.

Interesting thread worth a bump IMHO. Let's hear your personal craps rules. I'd like to hear from some of you guys who have not posted in awhile - or at all . . .

Have to interject here re: Stingray's "do not play craps if you are tired." ALSO..do not play if you are pre-occupied with something else such as an obligation. Anything that prevents you from being free and clear while you're playing will screw with your toss number one. I can vouch for this.

Agree with both thnick AND stingray. Likewise, don't play if you're sick. Particularly if you have food poisoning or a stomach virus that sends you racing to the crapper every ten minutes. That's when craps really turns to crap.

All good stuff here, and definitely food for thought. I'm really new so a lot of these tips are things that I'm confirming retrospectively.
There is a lot to be gained through observation prior to, and then as the session develops and progresses. Unfortunately I lack the "trigger time" to effectively apply those observations just yet. But I'm learning fast.
There are times when I'm anxious to get the dice, and to make good throws. I seem to almost ignore the betting aspect, and instead focus on my grip, the toss, where the dice land, and how they roll afterwards. I usually have good hands doing that. Definitely a product of increased concentration. But when I'm thinking about my bets, and should I press or should I spread out to other numbers, stuff like that, it ends quickly. More time playing will help with that. All the parts will come together more and more.
I will add that on the occasions when I've had a good day at work, and have been productive and got things done, I carry that positivity forward and it helps. Staying focused seems easier those days. Who knows, maybe its my biorhythms, or my zodiac influencing me, but I think we all know that feeling.
I like when the table has a good rapport, and everyone is having fun, dealers included. Those are almost always good sessions. Add some D-bags that complain about how they haven't seen the cocktail waitress for a while, or how the casino sucks, and you can feel the black cloud spread over it. Time to go for a walk then, or at least throttle back to minimal betting and watch the train wreck.
I have taken notice of a few other regulars at the craps tables, and how the dealers all know them by name. Some of those are not "DI" players, but they seem to have a good sense for when and how to bet, but they have bad days too.
My personal rules right now are to pre-define my exit points, meaning how much win or how much loss will end my session. Then stick by those limits. I am trying to keep my bets small, so I can concentrate more on my throws, and not sweat a bad hand or a PSO when it happens. Stay positive, be confident, believe that improvement is a process, and that identifying failure is a part of achieving success.

Hello Rick, all good points you have made here and I can relate. One thing that has helped me with the betting while I’m shooting is the regression move. I play a lot of 66 inside and regress after one or two hits to 44 or 22 in. Seems like the mind is settled after the regression. It’s up one unit after that or a full press at times on a repeat number.

Good luck at the tables and good hearing from you.

There is something to be said about having bets paid for. One of my favorites is a DP or DC bet and a 2 or 3 is thrown and then a 10.
